Olegs next sim = Battle of Britain

Quote
Scheduled for Q1 2005 its a complete rewrite - nothing (including the planes) will be taken from Forgotten Battles. They showed some models of some of the Tanks and they looked superb.

The flight engine, graphics engine, online system, sound engine etc etc are all to be rewritten to take advantage of what the designers believe will be the state of computing power at the time the product is released.

If you want to run this sim in high detail then start saving your money now!

What really confuses me... or better yet, has me completely dumbfounded is that UBI actually pays whoever does their marketing... they are doing the free add-on because of the anticipated release in Japan.

Two Japanese aircraft, without many of their traditional targets (USN and the P38) to counter, a single "Pacific terrain" that is more than likely not going to resemble any part of the Pacific theater except in the texturing, and 4 larger maps representing areas in Europe.

If I was in Japan looking for a new game with Japanese aircraft, THAT sure would convince me to buy FB.

UBI has proven themselves time and again, they are the masters of nothing.

I dunno,

I kinda figured with the free add on we would see the early Japanese planes (a6m2 verse i16 etc.)  Even if they they dont model the "carrier wars" then a map of the area around New Guinea would have been good. Then a ki-61 and a p38j would have been good.

But with the pay addon on the way they may have wanted just to tease the Japanese market with a couple of free planes. Who knows. I would think that the US market is larger then the Japanese and they could kill 2 birds with 1 stone by focusing on the pacific with 1 release.

The biggest dissappointment in the the lack of a flyable ju88s , 110s and 210/410 and any one the russian planes of similiar type (pe series tu-2 etc). The problem seems to be with modeling the gunner positions.

I've sworn not to buy anything else from UBI Soft, so, unless these new addons are great I ain't buying them, I'm not even gonna buy Lock On..

I hate Ubi.

I've payed $60 and havn't gotten a decent flight sim from them..

Thats true, however, I believe they are putting this "free add on" into the Japanese boxed product so that they can market it to them with a Japanese plane on the cover. I could be wrong, but thats the way I read it... or atleast with mention of "Flyable Japanese planes", probably failing to note that only 2 of them exist.

With the US market, since FB has been on the shelf for almost a year now, I don't see how they are attracting a flotilla of US customers with a P51 and the few maps... especially since the only way you'll know about this is if you already have the game or have been sitting around for a year waiting until they put the Precious-51D into the game to purchase it.

Just seems a little bellybutton backwards to me, I would of saved the P51D for the pay addon in the US... you know you'd get so many more purchases with a P51D on the cover, then you'd get so many returns when they find out they need to spend another $30 to $40 on FB.

In any event, there is nothing "Forgotten" about the P51, Ki84, A6M5, B17, Ardennes, or Normandy.

Oh, and that whole "dedicated server" release that MUST go through UBI's service caused me to wish pain and suffering a million fold unto those UBI mother*******.

If you "buy" IENs BoB you are a sucker :p

Olegs BoB is completely new and wont be out until 2005.

To me I rather not see any US planes. AH has enough to satisfy that crowd. :p

The ki84 and the a6m5 did face Russian planes late in the war, (after the russians invaded manchuria) so it could still be a "forgotten war". A6m2s battled i16s. Theres one story where a group of ki84 decimated a raid of il4s. Adding an island map with a "pacific" is no big deal.

You are right though they could have came with a free patch that expanded on the current plane set themes then hit a pay addon with the west front, then one for the pac.

FB will continue to be supported and theres talk of pay 3rd party addons. Starshoy is working on one that expands the DCG.
