Great Fights 56th FG
« on: May 21, 2001, 09:44:00 AM »
WOW!

The 412th was on squad night patrol near A53 last night. Our 3-ship formation of P-51Ds came across 2x P-47D-30s, 1x P-51D and 1x N1K all at about 18K. We engaged and the fight moved back to A35. We all played "cat & mouse" in the clouds the whole way back, each of us making various attack paases on one another.

As we got near 35, the fight went low. All said and done, both P-47s, P-51 and N1k are dead. 412th RTB.

Later that night:
The 412th is flying 3x P-51D and 1x P-51B formation east to A49 when we encounter 4x P-47D-30 at 18k over the clouds. Two of the P47s come at us, while the other 2 split off north and move around to flank us.

Again, we engage and the fight is turning and twisting all though the clouds. When it is all said and done, the 56th is dispatched and the 412th all RTB

<SALUTE> the 56th on excelltent fighting and great use of coordinated combat tactics. It is so much fun to come up against other squads that fight as a unit and work together well.

I know I had major adrenaline pumping during both encounters and always look forward to those types of fights.
