So i've been on this old chitty computer for 2 years the puter being possibly 5 years old when i got it..
Pentium 3 500Mhz
3 random sticks of System ram, totalling 224MB
Random Mobo
Old 19 gig Maxtor HDD
Originally Voodoo3, upgraded to a GeForce FX 5200 because. well.. walmart had it for 80$
First i just wanted to upgrade one thing.. Well some kind soul on IRC (Newnet, for those curious few) pointed out that this old slot based mobo wouldnt support a newer processor! So i found a mobo.. Then i was informed i needed a bigger power supply.. Thus i found a new case/power supply bundle. Yay.
After that, i also decided upon newer RAM, or at least better, to compliment such an upgrade. Well, the soundcard was kinda yucky so i got a new one of those too. Harddrive was tiny and old, so i figured what the hell, i'll splurge. Getting a new HDD too.
New system specs:
B452-1105 Just4PC Mid Tower Case w/ 425 Watt Power Supply
THD-1200A2 P Seagate 120GB / 7200 / 8MB / 9.3 / ATA-100 EIDE Hard Drive
CP2-P4-2800BNC Intel Pentium 4 2.8GHz / 512K Cache / 533MHz FSB/ Socket 478 / Processor
2x CORSAIR 512MB PC3200 VALUE SELECT. VS512MB400 DDR RAM - OEM
Asus Motherboard for Intel P4 Processors Model P4PE-X Retail
Creative Labs Sound Blaster® Audigy™ LS PCI Sound Card, Model SB0312 - Retail
All off of newegg.com and tigerdirect, totalling exactly, with shipping, $744.94
So a simple upgrade became a money-consuming new computer!
Now before you "help" me, i know it isnt the best of the best, but it's still a pretty high end system, and really all that i can afford, so don't tell me about how this needs to be better or, this can be different.. don't..
