Toad..head over to the H2H arenas.  It is more fun than watching paint dry.

That's what I've been doing.

Big Isles is, without question and by a far margin, the worst map in the rotation.  With very few exceptions (one, I think), I have been unable to find anything like a balanced fight for the past week.  The fly-for-multiple-sectors-to-find-a-fight-only-to-get-there-and-either-find-no-fight-or-get-ganged thing is, in my opinion, no fun.  It's especially entertaining when every field within a sector-and-a-half of a red bar has 25% fuel.

I have to agree that this map is really straining the bounds of sanity and fun. It was suggested LONG AGO by a very insightful individual (name withheld - Lazs - oops) that all these Vehicle Bases stranded out on these islands really need to be turned into Airfields.

This type of tweaking was done immediately by NoBaddy to Trinity and it proved to be very successful. For the life of me, I cannot undestand why this tweaking has not been implemented on Big Isles yet. Big Isles has great potential and it must be saved.

LoneStarBuckeye ... Are you suggesting that the dweebish porking of fuel has something to do with the map ? I hope not.

Is that like Stalingrad?  Oh wait we have numbers for areas forgot that.  And yet I still fly for a damn chess piece.

No, of course not. :)  It just seems more painful to me on this map, because the secondary fields are SO much farther from the "fight."

I dislike Big Isles as well and I've heard nothin but complaints about it....Fester's map rocks though....had a GREAT time today....you have regular furballs....king of the hill w  A21 being at 10k and numerous GV battles becouse of all the spawn points (wich really dont effect the air fields all that much)  The best thing I like is the V bases actualy have towns so you cant sneak an M3 in de ACK and grab an easy capture.

35 miles is about the maximum distance between any 2 fields so I can find a fight in 18 miles flight, read the map, think for a second, then get where you want to be.

As for you boozer...OK fine I'm a liar....i've never had a changing battle field that required four sectors to travel to a fight in big isles....NOR have I ever had the situation were every Air Base within appoz 50 miles of the only NME flying happend to have bad fuel or were being vuchled....and if they were being vulched I never upped at another airfield just to find them gone by the time I got there....None of this ever happens in this game...to anyone at all....I realize now that reading the map is all that's needed to find a fight in this map....it matters not that the bases are porked or there are only V bases near by....or that the CV just got sunk...because as i described above....THAT NEVER HAPPENS IN AH AT ALL.....

SO Boozer's advice to all you newbies like me....AH is ALLWAYS the perfect Utopia for Air Combat.....you will ALLWAYS have a fight within 35 miles....your air fields will NEVER be porked....and even at 3AM there is gonna be a great fight real close that requires no effort of flight to get to

Slap...

Can't say for sure...but, my guess is that anything to do with maps is currently a low priority (seeing as we have entered the 4th quarter and all).

Booz...

Like the initial release of Trinity, all the fields are within 35 miles. However, the distances between many airfields is 50 miles or more. One of the things I dislike about it is the fact that none of the gv fields have gv spawns coming to them. This means that ALL of the possible gv fights have planes involved. This also means that to capture gv fields requires the use of planes...for me...this limits the variety of options available on the map. Believe it or not (shut my mouth and beat me with and old shoe...), I have to agree with Toad on this one. If about 1/2 the gv fields were changed to airfields, the game play on the map would greatly improve.

Gunslinger, its a shame your comment was taken and artistically interpreted to make you look like [insert bbs slang for unskilled]. I totally agree that the distances involved on big isles are quite high and that after flying sometimes 4 sectors you just fight what you find. Perhaps the map could be better with a bit of tweeking. I do wonder wth is up with the gv bases on an island with no air field and no spawn points...perhaps its a late war Rabaul. Or an early war Wake...wait, they both had airfields...last night i flew verrry far, fought [briefly], flew very far, fought [briefly], then landed my 51 with very little fuel. On this map I find it better to fly a long range ride due to the porkage of front line bases. Makes pizza a little more welcome. Ah well, I hate it but there I am flying my 51 a looong way! Go figure

You always could do that - on any map. Every V-base has a few strat targets (the only important one being the barracks, should you wish to use this field to supply troops). All you had to do was to kill the two acks, and roll in your M3 and empty the troops for capture. You don't even have to take down the VH. So if the owners of the field are asleep at the wheel, you can capture a V-base single-handedly in an M3 (if you're a good shot). And after you've done that, sit back and enjoy the text buffer whines - waah-waah-waah milkrunning undefended bases waah-waah-waah... :lol

NoBaddy .. wasn't it you, the author, that made the appropriate changes to Trinity?

If so, then why can't the author(s) of Big Isles make the appropriate changes. That way there is no involvement on HTCs' part, except to make the map available once the changes are made.

The point that GunSlinger was trying to make, is that this style of milk-running VH bases is no longer an option on Fester's map.

Slap...

Yes. To insure continuity, changes have to be made to the files that HTC has. HTC doesn't just put up what is sent to them. Therefore, to change your terrain, you must contact HTC and get them to decompile it and release it to you.

OK ... What does that take ... maybe all of 15 minutes of HTCs time ?
