Why?

I think things are only going to get worse.

I do not think in 10 years or even 20 the world is going to end or anything stupid.

I do think all the things I see now that disgust me are just going to get worse.

 I think we sue over really stupid things now and it just going to get worse. I do not think we will see tort reform laws. Too many lawyers stand to lose much.

I think Politics is just going to get dirtier and more partisan. I can not think of very many politicians I can stand or would even want to shake hands with.  It blows my mind the choices we are forced to make on politicians. There most be some kind of secret career path for Pimps, used car salesmen and scummy lawyers? Do they get some kind of secret mail that says “to sleazy for your current job, try politics?”

I think Hillary is going to run and I really think it will be a bad thing if she wins. My reasons for this are 1: I think she is far too far to the left and will **** things up. I do not want national healthcare ETC. 2: You think politics are partisan now? I think Hillary more the GWB will divide this country. I did not despise Clinton, I have posted before I did not think he was horrible as a president though I do not respect him personally. But he was popular. Maybe I just was not paying attention, but I do not remember things being so partisan and dirty when he was in office. I despise her, and not in a wholly reasonable way. I know many people who feel as I do. Something about her really bothers me. I also do not respect her in the least.

 I think in my life time, I will see most guns taken from the people of this country. Even though, more guns mean less crime. I think in my life time you will see most of the public land you can drive a 4 wheeler on closed. Even though it’s public land and responsible wheelers clean up after them selves and do not hurt anything.

I think we will see more terror attacks in the states. If I was a terrorist I would use the ease you can cross the Mexican border to get bombs into this country or WMD’s Maybe then we will close our borders and take illegal immigration seriously. I really doubt it though.

I do not feel any of our politicians really care about us or really represent us anymore. I think it will just get worse.

Oh, I dunno. Electing Hillary may dramatically reduce any over population problems we have in the US. Of course most of those leaving will probably take their money with them so maybe you're right after all.

I think that our representatives no longer represent the people.

Corporate avarice and greed is the problem.

Until we have campaign finance reform and real term limits, we the people will continue to be less important to our elected representatives than the corporations that finance their ascent.

I think that the tone and level of attack by the opposition went ballistic during Clinton's Presidency.  A good measure of the effectiveness is the long list of things people still believe are true about the man.

Foster's death
Travelgate
Whitewater
The list of "mysterious deaths"
Filegate

and on and on

The tone continues, and has become almost mainstream.


Regarding your original question though, I felt much as you do back in the 60's and 70's. There was no way we were going to survive untill 2000 let alone get better. Nuclear war seemed inevitable. I'm much more optimistic now.

My optimism stems from the changes I've seen over the years.

When I was a teen, there was more inequality, more pollution, a greater chance for a global conflict, less opportunity for women, etc. etc.

It is hard to describe how bleak things looked in the 70's. Disco was born for God's sake! The Apocalypse must be right around the corner!
