Favorite "B-side" songs.....
« on: October 21, 2003, 12:34:48 PM »
Ok fellers, in an attempt to mask the insanity that is Udie I'm starting a light hearted thread :D

What's your favorite songs that were on the "b-sides" of records or your favorite songs that never really got radio play.  Please limit them to famous bands that did get radio play on their other songs......

My 2 fav's are both from the same album.  The B side of Metallica's "Master of Puppets"  the songs....  Disposable Hero's and Lepper Messiah.  They were the 1st 2 songs on the 2nd side and just happen to be my 2 favorite Metallica songs.

by "b" side and reading your post i guess you are talking about released songs (either on a full length album or a flip side of a single)

the song "Hummer" by smashing pumpkins seems to fit the bill sort of. on the "Saimese Dream" album track #4 never got airplay that i know of. same with track #7 "Soma" and #8 "Geek USA"

but true "B" sides are not that common.

1 true "B" side i have is from Pearl Jam's demo single. there is a version of "Alive" that is really cool but also a cover of the beatles "I've got a feeling" that i just love. i have never heard it anywhere else except a live version they played on stage with the smashing pumpkins that sucks in sound quality.

but back to topic sort of... are you asking for songs that were never released as singles hence never played on mainstream radio?
I don't know what to put here yet.

By "B-side"  I don't mean singles.  I never really got in to those.  I guess I'm more interested in songs by famous bands that didn't get radio play.   Most of these songs though reside on the 2nd (B) side of albums......

please continue :)

I love B sides. I mean "real" B sides, as in the second half of a single, genenrally otherwise unreleased.

The B side to the Cure single 'The Walk' was pretty good. It's titled 'A few hours after this' and is actually available on the cassette release of the "Standing on a Beach" compilation.

Terminous El dorado  by Ted Nugent

Also worthy of note, there is a classic rock station in SF that has streaming audio available  http://www.1077thebone.com . just found an apparent sister radio station in TX. I'm familiar with the SF area station, they have a "boneyard B-side" program where they take requests & play various rock "B-sides" daily.

will do...

please bear in mind i have WIDE musical tastes. some of these songs will be by artists most of you would not prefer to listen to. there is a possibility that if you DL (of your own accord in compliance with RIAA rules) these songs and give them a listen you might actually come to respect the artists.

here goes:

Jewel: 'till We Run Out of Road
Pearl Jam: Release
Chris Isaak: Breaking Apart
Dave Matthew's Band: Rhyme and Reason
Megadeth: Poison Was the Cure
Smashing Pumpkins: Porcelina of the Vast Oceans
Mazzy Star: Take Everything (well pretty much everything by them has never gotten airplay)

blanking out now.... will add when i get home.
I don't know what to put here yet.

damn just too many to list.  every one of my favorite songs are of the 'B' side.

I have a very wide taste in music (just about anything with a strong blues influence.  just no rap, boybands, or crying in your beer country stuff), and I've found that the 'A' side is where the songs go that they play for sucess or money(stuff they can sell), the 'b' side is where the artist puts the songs he does for himself, even if they aren't as comercialy viable
