I did the Air Force routine.  Boot camp was such a let down.  Never did a pushup but could I fold underwear!  I suppose they desire attention to detail...lol....I really wanted to have a good time on the confidence course and firing the M-16s.  Well the lackland confidence course looks like where your kids play when you go out for ice cream.  And the M-16s had the .22LR conversions in them that jammed every 3rd round.

Thank you for all the advice guys. I ended up running 2 miles in 17:17 on Thursday (last thursday), that is equal to just under 13 minutes for a mile and a half, which i need to run at the start of bootcamp in 13 minutes 30 secs. Seems like a lot of people have gone into the military, I am definately looking forward to it.

Woah... hey man, what "kind" of degree are you talking about?  Are you going to be doing a reserve/rotc kind of thing after MCT or straight active enlisted? You do realize that military training alone will NOT get you a college level 4yr degree, it will get you close(er) to a 2yr but definately not a 4yr.  Not trying to call you on anything here but, I'm a little concerned about some recruiter telling you will slide into a degree by joining the USMC and doing all the required training for 4 years, it just doesn't work that way.

whats your ht and wt? in high school you should be sub seven minutes per mile anywhere up to five miles. dont aim for the min thats trouble. youre never gonna be rested or without a cold or a sprain or something when you get timed. youve got a little under a year being in high school you could be a machine by the time you show up for boot camp. youve got plenty of time dont increse your daily run distances by more than 1/10 each week. if you havent been running regular then take third and fourth week of to avoid shin splints. go to your cross country coach for running program tell him you are going marines. go to your wrestling coach for a pt program and tell him you are going marines. when you show up for boot you want to be able to double the reps and half the times for anything they ask you to do. that way if you bust an ankle or get in trouble your di is gonna see you are hard core and maybe cut you some slack. "your reputation begins in boot camp".

Tumor...basically you get a 4 yr. degree in a little under than 2 years, but you have to work your bellybutton off to achieve this. Anonymous that sounds like a good plan dude, I'm already starting to get shin splints, I will talk to my personal trainer and everything. Later all.

I ain't never been a JarHead but I was in the Airforce for 4 years.

My advice to you is to rent "Full Metal Jacket" and watch it about a hundred times. It is the only movie that even comes close to the reality of Boot Camp (And I was Just in the Airforce).

Just remember they say "A few good men" for a reason. They mean a few. About 30% of the guys you show up with won't finish Basic. Just make sure your not one of them. It is an initiation into a very elite club. They want to make sure you really really want in. So you better want it. But in the end it is a very well rehearsed game and you are brunt of the game. So tough it out, suck it up and walk it off. It's a game just like AH (except it really hurts if you get shot there).

Tumor...I'm sorry dude I stand corrected, most of the Marines that only go in for 4 years only get a 2yr. whatever degreee...not bachelors lol. Than you use the $35,000 for college when you get out to get your bachelors and even if you only have a 2yr. degree you will most likely get hired at a good place because you were employed by the government and I've had 2 years of CAD experience in high school along with the 4 more I will recieve in the Marines.

Glad you checked that out man.  The 2yr degree is great but don't stop there... and work hard at it early.  I'm busting my bellybutton to get my degree and I'm almost at 18yrs (ya, was lazy).  Got me 126 hours so far but they don't fit together for any particular major lol.  CLEP as much General Education as you can, hell, start before you leave.  Attending college classes is getting much easier with the online stuff,  but computer space is limited when your out in the fleet... btw, I hear about all this stuff because I work in an Army dominated shop, therefore the 1 Air Force guy, me, and the 5 or 6 Marines in the shop all work together on the night shift lol.  Also, I think your making a very good choice.  Hey, I like the Air Force, but without at doubt.. the Marines have got it together in a few area's the Air Force can only dream about (mentoring being the biggest).  I spent most of last Friday afternoon convincing my 18yr old kid to go USMC rather than USAF if that tells ya anything.

and for what it's worth... I'm amazed that the US Army can win a fight without killing each other before they even arrive.  Keep that in mind if you ever end up in a Unified Command slot lol.
