hehe..

I've got a Saphire Radeon 9500/ 128 (Not a PRO) that I've hacked the BIOS (TY RAGE 3D)! With Omega Drivers it's benching almost as fast as my 9700 PRO  :D

BUT, I can see the difference in the quality of the images. Pixel pipeline and bandwidth make a BIG difference! IF ya got the extra cash for a 9700 PRO, get it! Check Pricewatch daily. I've seen them (9700 PRO's) as cheap as $235.

There was an earlier thread talking about this. It was brought up that since Ati said the 9600XT would be faster than the 9700Pro in all cases. That didn't sound right to me so I emailed Ati. This is what they had to say.

Regarding if the Radeon 9600 XT is faster than the Radeon 9700 Pro:

Unfortunately, the Radeon 9600 XT is not faster than the Radeon 9700 Pro. Although the Radeon 9600 XT has a higher clock speed, the Radeon 9700 Pro has more pixel pipelines, 8 vs 4, and it also has a higher memory interface, 256bit vs 128bit.

Depends on where you read your information. Anandtech has it projected as being faster than the 9700pro :

Prefer to trust Anandtech at this moment since I am not sure if this is to protect the 9700pro market at the moment.

but will wait until it arrives an is tested to pronounce judgment

Oh wow the Omega drivers are the shizzy.

I downloaded the nVidia one for my FX 5200 at work and got an immediate increase from 35fps to 50+.

At home I downloaded the latest Catalyst based omega driver for my 9600 Pro... OH MY GOD!  I used to get 75-85 fps.  Last night i got 94-115 fps consistently.... scary.

I took a screen shot when it was showing 112 fps at 1280x1024x32.  Thank you Omega!
