FA set the tone for FAII, I Hated FA.  I tried it a few times, went to the newbie arena and saw more hacking than a Warz convention.  Finally made enough points to hit main arenas and went to realistic, but after being Blown out of the sky by my 3rd mach 3 fighter (realistic my #*$#) turning 180 degrees in 3 seconds I decided it wasnt for me and went back to WB's.

The first post started with a reference to FA2 and most if not all replys were about FA1.5. There is a difference between the two flavours of Fighter Ace. If you dislike the "game", fine. AH is not everybodies cup of tea either. And there are some good sticks in FA, whether anyone thinks they measure up to the AW,WB,AH standards or not.Time will tell if the "game" wienies can hack it against you big leaguers <g>

I'd like to reply to Dima, and say that AH is a more realistic Sim than FA, simply flying the Aeroplane is a learning expierence where as in FA you crank it up and pull back. Fighting in AH is unlike anything that FA, E-management and the simple acknowledgement that gravity exists is a big departure from the VR1 product. The nuances of AH seem to be so many that each flight and fight is unique (to me) and that is why I enjoy AH so much at this time. FA2 has added tanks and trains etc, I understand that AH will also. All I can say is if the current work is continued as it has, that Aces High will blow away FA in the graphics and game play depts.

I cant let the slams against the FA community go completly by the board tho.

Cant say for sure what you mean by "punk ass" but you are right that alot of them are new to any type of online game much less sims, alot are young. Give them time to grow up and learn.
To tell the truth tho in AH I see alot of the same type of behaviour and flying. ie, base hugging, massive lop sided numbers on teams, continually hammering the newbie that shows up asking for help as he is shot down 8 times in a row. Maybe this is standard fare in all Sims.?
Swim with the sharks, maybe, but only if I can keep my eyes and mind open as I take a bite and fly home.

Shameless chest thumping warning.

 I wouldnt write off the gamers to quick. I was an aca dweeb in WB. And was considered just another easymode player. Well, within a couple of days of starting AH I was in the top ten (pre buffing requirement). Ive taken on as many as 4 cons by myself. Killed them all and flew home. I see my pal mitsu,s (ranked #1) name pop up in my Killed by TT messages from time to time. I feel like i can hold my own with just about anybody in AH.

 We dont have any way of knowing what a guy played before. But I have a hunch Ive had my butt wacked more than once by a FA player.

Comparing FA2 to AH is like comparing Apples to Oranges. But everyone has to start somewhere. Todays targets are Tomorrows greatest threats.

There are more FA folks in AH then you might think. (Devildogs, Flying Elvises to name a few). Some are cannon fodder (yours truely) and some are to be feared. The point being every sim has it's place. Consider FA a stepping stone to the more advanced sims (flight model wise). I personally love the challenge the learning curve is steep but well rewarding.

Well said JimBear and Toffer.. I am a product of FA and there will be alot more coming as soon as they phase out FA 1.5. Most of the pilots in 1.5 dont like FA 2.0 due to lag and serious frame rate problems as well as the FM. You will be seeing some very good sticks coming into this game.

Granted they will need some time to become familiar with the different rides in here, but there SA and tactics are all ready ingrained. As for myself, I still suck, but God Help ya if I'm on your six. I do live for the stall fight...

Some one asked "what is this a simulation of?" It is a simulation of ACM using planes from the late WWII era. Nothing else. The Flight Models are not complete, there is more strategy and other vehicles comming, this is not a completed sim.
I have never flown FA online. I downloaded it, started it, flew it for 5 min and deleted it. It is not for me. That is not to say that it shouldn't be for anyone. I just don't care for it. I look for immersiveness and a feeling of  "flying through airspace" that only this sim has been able to approach in my opinion. I have heard that Falcon 4 is the best flight model. May be, havn't flown it mainly because I like prop planes. I flew the original Falcon for almost a year straight because at that time I felt it had a most realistic FM and decided I needed to try late model jets.

Dima, this game, simulation, or whatever you want to call it isn't for everyone, but I feel if you are looking for a life like experience flying air combat maneuvers and wanting to shoot someone down, this is the place to be.

I cut my teeth in FA. Got my butt kicked by a ton of people, then learned to use padlock (yes the APG-63 variety padlock..LOL!) Then came to a great game (so far) like this with no pad...hehe.  I have really gotten used to flying without. Feels really weird flying games that have it now.

I can't wait til they get most of the features enabled in this game. I will be flying mucho!!!

Of course, I am drooling for B-17 II to be released. Can't wait to see how many times I have to `ditch' or bail in that one, just cuz I oversped the prob, left the supercharger on below 12, etc.

I flew realistic in FA. What a silly spin model...hehe. I just like flying somewhere that has cockpit views only, no glass cockpits. Hell, If you fly a game with glass cockpits, you can throw most of those tactics we read about from shaw (Gunfights <BG>, or all the aces, mostly out the window. Ever tried rolling scissors in a game with glass cockpits? Whats the point if the enemy doesn't have a nose on his plane you can disappear under.

Well, anyway, Dima, this sim is much tougher. But when you get the hang of it, it is very rewarding. Hope to see you in the AH skies soon!

 Ok. I loaded up FAII to see what the hoopla was all about. After reading the articles on the DogFighter web site and alot of the criticism on the sim here, at AGW and on some AW boards I find  that ......
   .....most of it is warranted.

 But this post is not to praise nor roast FA II. Nope. FA II is a good idea and plan wrapped around a substandard and arcadish sim. Has some nice features that some sims have not done. Maybe one day the goals and ideas will be rewarded with a good program that will take advantage of them. Anyway. This post is a segway to another topic brought up and that topic was "icons".

 Last night some way or somehow I lost ALL icons on all aircraft. Friend and FOE.  Yes indeed. It is a most interesting experience to say the least.
 It is far easier to get jumped (and if the others lost them too) it is FAR easier to be the jumpee. Oddly my kills per flight rose significantly and I attibute that to having to having to constantly swivel my head keeping my eyes open for the enemy which actually allowed me to spot them sooner. No more neon ICONS hollering here I am and for me to chase.
 I also had to get REAL close before firing.
 Don't want to kill friendlies after all  
 And closer of course means maneuvring better and being able to get more punch with each pull of the trigger.
 And it's easy to lose a bogy in a turn fight too. Lose em and your dead - quite often.
 But the key was each "country" had thier own planes. So if I spotted an F4U and I was ina KI-61 I *knew* he was a bad guy.
 
 I'm *ALL* for removing icons now. AH graphics are far superior to FA II and if I was able to id a con at 800 yds with some ehavy duty squinting I should be able to ID them at the same range without buggin my eyes out in Aces High.

Ok Dima, I agree with Jimbear on this one, I have flown FA online and didn't even look at FA2 that aside, AH WB are great piece's of SIM work IMHO, but remember AH IS BETA and still early in it too, what you may think a short fall right now is not the final product so give it some time yet, It is free !! so I think everyone can afford some time,

I also think your Question was a good one, you don't have the back ground on AH or WB that most of the others do, other wise you would not have asked the Question. No Worries Mate, you can wing up with me any time an I will help out as best I can.

     NOW ! I normally don't flame people but... I have read about enough Crap from some of you guy's who think your god's gift to online flight sims you have an opinion thats all so does anyone else, but to insult and call down some one you do not know is going to far!! How did you know if the guy was enemy. No matter how close you are you cant tell without an Icon. looked at radar?????

 Pongo, in the Territorial Combat arena that I flew in the aircraft are seperated by country. So if you fly an F4U you will NOT run inot an enemy flown F4U. And inside of 700-900 yards or so you can easily tell the blue colouring of the plane and at about 500- 600 you can tell it is an F4U. And of course
the radar coloured pip confirms they are enemy if you have the radar activated.

OKAY!  all my life I have heard this apples versus oranges thing!  What did the apples do to piss off the oranges?  Are oranges that much different from apples?  Why do apples think they are similar to oranges? Conversely, Oranges and apples are as alike as they are different!  How does the statement "comparing apples to oranges" work?  Whats the point???

I come from the advanced realistic arena of Fighter Ace and FA2.  This is where the Musketeer's hung out with the MercSheep, Devil Dogs, Howling Banshees, WarMachines,
and TS squads.  We had a great time fighting other squads with "no tags".  Now of course none of us would ever match the fliers of WarBirds or AirWarrior<G>, we had a great time just the same.  Still the arena had the same rules and physics for everyone.  So what you could do with your plane was relative.  The dog fighting was as good as I have seen anywhere else.  Anyone who knows those squads will tell you we had great fliers who ate, slept, and watermelon aviation and airplanes<G>.  Sometimes it's not the flightsim or game, but the "people" who make it work...I hope Aces High will keep this attribute.  Salute Duke!  Goodnight StingDoctor where ever you are!
