I agree completely

I'm a bit weary of the mainstream having to accomodate those that refuse to accept that English is the official language here.

The mainstream has accomodated for a good long time.

Spanish was the official language in New Mexico back in the '30s.  Probably was in all Southwestern states.  So it's really nothing new or unusual.  At least most high school classes were taught in Spanish at that time in Albequerque, NM.  And you had to learn Spanish to understand what was going on in class.

The United States has two official languages, English and Spanish.  Like it or not, it would behoove US citizens to learn both languages.

There's no law that says you have to speak English to be a US citizen. That being the case, it makes sense to accomodate for citizens who speak other languages. Do you think they shouldn't have the right to vote because they speak a different language?

yes, they should have the right to vote.  no we shouldn't be the ones to make acomodations for them.  I wouldn't live in (or even visit) a country whos main language was other than english without making provisions to comunicate with others and handle my bussiness.  I would think it would be much simpler for those who don't speak english to provide their own interpriter (as they know what language they need to have interprited) instead of us providing one for every language that may walk through the door.

 like in this case

Obviously the latter consistently generates higher turnout percentages, but it also ignores those so disenchanted by politics or disenfranchised by the system that they never even register to vote.  It also means that the discrepency between voter turnout in the United States and abroad is far less than most would admit when you account for measurement differences.

Thanks DMF... I understand.

The initial post wasn't about parties or candidates. It simply irks me that many do not take advantage of a system that allows them to have a voice (however small). There are citizens in other countries that are quite wiling to fight and die for the privilege that so many in this country simply ignore.

Why would someone vote if they do not feel any of the candidates are worthy or they feel disenfrancised by the system?  Don't think everyone that does not vote is just too lazy to get off their duff.

Liberals are never happy
They have complained about low voter turn out and blamed it on Reagan and Bush, saying if it weren’t for poor choices there would be a greater number of voters.
California has the largest number of voter turn out for a Gov. election in the history of the state 70%. And they are crying about how the people are stupid for voting in such high numbers.

I think y'all are wrong, and here's why:

The day when everyone in a democracy agrees on everything is the day that democracy becomes a farce.  It's argument that makes our country strong, not agreement.  If all the car makers were buddy buddy from the beginning, we'd all be driving Model T lookalikes.  Conflict drives progress.

I think all my fellow californians should be happy there's so much shouting and conflict, that means we're doing something.
