No IOU for Iraq reconstruction?
« on: October 01, 2003, 10:56:57 AM »
"The Bush administration strongly opposes making Iraqis pay back part of the $87 billion package. But a handful of Senate Republicans have joined Democrats in urging that the United States count at least part of the $20.3 billion Bush is seeking for Iraqi reconstruction as loans or loan guarantees."

I thought Iraqi oil revenues were supposed to pay for this.  Guess it's gonna be the American taxpayers.

Must be the hangover from the "no war for oil" idiocy. They probably don't want to disturb those guys between their meds. ;)
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!

Lars,

There are some here who seem to think that Iraqi oil is going to pay for this war.   Just thought they might be interested in the latest plan.   :)

Heard that we are not forcing new debt on the iraqi government.

Does that mean they will pay off the french and german loans with oil revenues but owe us nothing?

Sounds messed up to me.

"Sounds messed up to me."

Thats what you get when you mix up Germany and France. Read your history. Same hog, different perfume.
