Anyone have any info on how many 8th Airforce bombers were shot down in 1943, and how many aircrew were killed?

Thanks for the replies. I think that chart shows total bomber losses for the 8th in WW2.

I haven't got a clue actually, the numbers seem to be too low to be aircraft, since one fighter ace can down up to 200 aircraft, it needs to be much more.

Those stats are total bomber losses for the 8th. I am looking just for 1943.

My book shows 1,036 aircraft losses for 8th Air Force for the year 1943. I'm assuming that is total aircraft (fighters and bombers).

Hey Davidpt40,

It case you want to divide it down further - All the Heavy Bombers of the 2nd Air Division, 8th AF were all B-24 LIBERATORS. The B-17's were in the 1st & 3rd Divisions.

Notice the lower numbers for the B-24's.

True, but there weren't only B-17's in the 1st and 3rd, also some Liberator squads joined the party. And I've seen some Marauders

Correct, after looking again the 3rd Air Division had several B-24 Groups but this was not till the very end of the war. I don't believe the 1st BD had any B-24 units.

I was refering to the "Heavies" only not the Medium Bombers.

Ah, I see.
Don't know about the 1st having Liberators either, might be tho
