I don't want to get into a whole new thread on reparations.
But.
The argument about this country prospering from slavery is not accurate. If you look at the GDP and other economic indicators of the south vs. the north (free black workers) you will find that the south was worst off with (slave labor). So to say this country was build on slavery is not true.
It was built on industrialization in the free north.

The Reverend Mr. Breckenridge, who spent 40 years of his life in an attempt to make the blacks whole through the establishment of Liberia and the return of manumutted slaves to that Free and Independent country(a couple of thousand in 40 years elected to return!), finally reached the conclusion that what? What did he decide? Anyone know? What, in 1862-5 was the best alternative? Slavery, of course was not the answer.

Actually, there was a huge wealth transfer from the South to the North, so the industrialisation of the free North was largely financed by the slave labor of the South.

It may not be obvious at a first glance but that was an economic reality. I am not getting into the details now but it has to do with the incidence of taxation and such issues.

The country as a whole obviously could not prosper from a forced internal wealth transfer and associated trade restrictions but the North certainly did.

BS. The wealth is a subjective concept and some abstract natural resource have no value to you unless you can derive some use of it. The vast deposits of coal, uranium ore or oil did not represent wealth in 17th century and may stop being wealth in the future.

I think if you really do some research you'll find that the majority of the profits of the slave trade went to England.

It was a 3 cornered trade that started with cheap English trade goods, Beads, pig iron, cheap cloth etc.

These were sailed to africa's west coast.

Slaves bought were then shipped to Jamacia, Hati, or the American South & sold to plantation owners. Proceeds were then used to buy Rum & sugar & hauled back to england.

The full round trip could take 3 to 5 years, and either make or break the company who financed it.

So go bother the English for your "reperations". They are the ones who got rich off your G G G Grandparents
