Cant Play At All Now!!!!!!!

Hust logged on to the Main Arena and I cant even get a frame rate better than 10. If someone can please help me with this problem I would appreciate it. If not, then I would have to cancel my account. I cant play with a frame rate of less than 10. If this is an internet problem and we can solve it I will bill Verizon for their mistakes.

1st you need to post all your pc's spec's , along with what is running in the start- up menu , operating system , any and everything ... Also have you checked for virus's ??? that will cause a pc to lose its resources  also ..  symantec  has an online virus site ..

Also what type of firewall/router ect you may be running and is it configured correctly ???

you need to do a start/run/msconfig/  go to the startup tab and see whats running on your pc ....

if you go to  start/run/dxdiag   this will open the direct X diagnostic tool this will help you test and get info from.

We cant help you any further without  info ...

What Roo said..IIRC, frame rate has nothing to do with internet connection.. Don't quote me, not 100%, but from my experiences when I've had **** connections my frame rate stays the same.

OK Let me try this again. I've posted my DXDIAG with Skuzzy and there's nothing wrong with my computer. There are no programs running in the background other than systray and explorer. There are no viruses on my computer, ran check three times. My system is running at optimal performance with no hardware or software problems.

Although my connection with the internet has been very slow. I'm on DSL and its acting like dial up running a 28.8K modem. Frigin Verizon. I'm sooo pissed.

well a really bad 56k with a bad trace route. and lost packets will make you laggy /warpy  , and it can pull your Frame rate down sometimes   .. but you ussually end up discoed alot from the game .. I just came off a 56k connect and even though i had tons of disco's my frame rates ran decent in the main , even when i tested a amptron mb pc with onboard video , 256 ram, 1 ghz amd , my frames were in the 30's on that machine ..even on 1200kbps dsl connect the frames are staying in the 30's..
(I just tested this in the last 3 weeks )


learning to trouble shoot your machine is very important these days ...  its not like 2 plus years ago when you could go online and have very few problems ... hell the OS (XP as example) can knock a great gaming machine right into the dirt , when it gets messed up.

Something to use as a reference is play the game offline , note the frame rates ... then play online in the main . you shouldnt see much difference ,   if there is a big difference then it can be your modem/ connection/ isp/phone line/ or trace route .  
(note try to use the same map for this test )

SOB I just played the game offline took B17's up dropped bombs and the frame rate dropped to zero. What the hell!! I guess not internet connectivity.

ok i missed your post while writing ...

ok with verison ... have them come out and test it from your house ... about 2 years ago i had a bad dsl connect .. it just went to hell .. i did the old unplug the modem wait a min and plug back in to reset it ... it didnt work .. finnally they came and tested it ..

(ofter telling me it was a pc problem ) i tricked them and brought my pc home from work ... and plugged it it .. same problem ...

they finnally changed there "Card " and my connect returned to normal ... this took 3 months to get straightened out ...

A decent verizon dsl connect should be above 500kbps

ok were missing something here then .. and dont rule out virus
that new Qhost trojan is almost undetectable , and the AV programs are just beginning to get out the detection scripts  for it now...

your system spec's would be nice to know also ... I just need to know what type of pc you have .and the operating system . ( dont be afraid to post it even if it is a 500mhz compac with 16mb video )  I still try to make this game work again on a old 486 i have ... just for the fun of it ..

you may have a hardware component wearing out too ...

Recon,  I would be fairly certain that your connex is not your problem, like some1 said if it were bad enough to affect your frame rate like that you would be discod in no time.

What virus scanner you use??  When was the last time you downloaded the latest definition file update?

If all comes to all and if it is possible i suggest re-installing your OS from scratch.  Also, whether you posted it to skuzzy or not,  coming here requesting help without posting your system specs is not helpful.

Roscoroos suggestion of a piece of failing h/w sounds plausable too.

DXDIAG is not the end all to be all for data.  Just because it does not show anything, does not mean there is not a problem.

Have you considered re-installing your OS?  Windows ME is not the most robust OS around.  If the problem persists after that, then it very well could be a hardware problem.

OK Here is the system specs

P4 running at 1.5ghz

Windows ME

Nvidia 3D Video Card

Heres the catch, after going through my windows update log I found out that Directx 9 was installed in an update about the same time this problem has occured. I have heard that Directx 9 screws up the video for AH. True or Not??

Well if you need any more info let me know. Will purchase WIndows XP today and install.

I had problems with direct X 9.0  9.0a   they gave me fits....

9.0b  wasnt to bad to run ... but it just wasnt quite the same as with dx 8.0 or 8.1

But now for the Bad news ... trying to unistall dx9  or any dx is a pain ... its never worked correctly for me ... Ive always had to Fdisk , and reformate to go back to an earlier version of DX ...

Has any one else managed a successful  removal of DX without formating ???

And befor getting XP i would ask yourself .. what am i doing most with my pc ??? and are you prepared to install a router/ firewall to keep XP safe ... do you have the Ram to run XP ?
 

Also for a clean install of a different OS your still gonna need to fdisk and reformate your hard drive ...

I run DX9.0b and it all goes ok apart from the odd hard lockup, but that happened since ah v1.04!! So it aint connected with 9.0b

Recon:  What exactly is the video card your using??  I suspect that if its a relatively older card then that may be the problem.  DX9 is full of stuff to support the more recent video cards such as pixel shading etc and although it shouldnt be this way, its possible that your card is too old for dx9.

I would never recommend un-installing DX its just too fraught and too much hassle.  You would be much better re-installing your os on a freshly formatted disk and then loading whatever version of DX worked ok.

I agree with flossy ME is bad news.  I use Win2k SP4 and it really is rock solid.  If you could get hold of it I would recommend it wholeheartedly.  I use XP in work and it seems good too although I only have it about 6 months.  I see no reason at all to upgrade my home rig to XP.
