Recall Davis?
Yes 1,479,255   55.9%
No 1,164,790   44.1%

Top candidates
Arnold Schwarzenegger 1,243,794
Cruz Bustamante 755,242

In a state with a population of approximately 36 million, a little over 2.6 million actually got off their dead bellybutton to vote.

Hmmm... is that 60% of the population or 60% of the registered voters?

I dunno, but they compare it with %50 that voted the last election that Davis won and %70 in the Presidential election. By the way, you'll need the signatures of 12% of that 60% to call a recall vote. Better get to work now.

I saw numbers similar to those on CNN.com sandman, but it was with only 34% of precincts reporting their results.

There were 2.2 mil absentee ballots; I don't think they have even listed them yet.  Looks like the tally will be 60-70% of all registered voters, which is a real good turnout.

There's no law that says you have to speak English to be a US citizen.  That being the case, it makes sense to accomodate for citizens who speak other languages.  Do you think they shouldn't have the right to vote because they speak a different language?

Yes... I feel that you shouldn't be able to vote if you don't speak the language... I especially feel you shouldn't vote if you can't fill out an absentee ballot or find your way to the polls or.... tell the difference between yes or no in the lanmguage of the country you are voting in..

and I think you should be able to read "gray davis" in any language.

Never happen. According to the US Constitution one has to be born in the USA before you can qualify to run for President.

The movie accounted for that, there was a constitutional amendment so Arnold could run.  I hope he does well here in California so maybe it does become reality.

Watch the movie, they repeal that law in the future so that Arnold can run.

Sandman:

Typically in the United States, the percentage given for voter turnout represents the percentage of all voting age people who turned out to vote.  That figure even includes those who aren't registered to vote.  Most other democracies figure voter turnout as the percentage of registered voters who turned out to vote.

Obviously the latter consistently generates higher turnout percentages, but it also ignores those so disenchanted by politics or disenfranchised by the system that they never even register to vote.  It also means that the discrepency between voter turnout in the United States and abroad is far less than most would admit when you account for measurement differences.
