People that need a new vid card for ah2 and dont want to spend alot of money; go get this:

ATI RADEON 9600 256MB DDR AGP 8X TV OUT / DVI
 Add Software Kit: No
Expedite Shipping: Ship in next 24 working hours (+$3.95)
Upgrade to Retail Box: NO    118.85

with express shipping it was 150. Not bad for a vid card that will run every new game out there. You can find it for a price like this on pricewatch.com.

Ive been told that the 256mb version has slower memory than the 128mb version, and therefore is abit slower and more expensive. It is however more "futureproof" for games that will come in the future that may take advantage of the extra memory.

What i just wrote is quite possibly bs but its what ive been told.

by the time games use anywhere near 256mb of vram you'll probably want to have something more then an obsolete 9600 at that time.

if you can find a 128 verson for cheaper that'd be the way to go.

dunno prices well, since i live in canada.

my 2, er, 3 can. cents

Yep, I'd say the 128mb version is better. It has higher clocked memorys and I have doubts weather the same GPU can use that extra 128mb efficient enough.

The only Radeon 9600 you'll get for 80 bucks is the 64M version.  The 9600 Pro 128 runs about 200 retail.  On the net you might find it for about 170.

You didn't get the 9600 Pro, just the 9600.  Not too much difference...Pro's clock speed is higher...a few other things.  The cheapest I've seen the Pro is 155 on pricewatch, and that's the 128M version.

Got a Gigabyte 9600 128MB for $175 (Australian dollars that is, about $95 for you Yanks).  Computer bits are expensive in my part of the world.  :(

Edit that was with retail box and software bundle though...

I can Buy an Nvidia 5200 FX with the faster 128 for $66 USD:

Nvidia 5200 FX @ newegg

Better Drivers, greater userbase, No bundled crap.

It's not a decent card unless it's Nvidia.
