When it hit my area, it was downgraded to a Cat 5, then a Tropical Storm as it left the area.

This was bay side of the yard, picture was taken standing on the porch.

Taken from the road next to the house facing the pier. The planks of the pier are roughly a foot below the water, normally they are about 4 to 5 feet above the surface of the bay. The pier looks normal still, until you get out at the end and all of the planks are gone.

This is the parkway, the angle of the shot is from the front door facing parallel with the coast (the coast is perpindicular to the angle of the first shot).

These two shots were taken around noon (for the brighter one) and sun down (for the darker one). That pier is in an inlet a couple blocks away from the shots above. The second picture has an Army National Guard Hummer treading through the water behind the car. At the peak of the storm, the water was halfway up the windows of the car.

**Pictures are hosted on Geocities, so if a lot of people view them, you will see Red Xs because the bandwidth limit has been reached.

Interesting pictures. Reminds me of some of the storm photos after we've had hurricanes pass through. Why didn't you evacuate before it hit? Looks like you were pretty much stuck there for the duration.

My sister lives in DC and sent some photos from the pier section of Maryland. Those were freaky. Big city streets under a foot or so of water. Kind of reminded me of the canal systems of Venice.

I did leave, those pictures were taken Friday morning around 8AM... several hours after the worst part of the storm had passed.

I heard that North Beach in Calvert County (A 30minute drive from where I am) was completely under water.

I went to the harbor later that day to check on the boat, its awkward to be walking on a pier that you can't see because its under three feet of water... and the boat is floating right next to you, when its normally a couple feet below you.

Didn't have power for three days, let me tell you, there is nothing more fun than scratching yourself and staring a blank TV.

Cat 1, I guess, the lowest one it can be before its a tropical storm. Shows you how often we get hurricanes up here.

Exceeded the bandwidth limit already, takes an hour for Geotoejamies to reset it.

All the houses, mine included, in my immediate area made it out for the most part (some lost large portions of their concrete foundation), but going to places where the land was just slightly lower was a bit sobering. Several houses were literally taken off their foundation with large fractures running up their sides, looked like an earthquake went through the area.

Most of the local businesses that make their money off of being on the water and ease of access for boaters or the water taxi (basically hops from place to place taking people with the only cost being whatever you wish to tip) are gone or out of business for an extended period of time. Those places lost a lot, everything was flooded for them, so all of their cooking equipment was damaged and all waterfront outdoors seating no longer exists and is probably somewhere washed up on shore.

People around the Chesapeake Bay had a lot of damage, mostly from the tidal surge of the Bay. The surge was between 6 and 7 feet. This, along with the wind, ripped out anything not embedded in concrete. The normal high tide to low tide is about 1 foot. My small town, is a mess, and it is very north. It's going to be a couple of years before everything is back to normal. Anyone buying a used car should check for water damage. But, after living in Illinois for part of my life, I will take a hurricane over a tornado any day. I can see a hurricane coming, I have the choice to run, I also have the choice not to build so close to the shoreline, or on barrier islands. With a tornado you are .....ed!
