Might be a Tuskegee but it ain't no pilot with 3 stripes on his arm. Afaik there was no Sgt. pilots in the USAAF (maybe glider pilots though).

The AAF did have a rank similar to sargeants near as I can figure.  There was a program to give non-coms their pilots wings during ww2.  Graduates of these programs were called "flying sargeants".  But someone decided that all pilots had to be officers so they invented the rank "flight officer" which was equivilent to warrant officer which is one grade below 2nd lieutenant.  They wore blue bars instead of silver or gold and were refered to accordingly.  This was how Chuck Yeager of all people got his start in the Air Force.


Just did a little snooping around the net and these flight officers carried 3 stripes on their arm it would seem
