Texas Republicans Show Their True Colors

The truth rears it's ugly head in Texas Redistricting struggle as Republicans finally show their true colors.

From The Houston Cronicle

Quote
"The Queen lives!!!!" the three-page memo written by Barton's legislative counsel, Joby Fortson, says about Houston Democratic Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee. "As much as we despise her, she cannot be drawn out."

Fortson's memo, obtained Friday by the Houston Chronicle, describes in bullet form his views on the effect the redistricting map would have on all 32 Texas congressional districts.

For Reps. Lloyd Doggett of Austin and Martin Frost of Dallas, whose districts would be obliterated or drastically changed by the new map, Fortson begins his analysis with, "ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ... "
As a preamble, Fortson wrote that the map "is the most aggressive I have ever seen. This has a real national impact that should assure that Republicans keep the House no matter the national mood."

In several places, Fortson defined the new map's meandering district lines, drawn to assure a Republican majority, as "wacky," particularly the 17th District. It was redrawn to get rid of Democratic Reps. Charles Stenholm of Abilene and Chet Edwards of Waco, pushing Edwards' district into conservative Johnson County.

Gov. Rick Perry and his "Band of Thugs" has made redistricting their Holy Grail. So far he has called an unprecedented 3 Special Sessions to get his own way, and spent over 5 Million taxpayer dollars in the process.By drawing up, by their own description, "wacky" districts that string from Austin to the Mexico border then back to New Mexico they are manipulating Texans right to elect Represenatives. They do not want the people to be able to chose who represents their viewpoints.

It's just wrong, plain and simple.

The Republican redistricting drive in Texas is a flagrant power grab, since the current district lines were established only a year ago, by a nonpartisan panel of federal judges, based on the 2000 Census figures. Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott, a Republican, said the district boundaries could remain in force, as is customary, until the next census in 2010.

The new redistricting bill is a blatant attempt to suppress political opposition and deprive millions of state residents of any effective franchise.

The Texas Republicans are the fringest of the fringe even when it comes to the GOP.  One can't even call their intentions retrograde - they seek to legislate drastic changes to all areas of government.  They also produced our current president, who has pulled the executive branch to the far right as well.

The libs just do not know how to lose. Redistricting (and screwing reps in any way they could) was their favorite game until... yes... they lost.

Suddenly, they like "bi-partisanship", "sharing of power", "cooperation".

Fcukem. I hate reps only slightly less than libs (they are both thieves), but it feels good to see the libs screwed (or at least screaming).

Too bad GW has his nose burried so deep in a liberal bellybutton that his ears are covered. I guess I'm staying home next election. If the reps showed an even moderate attempt and will to take advantage of a win, I'd might vote for them as a lesser evil.

Looks like I'm staying home.

this redistricting fight is so satisfying :)  The dems dropped the ball and didn't do it when they were supposed to and so the Republicans picked up the ball.  Now the reps are driving it down the throats of the dems using the same rules the dems used for um... lik 130 years :rofl :lol

How much representation do you think I had when that stupid potato jackson lee was my representative?  None, that's how much. and she is very stupid.  Remember she's the one that asked NASA to take the MARS pathfinder over to were the astronauts had planted the flag back in '69, on live TV :D

What is sad about the whole deal is the current lines were drawn by a nonpartisan panel of Federal Judges. Nobody gerrymandered anything...until now. Perry has pushed this issue too far and it will be an ugly EXPENSIVE battle for years to come. This mess is also going to effect the primary election date. Please Rick, get over it and get on down the road!

:D

Yeah, just like the 9-th Circuit...

There were 27,000+ laws passed in CA within last 10 years, guess which two are held at bay by those clowns in 9-th...

yes, correct.... get yourself a Mars Bar

Proposition 187 and Proposition 209.

Tripple tax on a car registration and driver's licence for illegals are still a law.

RPM, the Judges did NOT change the lines, they just left them the way the Demos had drawn them prior.  Get some facts, Sir, because sorry as the spectacle is, it is nothing new, it is just politics.  The demos happen to be on the short end this time, that is all.
