Energy Maneuverability Diagrams: P51 vs Spit9
« on: October 14, 2003, 08:32:22 AM »
Hi,

Im looking for Spitfire IX vs P51D Energy Maneuverability Diagrams.

So far I had find out only Sea level E-M-chart made by Badboy.

Picture is from Energy Management: Picking the Right Airplane for the Job article by Badboy  (Simhq site)

I would like to compare Spitfire IX vs P51D performance higher alts like 15k or 30k.

Badboy or somebody, any help?

BTW Im also curious how much P51D flaps effect for turning performance.

Thanks

Hi Xjazz

Just spotted this post, sorry it took so long.

I just checked through my files and it looks like I have the P-51D and Spit IX diagrams, but there is a catch. When I analysed the Spit IX I was in the habit of producing diagrams for SL, 15k and 30k. When I did the P51D some time later, for a comparison with the La7 and Yak-9U, I did it at SL, 10k, 20k and 30k and so the only two altitudes I can compare directly (without any real effort) is SL and 30k.

What I should do is to revisit the Spit IX and produce 10k and 20k charts for it so we have a comparison at 4 altitudes. However, it has been so long since I looked at it, I would probably be better doing it again from scratch, just in case it isn't the same as it used to be after so many patches. I'll try and look at it again this weekend and post the results here.
