Short Story...

First date.....

Listening to the radio in my car and Jimi Hendrix starts playing.....

The girl ask "Who's that?"

I said "Jimi Hendrix"

She said "who's he?"

I said "Get out"

Seriously....

Dashboard Confessional - nothing but sad whines about some girl that got away.  The kid whos the lead singer has got to be the most twittle'd up in the head guy for whatever some girl did to him.

This is bad because...girls like it and feel sorry for him i suppose so they blare these songs very loud and they're nothing but "I'm missing your bed, I never sleep...avoiding the spots where we'd have to speak" blah blah blah BLAH.  I hate it...I really do.  But as I said...girls like it so....

I must as well.  Same with little johnny mayer (whos a real-life ******** but for some reason girls don't care) and his songs.  The good news is Dashboard's guitarists aren't especially good so it's easy to play and actually look better.  You don't need a voice so you can sing and the words are essentially all the same as are many of the tunings for many of their songs.

Brilliant Dance and Screaming Infidelities are 2 songs that come to mind with a wicked googly of a tuning that nobody else would have come up with. Db Db Db Db Ab Db....odd I say.

Johnny Mayer plays most of his songs in standard tuning and uses usually 1 chord per song with some slight variations in fingering to makea new pseudo-chord or some creative fingerpicking (Why Georgia comes to mind) with a suspended C chord.

To hell with them...If at all possible I avoid playing them live since I really don't like either band.  If I'm playing covers I usually go with Dave Matthews, Jimi Hendrix, Matchbox Twenty, Hootie and the Blowfish, Maroon 5 and Counting Crows.  The latter 3 usually require a duet to sound any good.

Reasons why Dave Matthews is good...
1. Girls like him and his music.
2. I love the music...unique, songs have meaning and good lyrics.
3. Every song isnt about some ***** that broke your heart.

Now these are just bands that I like to PLAY, not just listen to.  I could go on and on and on and on and on and on about bands and artists I like.
