Plane variants coming!
« on: December 03, 1999, 04:39:00 AM »
Ok, news said that after F4U and B-26 Marauder HTC is going to add some new features and then variants of planes we already have.

This could mean that first time EVER in flight sim history we could see Fw 190F and/or Fw 190G. F was ground attack variant and G was long range fighterbomber.

They are externally virtually identical with Fw 190A, only the outer wing postition guns were removed.

F would be a very good ground attack plane indeed, just look at the possible loadouts that were used during WW II:

- 1 X 250 kg
- 1 X 500 kg
- 1 X 1000 kg
- 3 X 250 kg
- 1 X 250 kg + 4 X 50 kg
- 1 X 500 kg + 4 X 50 kg
- 4 X 50 kg + 4 X 50 kg
- 12 X Panzerblitz rockets (modified R4M)

And many more!

Can someone post possible variants from other planes we could have with current planeset?

Well.. just off the top of my head.

You could do a P-51B if you don't mind ignoring the different art, but I would rather wait.

F4u-4 (my pick) or F4U-1A, from the F4U-1D

With the Fw190A8, you could do any of the early A series, but the A4 would probably suffice, and of course you mentioned the F and G series.

Mc.202  from the Mc.205

About 30 different variants of the Me109, I'll let Fishu or Ik go into all of those.

N1K1 from the N1K2, but you probably wouldn't notice alot of difference. Of course then Pyro could do a N1K3 or K5, which was planned as a hi alt version of the George for B-29 hunting, but only a handful(2?) were produced. Nahhhhh.....

Spitfires are another plane were you could do a bunch of variants, but probably the Spit I, V, XIV are the most important we don't have.

La7 could be done from the La5, which I would love to see.

Anyone have anymore ?

Oh and you could do an early B-17 version but what would be the purpose at this point?

I guess my two favorites would be the La7 or the F4U-4.

The F/G had more armor of course than the standard A-8.

Didn't Spitfire have something like 70 different variants? I guess they didn't all have their own Mk. though. Also prolly not all of them were used/developed during the war. It's just something I recall reading some time ago when <cough> accidentally looking at the 'Allied' section in the book shop.

<edit>
As a side note, does anyone know which version of IX we have? AW/CK/WB/AH all label it as a Spitfire Mk.IX and leave out which altitude version it is, which does make quite a difference.

Time to beg new planes for LW from Mr. Goering.. err.. HTC.

Why not to add bit more nose- and wing lenght for 190, that would be ideal Ta152 or 190D, to meet the requirements of modern battle skies.. (read; being fast)
(nahhh... that would be too rude against P-51)

To meet modern battle skies requirements in Me109 production, I would ask technicians to finish that K serie or G14 quickly before we have Spitfrie XIVs flying all over.
Wouldn't mind bad either if they would begun production of past days F serie and early G serie (planes like G2 or G6).

Ps. B-17.. B-26.. Lancaster.. hmm, lacks the LW iron :I

How about a Ta154 or He219? That should be a nice LW counter to the American Bombing Iron!

(I'll beat you all to it; both were night fighters, and only the He219 reached production status)

So, let's take one plane, 190 for example.

Now, how much length can be added to a plane nose/fuselage, to be still considered a variant ?

Fishu.
I would think that the G14 is not as good as the G10 and that the K4 would be mostly identical.
I guess that the plane would be single engine.  I would say Spit 14 then...
Then we could have something to combat all the Spit 9s with!

Let me see, with no or very minimal artwork changes I guess you could have...

P-51D = P-51K

Fw190A8 = Fw190F/G or A5+ (A4 and earlier has shorter nose(15cm) and tail section I believe?)

Spitfire MkIX  = MkVIII   Or high and mid alt Merlins, I think all low alt ones had the cut wings? Oh, and add the 4x20mm Hispano armament.

Bf109G-10 = K-(1)4 (Muahahaha! DB605L please  )

Next thing you know you'll be asking for a B-29 with an F-84 on each wingtip!

My only thought is that people are wishing for UBER Planes so they can be on top.  As this develops, with the ground strat to be introduced, we will need all manner of planes. But, wishing for the never ending UBER plane, we shall soon be asking for F15's and SU27s

Ooooooh!!!!  Mk XIV Spitfire.  That might convince me to pay 29.95 per month.

Think that would convince me NOT to pay 29.95 a month.  Hell, I'd rather see the Uber-Goober modeled first.
