I have read them all and started when there were only 2 out (the thin ones).

My big beef right now is that in the last book Harry gets no respect from anyone. I mean this kid has taken on Voldmort 4 times and kicked his butt but no one gives him a break.

Malfoy still treats him like he is just another loser. Professor Snape constantly fails him in his class. Professor Umbridge wants him expelled.

Imagine you go single handedly and kick Osama Bin Laudens butt and take on him and his top leutenents and win (and you are 16 years old). Do you not think you would be looked at with a bit of awe by the teachers in your school?

Rawlings tries to address this at the end of the last book but the explaination is very weak.

But enjoy reading them. They are great entertainment.

I know, it didn't make sense to me for a while as well, but it sure makes ths story more tense.
The night I finished the 4th book I dreamt I was fighting Voldemort and it was scary.
Harry Potter books are definitely not for children!

I'm willing to bet the books are worth a read...but the first 15 minutes of the first movie was enough to put me off.  I shut off the VCR, turned on my computer and flew AH instead that night.

If you want a really good read try David Edding's "Belgariad".  5 books of really good stuff...there is a second set of five books just as good as the first.  Tolkienesque...but still very, very good.

any book that gets kids reading is a good thing...they are well worth the read (except the 5th book...it could have been under half the size it is...)

i prefer the "tale of ebenezum" and "ballad of wuntver" books...though the MYTH books are a bloody close second

My Lord, I absolutely have Harry Potter.  No wonder they were band for a short while.  The first 4/5 of the book are incredibly boring, with the last part similar in each book.  Meh ;)

Personally I enjoyed Game of Thrones, Clash of Kings and Storm of Swords (Martin I believe is the author) far better than any other fantasy books I have read. I found the reading much more interesting than LOTR (which is still very good IMO), I highly recommend them for adults.

The Harry Potter books were a fun read as well.

all very good reads, now if he'd just stop doing book signings and finish 'feast for crows' (due in april I believe).

the WOT was also very good, but Martin is a better writer.

You don't have an opinion on them unless you've read the books.

The books are great, and I wish I could kick Prof. Umbridge, why call her Prof? I wouldn't, kick her prettythang!

-Spoiler for those who havn't read the book..kind of.. hehe-

The films were tedious and stereotypical to me - I knew what was coming long before it appeared.

Rowlings likes to lecture us on small morals. I've been there, seen that and don't need lecturing to. Maybe that's why I didn't enjoy the first  book (haven't read any others) that much, even though she's an incredible talented writer who gets her point across delicately and nicely.

Wow....David Eddings....havent read him in years.  I have most of those books....The Belgariad, The Mallorean and The Elenium.  You ever read Raymond Feist or George RR Martin?
