some irony in the ESPN/Rush thingy

A pretty strong bit of irony on the ESPN/RUSH thing....
I have seen this thing compared to the Dixie Chicks debacle so it got me to thinking about it in those terms. Some things that really stands out to me are these. The Dixie Chicks critisized Bush in another country other than the USA, fine. But in doing so they must also belittle the man by saying "I'm embarassed that he's from Texas" - a tactic the left seems to love, belittling the person they are critisizing. Rush critisized McNabb by saying he wasn't a good QB. Nothing personal about that. Rush also critisized the NFL's "afermative action" like wish of wanting to promote black QB's. Nothing personal or wrong about that either. Then the left piles in on Limbaugh calling him racist, fat, you name it they've invented plenty of bigoted cliche's about him over the past 10 years. Again the left uses personal belittlefication (i create my own vocabulary  ) against somebody they are critisizing.

Another interesting thing that popped into my mind. The reaction of political "leaders". When Bush was asked what he thought about the Dixie Chick's comments he said they had the right to say that. I hear Kerry and Wes Clark yesterday calling for ESPN to fire Rush. Good to know how those 2 democrats feel about our 1st amendment. Neither of those 2 will get my vote to be sure.......

It's not a "left" only thing about the personal attacks. Just look on this very own BBS. Unless of course you think most here are leftist ;)

Did she mean the band?
Did she mean everyone on the tour?
Did she mean all Texans?
Did she mean all Americans?

Natalie has the right to say what she wants.  If she doesn't want to make an bellybutton out of herself and piss off a lot of people, she should be more specific when she gets on stage and decides to play politician.

I guarantee that if Natalie has said that while an employee of ESPN, she would have been fired too.

 I think you're missing the point of the thread.  I'm not so concerned to what she said as to the reaction of the politicals in this and the ESPN/Rush thing.

He said Mcnabb was overhyped by the media because he is black. If you were mcnabb, you might take that personal.

I guess we've reached such a level of PC in this country that we can't speak the truth anymore.

African americans faced more racism in this country than just about any other race. When they succeed at something, it's cause for celebration. They've had to traverse a tougher road than a person from another race doing the same task.

It's like saying Jake Plummer is overhyped because he is a big, strong armed white guy.

Here is another quote from rush:

 "There is a little hope invested in McNabb, and he got a lot of credit for the performance of this team that he didn't deserve. The defense carried this team."

I can think of alot of QB's that could fall under that, white and black. Like superbowl MVP Tom Brady.
