i just spent the last hour looking for a monitor that has those resolutions AND refresh rate....

there were ZERO!

i really didnt find anything decent in the 19' CRT monitor with a refresh above 60 for 1900x1600. (i want 1280x1024 @ 90-100hz or better personally)

btw replicant.. whats £259 in US dollars?

£259 = $414 but I got mine for $355

I found this US website that sell it too http://www.iiyama-mart.com/ - they sell it for $358 which is the cheapest I saw it in the US.  Try searching some more websites for the Iiyama Vision Master Pro 454.

The only negative thing about this monitor is that it has 2 very, very faint horizontal lines, one near top, one near bottom, but I've been reliably informed that this is normal for DiamondTron monitors (prolly why it has such a high refresh rate).

I could let you know where you can get large, S.O.T.A. flat screens for free, but with your monitor presently broken, you wouldn't be able to read my message anyway.....

I wonder how are you able to use the mouse and check your posts without having some visual feedback... ;)

Using my laptop.  Which is what I used for 90% pf what I do anyways.  Anyways, I would prefer a flat panel, but am a bit nervous on all I havee heard.  Money is not really an object in it, but I refuse to spend over $1000.00 on a monitor.  Appreciate all your suggestions thus far.

LCD screens (Flat panels, whatever), have taken big steps in the past year.  Now they have refresh rates that make them as good as CRTs for games.

The breakdown comes to:

A) Color Fidelity: Flat Panels still don't get the proper reproduction of a CRT.  Some get close, but they still tend to skew blue.

B) Eyestrain: the high contrast ratios of flat panels mean they're much easier on the eyes.  If you're staring at a computer all day, this is what you want.

C) Refresh Rates: as noted, flat panels have improved with refresh rates, but pay attention to what you buy.  A low-end one will leave all kinds of ghosts and make video and games impossible.

D) Cost: Flat Panels are getting cheaper, but CRTs are still cost-effective.

E) Weight: I replaced my 60lb NEC PF 995 with an 11lb Hitachi CLM 174.  Oh yeah it's nice.

Do your research.
(oh and I like http://www.monitorsdirect.com/.  They've gone the extra mile for me in the past).

3 of them are 5 years old & going strong.

Mostly CTX although my last is a samtron.

On the other hand, I bought 2 monitors from an expensive computer place.

Both fried within 3 years.

I guess they sell all the good stuff up north where you are :p

CTX lasted about 14 months, my new Samtron adjusts the screen size at will (desktop only) but plays AH and other games just fine. I come downstairs often to find the screen about 4 inches high, power off/on and it restores to normal size. However, within minutes, it begins to shrink vertically once again. The club where I purchased the monitor said I cannot exchange it and suggested I send it to the company listed in my owners manual. This monitor is only 6 months old, kinda frustrating to have to deal with something like this. I'm getting a 22" Mitsubishi with my new PC so it's not a major concern any more.
Razer

Hellcat FG

"They porked the Hellcat? Why did they do that?"

Hi again

Must be misprint - checked on the main Iiyama website and found this:-

1920 x 1440 / max. 86 Hz
1600 x 1280 / max. 97 Hz
1600 x 1200 / max. 104 Hz
1480 x 1024 / max. 122 Hz
1280 x 1024 / max. 122 Hz
1024 x 768 / max. 162 Hz
800 x 600 / max. 200 Hz
640 x 480 / max. 200 Hz

Goto http://www.iiyama.com/default.asp, select products, choose Vision Master Pro 454 from CRT drop down menu, then select Technical details. They also have a list of where you can buy the monitor from.

Incidently, the VM Pro 454 is also known as 'HM903DT' which you need to know when you download the drivers!  Mine is actually the HM903DT 'A', dunno what the 'A' means and if it's any different?

I've had a 19' Viewsonic A90 for many years.  Still has a perfect picture.

When I got a new game machine a year+ ago, I bought a $90 17'MAC POS for the old machine, and put the A90 on my game machine.

Well, the MAC never had a clear picture, and lately its started hissing, getting burryer, losing color, and getting worse by the day.

So I went to Best Buy and bought a 19' Viewsonic A90f+ Flatscreen for $230.  Its on the game machine now, and the old A90 is on the old machine.
Great monitor, affordable, and flat, no glare.

Get one.

I have a 17" MAGinnovision and love it. It is a 93 model (good grief!). It was given to me 5 years ago by a friend that wanted a new monitor. I have had 0 problems with it, other than a frayed wire on the connector and it still has a great picture. Check TigerDirect.com , they always have some great deals.

I have an Iiyama Visionmaster Pro 510. 22" monitor. If you've lots of deskspace, this is the one to get. It's very heavy, though. The current version is £419 and 30 Kg. I run 1600x1200x32@100Hz.

Iiyama Vision Master Pro 454 19" CRT

Completely flat screen, and the base has built in speakers (won't use them), built in 4 x USB hub, Mic connector.

The impressive thing is the refresh rate!

2048 x 1536 @ 80 hz
1800 x 1440 @ 85 hz
1600 x 1200 @ 100 hz
1280 x 1024 @ 120 hz
1024 x 768 @ 160 hz

I'm now running at 1600 x 1200 @ 100hz!  Very bright screen though, just need to tweak it a little!

NEXX - how much did you pay for that? I'm going to be building a new PC next month, and want a flat screen. Currently have a iiyama Vision Master 450 which I bought 2½ years ago for £385. It's been fine, but I'd like something that's not as deep. The current one needs about 2 feet of space. Other than that, I've been satisfied with the iiyama.
