I think that since the XP2600's are based solely on 333 FSB's that a PC2700/DDDR333 RAM would be best for them. At least that is what I am running and it runs great with my board.

He said low LATENCY is critical for the Athlons.  That's those memory performance numbers... 2 2 2 6,  2.5 3 3 7 etc etc.  Your 400MHz RAM will run at pretty low latencies when running at its below spec 333 MHz for the 2600.  And it gives you headroom for overclocking.

Did you get the BARTON 2600 or the NON-Barton 2600?

At any rate, if you run the memory Asynchronous (i.e. CPU FSB=333, Memory speed = 400 MHz) you WILL hurt your performance.

Performance order as I understand it for memory:
1) run SYNCHRONOUS speeds between memory and CPU
2) more FSB is better
3) lower latency is better.

But 2 & 3 can switch in importance.  I.E. running at CL2.5 at 400 MHz is better than CL2 at 333 MHz, but running CL2.5 at, say 345 MHz might be WORSE than running CL2 at 333 MHz.

Running CL2 at 400 MHz, is, of course, best of the combinations.  But if you push your FSB to, say 410 MHz, and  your latency drops to CL3.... go back to CL2 at 400MHz.

PS - instead of spending the bucks for an All-in-Wonder card, think about this:

http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduct.asp?description=14-122-132

cheap 9600Pro plus this card is cheaper and more "modular" for future vid card upgrades than an AIW card.

here is a page with over clocking the 2600+ w/thoroughbred core ...

http://www.techtastic.ca/reviews2/xp2600.html

the barton has a larger L-2 cache then the t-bred   512 vs 256kb
Ive seen some other good oc site for this but i dont have them earmarked here ...   try the amd forum for futher info and spec's

You can go pretty extreame with  a 2600+  but you have to bring out the h2O cooling to get it there .

And for those of you running Durons check this page out

http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/cpu/display/20030908004407.html

Its a mod for getting L2 cache of 256KB ! this turns it into a XP CPU ...    Ive got  a 1.0 ghz running at this right now
It seams stable so far ... day 1 , ill update this after a few more days of testing .

with my current X35T/X36F I plan to build me a multi-throttle
quadrant using my old discarded Thrustmaster WCS units
 and gameport-to-USB adaptors.

The two LAN ports is also a plus, although my current
ISP provides me with 4 static IP's so my LAN is simply
a 4-port hub connected to the ADSL modem and
my current 4 computers so I only need to use one
port right now. Room to grow :)

FWIW I've seen this board mentioned alot, in a positive
sense, in my wanderings on the web looking into
components for the system before I ordered it.

Whoops, just saw this.

Sound is good on the Deluxe version, although I'm not terribly picky about sound... I understand it's only average on the non-Deluxe version.

And you'll get 6 USB2 ports: 4 on the motherboard, and a plug for 2 more that you can mount to a PCI slot (mount included) or hook to front USB if you want (mount not included).

i built the system below recently for $1300.  No monitor or keyboard or mouse tho.
It holds rock solid 70fps in AH (thats my refresh rate).
Although it did dip to 55fps earlier today, but i had my sound go out so I think it was related to that.
If you can avoid that fricken windows purchase, you may save a bundle.  I paid $199.99  for a fresh install version of windows home.

WhiteHawk  I notice that youre running the stock 350watt ps on that ... My 3gig machine died because of the 350 ps the first time i oced it ..(bsod) I went to the antec 430  .. then added a old 200 watt to run the fans and water pump .

on my other pc's running generic 350watt ps's I have to pick and chose carefully some of them hold steady voltages some of them dont.

I do have a 350 running my asus A7N8X Deluxe 2400+ amd ,GF4 440 ,  Oced to 2.2 ghz .  its been stable so far ... but i dont think it will cut it if i had a high end video card in it ...

just a something to think about

yea..I am waiting for the opportunity to get a bigger ps.  I just tried to OC to 233 FSB, but no boot.  So I have it now OC'd from 200 to 210FSB.  I havnt a fricken clue what i am doing, but I guess the only way to learn is to try eh?  (Famous last words:lol )
Any advice for my system?  Or is the first step a new PS?
I read at the abit forums of people OC'ing p4 2.4 to 3.5 on the same set up as I have, except a larger PS.  And some prescription cooling,  my temp is OK.
On the little bit that I OC'd, i picked up about 150pts on the Dr HArdware benchmark test.  Sht, is a 420w PS the same across the board or is the antec's worth the $$$.  I went overbudget on the puter, but got extra stuff and went with quality all the way.
Oh, by the way, there is some concern about the IC7-Max3 VDIMM, when the voltage is set to 2.9 or higher??  Its all greek to me, but I defantaley dont want to roast my puter.

The Antec supplies are definately worth it, in my opinion.  The rail levels are really well thought out and the power is very clean and transient response time is about as fast as any supply will ever get.

For future reference, you could have saved bout $115 by buying the OEM version at the same time you bought your hardware.  I bought the full OEM Home for $85 and full OEM Pro for $135.  The big difference is that you don't get the manual (like anyone ever reads it anyway).

Yep,..MWave sells the OEM versions of W2K Pro and XP Pro for a lot less than the retail version.  Who needs a manual anyway?  Like they actually put any helpful information in the manual.

Ya..I figured i was Jumping the gun, I thought the $99 dollar one was the one for me, but that was just the upgrade.  I was so excited my puter powered up without a 'fizzzzzzle popp' I couldnt wait to get XP loaded so I just bought it.  It dont even have MS works in it:mad:
