An honest man(honest to himself by your definition, at least), can not take the decisions that must be made for the greater good, rather than the individual.

Without hesitation I would choose "A."

I could not trust "B" to be truthful to agree to my views 100%, nor could I trust his keeping his (or her) word/views after he (or she) got elected.
