No I am not, I just lived in Moose Jaw SK for 18 years.  Really small town with a really big air base.

First tip: Don't call it the RCAF :)

It is just CAF ( Canadian Armed Forces) now.

Ah, I thought you may have been because of the free pint (assumed you meant on the base).

I'll try not to call it the RCAF anymore, one of those things I picked up from watching WWII movies... kind of like USAAF, now its just USAF, but I still call it USAAF.

Loser, Am I correct in assuming you are a pilot in the RCAF? If you are, any tips you can offer me? Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks, but I don't think I'll make it.

To be eligible to apply to the Canadian Forces you must be a Canadian citizen.

I'll still call and see, but it doesn't look like it'll work out.

Isn't NATO's military strength a portion of each member's already trained military?

I think the only jobs NATO actually has open are for civilians doing secretarial or managerial work.

I quickly found out that both the 1-800 number and the numbers for the majority of the recruiting offices near my side of the US were incorrect on the website and have since been changed. I got the number for the Toronto recruiting post after a few calls, I'm hoping they haven't updated their requirements on that page just like their phone numbers so maybe there's a chance I *may* be eligible. However, its between slim and none... and I think slim has left the building.

It was a nice thought to entertain for a couple of hours. Just like Faith No More's song "Epic", "Its in your face but you can't grab it".

Yep Wulfe, your chances are probably less than slim to none.
You have to be a Canadian Citizen.
The medical standards for pilots are very high.
Education requirements are high (although they will put you through University).
I retired from the CAF in '95.
Wasn't a pilot, was a technician. I don't have perfect uncorrected vision, so didn't qualify.
Training is at a pretty high standard as well.
only 70% of recruits will make it through initial pilot training.
of that 70% another 20% will not make it to ,or through, advanced jet training.
Some will go Helicopter and some may go transport. However due to the fact that the Government has raped the military those who wash out of advanced  jet training will most likely move on to some other career choice.
AS for the CF18, out of the original recruit class starting initial pilot training, probably less than 5% of them will ever fly a CF18.

Spent 10 years with that Jet. I still miss it (even though it is quite dated now).

So..yep they are actively recruiting, but the requirements haven't really changed from what they have always been. They are just advertising it now.

Cheers,
RTR
