JAG - Slight change in show?
« on: October 18, 2003, 12:48:21 AM »
So, I caught the tail end of JAG today, and it looked like the lawyer guy was flying an....  Aurora spyplane.

?!

Did they offer any back story to this?  How was it unveiled in the story?  Has a shark been jumped?

Quick JAG rundown:
Harm quit JAG to go find Mac in South America. Found girl saved day, didn't hit it, blah, blah...
Admiral would not hire him back, CIA offered him job, now he's a spook & black ops pilot. This has got to be the last season, it used to be a good show before it turned soap opera.

I saw a video once where a C-130 makes a carrier landing.  Don't remember the circumstances, but as I remember, it was an actual military test.  Probably they will use that footage for the show.

>edit: Did some surfing and found this:

The trials were conducted aboard USS Forrestal (CVA-59) in
October, 1963.  The aircraft involved was a USMC KC-130F.

Modifications to the aircraft comprised the installation of an
improved antiskid braking system and the removal of the external
fuel tanks.  A sink rate of 9 feet per second was employed, with
the first landings made with a 40-knot wind over the flight deck.

The crew included a pilot, copilot, flight engineer and a Lockheed
flight test pilot.  Twenty-nine touch and goes and 21 full-stop
landings were made without the benefit of arresting gear.  The
propellers were reversed while the aircraft was still a few feet
above the flight deck.  These were followed by 21 unassisted
takeoffs at gross weights ranging from 85,000 to 121,000 pounds.
(To put that into perspective, the maximum takeoff weight for
the C-130E, on which the KC-130F is based, is 135,000 pounds,
with 155,000 pounds permitted in emergency wartime situations.)

For a guy that was grounded because of night blindness, he sure does a lot of flying at night.

He had miracle surgery a couple seasons ago.  He went back briefly to flying before realizing (with the help of his shipmates) that he was just too old to be competitive against the young pilots, so he decided to stick to what he was good at, namely, putting those young pilots behind bars.

Ever notice when Harm flies SOMETHING always happens?  You'd figure he'd get the point now: he's cursed in an airplane.  Not to mention the fact that Mac has been hot for him for 6 years now.  I think he got caught up in the "new, softer, more sensitive 90's man" thing.
