What HTC is asking for
« on: October 23, 2003, 11:48:52 AM »
There's been some name-calling, etc, over reports of various "bugs" found in the first two builds of AHII beta.  None directed at me, yet, but that could be a matter of time.  I'm a little fuzzy on what HTC is asking for in the way of reports.

Surely, some things are obvious.  The frame-rate test instructions are very detailed and specific.  They have also made it clear they are not interested in flight-model reports right now.

However, what do these phrases (from the two stickys) mean?

"We're interested in lockups, crashes, major rendering errors, and frame-rate." ... "and various other blatant graphics problems/anomalies."

Does it mean missing props on planes?  Not sure.
Does it mean flashing artifacts on the horizon?  Not sure.
Does it mean missing pieces of planes viewed from external?  Not sure.

These all appear to be graphics/rendering issues .. but I'm not real solid on the terminology, I guess.  I'm afraid that catch-all sorts of instructions like this only confuse those trying to help.

Perhaps HTC could clarify for the 'dolts' among us?
Thanks.

It is allowed to use your own brain, you know.

Something displayed wrong on your screen = graphics error

graphics error = a bug in the graphics code

a bug in the graphics code = exactly what HTC wants to root out

If you dont know exactly if its a major or minor rendering error, just post it.

Off course risk running into some police-dolt(TM) who tells you to RTFM bug wise, and STFU if you dont know what youre talking about. But thats just life.

I dont think HT was yelling at those who pointed out bugs in a meaningful way, but those who bashed his "new sim". Because it aint his new sim yet. I know a bit about sotware development but I cannot claim to know _exactly_ what HTC needs to know right now. So let them sort it out.

Just report it, if its not what everybody was waiting for it will go unnoticed.
