MRPLUTO here, but I couldn't log in as me, so I created a new account and now I can't log in as MRPLUTO anymore.  But so what?

This is what happened:

In tonight's Snapshot I flew a FW-190A-5 intercepting heavy Typhoons.  I broke through the Spit escort and found the formation of Typhoons below and ahead of me.  I cut my engine and diving at a TAS (true airspeed) of about 410mph picked out a target.  I attacked from about his 11:30 high diving at a 45-55 degree angle, and fired a quick burst at a distance of about 200 yds, breaking off at 70-100 yds above & behind him.  On my end I never came close to hitting him.  I saw a bunch of hit sprites on his right wing root, and after I passed him he blew up.

Then on channel one, my target, jaxxo, calls me a stupid fun-spoiling ramming dweeb or something like that and logged off in a huff.

So, is it possible that in a high speed, head-on pass it might appear to him I collided, while on my end it looked like a perfectly good firing pass?

P.S.  I've made many attacks like this against bombers and never had anyone accuse me of hitting them.  Every now and then I do collide with a buff,  but it's clear to me that is what has happened and I always take damage.

Yes, lag induced "ramming" is entirely possible.  Then again, it's easier on your ego to find fault in others when your own failure(s) is what got you killed in the first place.  but, FWIW....

Ya probably hadn't ought to bring up what "some" would describe as a personal attack in an open forum.

I was with Jaxxo and observed most of it, I watched you come in on a high and fast 12oc attack , I changed views and noticed Jaxxo go Boom, and saw you extending out, looked like a good pass, gk

He may have seen a ram on his FE,
after flying 50 miles you can understand the frustration of such a quick death, IMO his comments on 100 were brief and pretty tame.  Blow it off

But I'll have to say True!   :D

if you rammed him on his FE then it's his fault, he saw you coming and should have stepped out of the way.

Your mistake was not squelching channel 1. you are not a newbie, you should know better...

Bozon--

I'm MRPLUTO, I've been around for ages--I just had a problem logging in as me, so I made another temporary account so I could post until I figured out how to solve my problem.

Often I do squelch chan 1, but hadn't seen a reason to, so I hadn't bothered.

I'm not sure he saw me coming...he never tried evading.

*******

Cooley--

Yeah, I can imagine he was very pissed at wasting all that time to just get shot down without a fight.  That's the breaks.  The lesson to be learned is to pay more attention; even the slightest evasive manuver and I probably would have missed.

I should make it clear that I'm not angry at jaxxo for the comments he made; I'm just trying to figure out what happened.

I hope jaxxo will feel a little better about the whole thing knowing that I had no intention of ramming him.  I consider the emotional side of the issue to be over.  Only the technical side remains.

P.S.   By the way, my connection at the time was fine.

MrPluto doesnt play that way. He takes his flying role seriously. Accusing him of setting up to ram is silly.

I have made vertical attacks on buffs and pulled off by punching past the nose of the plane. Similar accusations were made. Lag made it appear to him that I rammed while on my front end I cleared the formation. He saw a ram and took damage, I didn't and lived.

I rammed him, and damned proud of it!

Surely if you purposly attempt to RAM someone you end up seeing this on your FE and as a result you end up snuffing it.

I do not understand how you could do this on purpose and survive.

Try to pass by REAL close but not hit on your FE and it will most likely be a ram on his FE.  I have had it done to me hundreds of times - scissoring hard.  Since I "lose" about 10 to 1 on close encounters - it is obviously not a skill I possess.

Me either.

Seems to me guns and/or cannons would be much more effective.

I've been searching my brain cells, and I remember once I made a very close head-on pass at the #3 buff in a formation.  I didn't think I got any hits with my 30mm as I flashed pass at 20-30 yds.  But sometimes one can get hits close up that aren't seen, so when he exploded after I passed I thought I'd shot him down.  Now I'm thinking maybe it was a ram from the view of his #3 plane, something the buff pilot probably would not have noticed.

From my end it still looked like a very close, but missed, firing pass.

The difference in these cases however is:  When I shot down jaxxo I was at least 70 yds away, at least twice as far away as I was from the buff.

Anytime it has looked to me like I have collided with someone I received major damage.

This reminds me of the end scene in star wars new hope where the guy (porkins) doesn't break formation even though he has the darth vader (all too easy) chewing him and his buddies for breakfast..

If you see someone attacking you and your formation, break formation and evade...

The shot you described if he pulled 2-3 g turn; would have been very tough for you to hit him at that forward angle and approach rate with mg 151's, let alone the FF's....

But straight and level  ?  Darwin award anyone...

I didn't see the incident in question. But that's irrelavent.

But I can vouch for Mr. Pluto's character, even though I don't know him, and undoubtly he is a fun-spoiling ramming dweeb.

What ever he says in his defence unless it's a full admission of quilty is nothing more than a bald face school yard lie.
