The only alternative I can see would be to remove most of the COs discretion and have the design CM allocate missions for both sides for each frame with the object of providing as good a fight as possible.

Can't say I like this idea...

Would turn SSO stale.
I like the suspense of not knowing the other side's plans. Only finding out during the frame where they focus their efforts, or where they send the reserves, etc. When I CO, for me its fun to be on my toes constantly, and adapt the original plan to counter the enemies move as the frame develops and their intentions/strategy revealed.

Ahem.

I just want to say what I said in my earlier post.  My squad members all had a great time in the recent SSO series - especially the last frame.  Every member who flew the last frame expressed their enjoyment.

In addition to that:

We took the option of Mossies/Tiffs and ditched the chance of a classier ride.  We achieved our objectives and we all got home safely.  We worked closely with another squad (56th) who complemented our effort by their brilliance and discipline.  After landing we offered to go 262 hunting but the CO very wisely sent us off to the Officer's Club.

The frame offered immersion and a chance of success and a chance of survival.  Those are the only 3 things that I ever ask for in Squad Ops.  :aok
I get really really tired of selective realism disguised as a desire to make bombers easier to kill.
