Anyone watch that special on Stalin last night?

On the History channel?  They had interviews with everyone from Ukranians to NVKD guards, and Stalins son as well.  I sure it was just all lies and propoganda though (right Boroda?) ;)

I saw bits and pieces.  Every time they showed dead bodies or people about to get executed, the wife made me switch it back to the Steelers game.  Looked pretty good, from what I saw.

I did, it was revolting. I didn't know that Lenin had instructed the party to oust Stalin and make Trotsky the party leader. Interesting stuff!

I hear Stalin and Hitler are roomies down there nowadays. Well, at least they should be.

I found it remarkable that thousands of Gulag prisoners were writing letters to Stalin thinking that Stalin did not know of the conditions in which these inmages were living nor the reasons they were sent there..they actually thought that Stalin himself was such a saint that he could not possibly be directly responsible for the people being imprisoned in the Gulag.

I also found it interesting that Stalin himself spent the wee hours of the morning going over the lists of those to be executed and approving them, even adding comments like "Add 6,000 more, not enough"

The near 100% mortality rate for the mines of Kolyma near the Arctic circle was amazing...that word would literally send shivers down a civilian spine, since it was a sure death sentence.

What a nightmare for the civilians of the Soviet Union.

Boroda's not the only one Miko admires him as a consumate politician.

What was most interesting, was how matter-of-fact the ex-"interrogators" were about their craft. It makes it easy to see how people can do bad things, really bad things, to other people.....and be able to talk about it logically and unemotionally years later.

Scary chit!

Well, as they put it, the "System" would have made them victims too if they had not done what they were told to do. Catch 22, do as I say, or you become the interogee" (is that a word?)

I wonder how much of that is by chance, you did know that Saddam found Stalin fascinating and studied his every historic move.  He was a "big fan" of Stalin, according to one of his aides.
