That funny-looking bomb thingie (with the yellow rectangle) under the wing is a life raft.

These units used war weary (that's the WW on the tail) fighters to roam around the channel, dropping liferafts to down pilots, and coordinating the rescue.  The high speed of the P47 was considered to be an asset in getting to the reported location of a down pilot before the poor fellow froze to death.

Either dye marker or a smoke float, I think.  They used it to keep track of the down pilot.

Yep, 5th ERS operated out of Boxted and Halesworth with War Weary P47Ds from May 44-May 45, OA-10A (PBY) from January 45-May 45 and lifeboat equipped B17Gs from March45-May 45.

The RAF had 6 ASR Squadrons operated by Fighter Command, equipped with 50 modified Spitfire IIs that operated from 43-45 also.  These carried rafts and other rescue equipment in modified flare chutes in the fuselage.

The idea being that the older Spits and war weary Jugs could still defend themselves if need be and had the speed to get to the area of a rescue quickly.

that'd be a cool skin if the CT ever runs a setup featuring the checkertails.

why not suggest it?

I'm always right, it just takes some poepl longer to come to that realization than others.

i have no idea where they operated or who they faced, so i'd not be able to give a Staffer the necessary info to be able to make such a setup.

i just want to shoot that ugleeeee thang from the skies.

Well, let me see...pink ailerons, pink cockpit trim, pink tapered accent on the side of the fuselage...me thinks you will find all the skinning info you will need if you look in Queer Eye for the Straight Guy's client files.  Pretty sure you will find them in a loft apt/studio in San Francisco.

About shooting that ugly thaaaaang out of the sky?  I feel your pain...
