I'm realy confused.  People quit the best online flight sim because they can't cuss?  I'm sorry to start another thread on this but it's a realy crazy issue so I'll post another crazy thread.  I finaly got all my cpu/HOTAS problems solved the other day and can fly right  once again.

I've been noticing the last couple of days that this game absolutely rocks. With the mission builder, new FM's, manable ground vehicles, good strat, nice looking flack, fuel managment, refuel/rearm abilities, full 3d cockpits, custom terrains, complex damage system, tunable RW chanels, squad nose art, realistic clouds and the film recorder we're at a new height with our hoby.

Somebody is willing to walk away from that because they can't make people read bad language?  I'm sorry that make absolutely NO since to me at all. In fact it seems childish and stupid. (sorry don't mean to make anybody angry) Especialy when it's the first version of this filter.

Man it almost makes me willing to pay HTC an extra $30 a month just to keep some one like that out of the arenas.

I'd gladly pay $35.00 a month to help take up the slack from any lost accounts - as few as they may be.

If that means you are leaving because you can't cuss and insult, then don't let the door hit you on your way out.

I guess threats to quit are a viable recourse if you don't like the way the sim is going. However, I would bet far more quit or never signed up because of the vocal few who saw fit to turn the arena into a locker room or worse.

I think HTC did exactly the right thing.

I've always assumed that the "I quit" threads are just another way to grab attention. You've seen these people. They cuss and insult and bash and do everything in order for someone to talk to them. Then when noone does, (squelched 1) they come to these boards to post an "I quit" thread, go on about something THEY (keyword) don't like, and then they wait to see how much attention they can get. That's mainly why the language and the "I quit" threads are here. I understand how everyone feels about the foul mouths here. I myself am 16, and I know my parents would have a coniption if they knew about it. That's why I support the filter. Add $10 for me.

Sad thing is that we won't hear HT saying "Take this as a polite warning" anymore, then a deafining silence from the offender.
WTG HT....maybe disableing the filter for squad channels but over all it's has my aproval
And to the people threatining to quit 'cause they can't cuss anymore...that's just plane silly and shows a lack of maturity IMO.

For the people who didn't bother actually reading what was in my post....

I will quit this game if the filter is not changed because (#1) its easier to make a general filter that players can choose to have on or off, not to diddlyin mute me for cussing on my own squad channel and (#2) because its just a sign of things to come. Anyone who would mute someone instead of
programming a general game filter that
you can choose to have on/off is also likely to make other changes that deny people the right to do something, say somethign, fly a certain way,etc instead of coming up with a better more intelligent solution.

Who says you have the right to curse in the arena? No one. It's HTC's arena to set the rules. Beyond that, it's the rules of common courtesy. The only "right" your $29.95 gives you is entrance into the arenas and access to the planes and vehicles.  It's not censorship - he can set whatever "tone" in his arenas he wants. I salute his step to making the arenas more friendly. Though it's not a perfect solution by any means, it surely gets the point across that foul language won't be tolerated.

The problem with squelch is it's a band-aid for AFTER THE FACT. The typical flow for squelch is, someone offends you, then you squelch them. This of course assumes you know enough to squelch them, as many new players will not be aware of that feature. A user-defineable profanity filter does the same thing. Why must *I* make the effort to configure my FE to block out your rudeness?

Again, this is not censorship. It's a rather mild attempt to force certain individuals to police their own actions, before those actions drive off other players. If you can't have fun in AH without swearing, then you got a problem.

The way I read it, it sounded like you were saying add another $5 because you were leaving too. "Add another $5 to *your* account" meaning Westy was to pay $5 more.

Torque, learn to use complete sentences and articulate your thoughts properly. Try proper capitalization and punctuation too. Dork.

MrLars - there was one event where a guy starting mouthing off to HT. HT warned him and the guy kept right going. I think HT even booted him once because he came back and asked if HT was going to do "that" again - and then kept right on provoking.

My opinion was that HT should have banned him right then and there. The arena is a bit out of control and there are a few who think they ought to be able to do whatever they want. It is amazing.

We are guests of HTC. Paying guests to be sure, but go to a hotel and start insulting other guests and cussing in the lobby. It is the exact same thing. See how long before you are asked to leave and then see how long before a squad car shows up. The analogy is a very close one. I can't believe these people don't see it.
