heya there.

I'm currently reading (well, trying to ;)) the german pilot manual from the Fw190A5/A6. Of course, it is in GERMAN, and I have no idea on what do some things mean.


At one place it says:

"Rollstrecke:                     395m"


and then

"Startstrecke bis
H= 20m (ohne wind):        600m"


WTF does that mean?...


BTW this is yet another source which says the Fw190A5 and A6 topped 560km/h (almost 350mph) at sea level...in this forum there've been several charts portraying the FW seal and giving that same top speed. This manual carries the RLM seal...but well, that's off topic anyway. I'm looking for a translation, nothing else :)

My German's not what it once was... but I recognise a bit of it. Something about... typhoons and... backward firing?

depending on the context it's being used in it's probably "Takeoff/Liftoff distance is 395m"

= Takeoff distance to reach a height of 20m (without wind) is 600m

could also be Distance to roll = 395

Isn't it literally translated to mean "Roll Stretch"? To me that would imply take off distance as well.

It means tha plane required 395m roll for landing and 600m distance for takeoff, which distance also includes the space required to climb to 20 m altitude (trees/buildings next to the runway!). I am not sure wheter the descent is included in the 395m landing distance though...

Also, keep in mind that these values usually refer to "normally braked" aircraft on the landing run, and takeoff  on Kampleistung ( 30 min power limit ), which is a considerably lower power than full power. (IIRC ~1450 HP vs. 1800/2100HP on FW 190A).
