... hah.

It was time for a little defrag action last night. All was well. I close all programs, get rid of the page file, reboot, and defrag before I hit the sack.

Windows fires up and bang! Error message: "Delayed write failure" or something like it. "The data in c:\Blah\Blah" cannot be saved. The data has been lost. This is probably due to a hardware or network problem"

Now that wasnt the exact wording of the message, and it came up atleast 25 times while loading windows.

Ok, don't panic, nothing's wrong... black screen... crap, start to panic. Reboot... scandisk at XP start. Same crap. Panic more. I decide to reboot and go through it in safe mode. One problem, THE THING WONT REBOOT NOW. Black screen + no beeps + nothing... The lights are on (computer is running) but nobody's home. Did my video card get hosed too? I have no clue what the hell just happened, but it sounds like many problems went nuts at one time. help!

mine did that.. processor was loose.. or something, wahetever it was, the monitor wasny on but the tower was.. power button didnt wanna work so i had to flip switch on surge protector

Try it this way:

Power must be applied to the Power Supply.
Test the wall outlet by plugging in a simple device such as a lamp or a clock radio.
If you are using a surge protector, then try connecting the power cable directly to the wall outlet.

Make sure the Power Cable is firmly connected to the Power Supply
Some power cables can have a very rigid connector that makes it difficult to get it connected to the power supply.

Make sure that the Master Power Switch is turned on
The side marked "1" should be in the down position

Use a known good Power Cable
Plug in and turn on the power to your monitor to make sure that the monitor's power cable is working properly, then switch power cords between your monitor and computer to see if either has trouble turning on.

Power Supply must be connected to the Motherboard correctly
Make sure that the Motherboard's power is connected.

Unplug and re-plug the Motherboard's power connector
This connector should "snap" into place

Front Panel Power Button must be correctly connected
The orange/white cable coming from the front panel is connected to the motherboard
The front panel power connector must be connected to the correct pins on the motherboard (see page 27 in the CBBB02 manual)
Make sure that the connector has the writing facing the bottom of the case

Try connecting the blue/white cable (for the reset button) to the
pins for the power switch, then try to turn on the system using
the small reset button on the front panel

Clear the System CMOS

Place the CMOS jumper on pins 1 and 2 for about 5 seconds,
then return the jumper to pins 2 and 3

Make sure that the jumper is on pins 2 and 3 or the system will
not start

Remove all Devices
Disconnect the IDE and Floppy cables from the motherboard
Remove all PCI, AGP, and/or AMR cards
Remove the CPU Heatsink/Fan, CPU, Memory and continue as
listed below

Test with just CPU and Memory
Reinstall the CPU and CPU Heatsink/Fan (make sure to plug the
fan in)

Reinstall only one DIMM of memory at a time

Attempt to power the system on with just CPU and Memory
installed, and the system should give 2 slow beeps and
eight fast beeps indicating that the video adapter is not
present

Reinstall the AGP video card
If you are able to get power with just the CPU, Memory, and
Video, then install all remaining devices one at a time until
either the problem device is found, or the system is working
properly with all devices connected

Test with Alternate Components

Test with a different CPU

Test with a different set of Memory

Test with a different Power Supply

Powered off, unplugged everything unpluggable (inside and outside box). Hooked it up, boots up fine (thank god)... go safe choose last working settings for XP launch (page file back to normal now) and all is well. Ran scandisk and it repaired a TON of stuff. I have no clue what happened.

This motherboard/CPU has been through a lot of crap and I wouldnt doubt if it's showing signs of physical wear. I'll be replacing it soon once I get some cashola.

You think your Ecs k7s5a has been thru alot of "crap" ...
Hell ....
Mine has been thru the house (kitchen fire) the wiring shorted in the ceiling and zapped everything, then the firemen watered it down nicely ..... then because i was away at the time ... my stupid inlaw came over cleaned out all the pc's to his house ... totally tore mine apart ... and tossed it around (big scratch on mb ) ... I threaten him enough to get it back ... in a basket of course... VC gone ... hd scrubbed... ddr gone.... my airbrushed case all scratched to hell .... ... Well I rebuilt the darn thing expecting the worse .... (fire it up and im getting the mass beeps)
ah hell .... then i remember oh yea float the mb (so i losen up all the screws ) and Voila ..... its old familier Beeeeeeeeeeeeeep . And it fires right up ....

A few months after i get it running we get one of the wham bam electrical storms ... and whaaaaaam it gets stut down by a close hit ... (the lights didnt even flicker in the house) I thought for shure it got it this time ...
Well the next morn I hit the ole switch and Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeep

The Fire killed a brand new p 4 northwood w/ all the bells and whistles, a 1.0ghz pent 3 , and a pent 2 .

One thing Ive always liked is when it messes up real bad ... black screen ect ... turn it off /unplug it and reset the cmos , Fire it up head for the bios and reset all your settings ... (one other thing ive noticed is that it didnt like running XP very well ) i did a dual boot with it for a few months playing with XP .. even with 384mb of ram ... i would get resource errors ... That may have happened to you Octavius .

It sure is a magical if it can withstand all THAT

When switching cases a long time ago, I didnt set the mobo correctly and would short right after turning it on. It shorted a good 20-30 times before I figured out there was a screw lodged between it and the case. I was skeered, but it has been happily chugging along since then.

I sort of did the same thing when i 1st put mine together .. it beeped like hell ... the 1st 10-20 times i tried to boot it up in the case ... then i discovered it booted fine outta the case ... i have since then taken extra care when mounting the board ... I just aquired a second Ecs mb ... this one doesnt have the grounding problem at all ... and booted right up ...

(i used a plastic mount in the upper left corner ) i think this is were it grounds out.
