I am on a national committee establishing codes and standards for recreational vehicles (boy does that sound republican!). Our next meeting will be in KC in April. Looking forward to (as Toad put it) the BBQ crawl.

Unfortunately Curval, you'll have to miss out on the pinnacle of BBQ - the McRib. The recipe is top secret (and probably difficult to produce lacking a cold-war ear Soviet manufacturing plant), so you'll have to wait until it comes to a McDonalds near you.

It's basically a very special rib-appearing sandwich with the bones mysteriously removed from the meat (perhaps pork, maybe beef, could be something in between) through a secret process. It is slathered in a red sauce giving it a flavor that is fully BBQ-like. When combined with one of the late, great Shamrock Shakes, it produces a flavor explosion that cannot be compared to anything else on the planet. It even inspired a famous Simpsons episode that gave a brief glimpse at the manufacturing process.

I ordered a Chicken Fried Steak in KC once...ONCE. They served up some battered mystery meat patty covered in BROWN gravy with mashed potatoes. It became painfully clear that they had NO idea how to cook in KC.

Sorry Gofaster...I didn't consider Florida.

The whole thing started after I raved about Texas BBQ. Then Toad suggested I try KC BBQ.

It went from there.

Charon...I have actually tried the McRib sandwich when in the States. YUCK!

Creamo...I think you FDBs are "hard of reading". I had already noted that KC is not a state and that Texas is...right in my first post. Must've been a little long for ya...I'll try and cut down on the length of my posts for your benefit.

We can't help ya if you're going to eat at some Phillips 66 Truck Stop as ya blow through town.

Every city/state has poor restaurants.. go ahead and say only Texas doesn't.

Chicken-fried veal or thin steak with gravy, mashed potatoes, corn, and biscuits is one of the few sins I indulge in. Done right, its the meal of the gods.

Okay...well, the Fed-Ex arrived this morning.

I've got me enough KC BBQ supplies to last a LONG time.

I pick up the smoker on my trip to Boston on Oct 15th, but I will definately sample some of these prior to returning from Beantown.

I'm salivating as I write this.

one of the main ingredients to KC BBQ is KC beef. did they send you some of those vacuum packed beef packets from the golden ox mail order?

btw- I really like this idea you got going, maybe when you are done I could judge the kung pow chicken wars and get guys to send me food.
