TOD: Alt Monkeys, AI Question
« on: September 26, 2003, 09:42:38 AM »
Hey all,

Looking forward to coming back to AH when AH2 and TOD arrive.

After reading the http://www.wargamer.com interview ref TOD I started thinking about mission implementation and requirements for mission completion.

According to the interview, the first round of TOD will be centered around the bombing campaign.  Curious to know if the mission will set out a historically accurate altitude at which the bombers must fly?  I fear seeing B-17s teetering on the brink of flight envelope departure in low earth orbit just to make it to the target site, crossing their fingers and dropping their payload.

If there are not enough players to man the bombers will the AI have flights of their own or will each player be given more bombers in their flight to make up the difference?

If AI bombers are solo will they follow the player bombers or maintain a predetermined alt/flightpath?

Of course this also applies to escorts and interceptors however the bombers will dictate the location of those.

I would think with the overhaul of the FM, they would correct the engines on some planes too. Truth be told you would have to have the mixture almost to cut off and the props pitched to about feather, but you still wouldnt get the B17s to 32, 45K like we have now....
It needs to be fixed. I myself have takning the B17 in the game up to 45K, and with our GS around 450 knots the only thing that could come get us was the 163s. However when we got to the DZ, we were way off, not becuse we cant bomb, but due to our alt. At 27K I can put a bomb in a pickle barrle. AH really needs to fix this.
