Sorry for the long delay gents. I had a very busy weekend. I'll try to be more timely in the future.
First of all the roster. Make sure you check to see that I got your in-game and BBS names correct and that you are actually in the tournament or not as the case may be. The roster and the bracket are listed by in-game names so you'll want to reference this list to get your opponents BBs name to PM and arrange your duels. We ended with 55 players so nine will get a first round bye. If I've made any mistakes I won't have a chance to correct them until late tomorrow night.

I'm going to post the bracket here as the rules are too long and need to be posted by themselves. They follow in the next post. Please be sure to read and understand them.
Here's the first week's assignments. Good luck to all and most of all have fun.

And, as promised, the rules:.
- Brackets will be determined by random draw of names produced by a random number generator in MS Excel.
- If the number of players exceeds a full round I will work them into the bracket although they will have to fly one more round than other players. They will be chosen randomly and disbursed evenly through pre-selected slots in the bracket to achieve balance at the nearest bracket root(s).
- If a player changes their in-game or BBs name during the tournament they must either post that change in the bracket and results thread or PM me with the change.
- Duels must be arranged between the players by PM, IM, e-mail or other means to take place by noon CST/CDT Sunday following each bracket update (6 days).
- Duels will be best of three until the quarterfinal round. From the quarterfinal round forward all duels will be best of five.
- First duel plane selection will be assigned using a random number generator to select from all available fighter and fighter/attack aircraft (except the Me163 and Me262). This will be done individually for each set of duelers.
- During the elimination rounds the loser of each duel selects the aircraft for the next duel. This allows the loser to pick his/her best aircraft to get back into contention and if it goes three rounds each player will have had one plane selection. From the quarterfinals forward the player who is behind in the series chooses the next duel aircraft. This means they could choose as many as three times consecutively to try to get back into contention (they lose the first and second duels then win the third making it 1-2 and get to choose for the third time for instance). If the series becomes tied at any point then the loser of the last duel chooses.
- All duels will take place in the DA canyon area.
- All duels will be 25% fuel load out with player’s choice of gun package and convergence.
- All merges will be guns cold (no firing until you have passed your opponent's 3/9 line).
- All merges will be co-alt at 10K until within icon range at which point a merge break can begin. In addition all players shall observe a 10K ceiling and floor (within reason) at all times prior to the merge.
- Anything goes after the initial merge.
- In the case of a draw (both run out of fuel for instance) that duel will be re-fought using the same aircraft.
- In the case of a collision:
* If only one player collides (only one gets the collision message) the duel continues.
* If both players collide (both get the collision message) the duel immediately ends and will be re-started in the same planes.
- Ditching or bailing constitutes forfeiture of the duel.
- The intent is for players to remain in close proximity to one another (2-3K max). That said if at any time the players lose icon range on one another the duel ends immediately and will be re-started using the same planes. This should allow a dueler to simply turn away from a runner to nullify the duel.
- If an uninvited third party interrupts the duel the duel is immediately ended and will be re-started using the same plane. The dueling participants may move to another mutually agreed upon set of fields in the DA in this instance.
- Once one player has been shot down and the other receives a kill message the duel ends. There is no need to land.
- If a player disco's the duel will be re-fought in the same planes as soon as the discoing player re-logs. If he does not or is unable to re-log within 15 minutes he will lose the duel series by default. A second disco by the same player in a duel series will result in forfeiture of the remaining duels in that series.
- Both players will film all duels from take-off in case of a dispute. These films must be saved until at least noon on the Tuesday following the duel or until 48 hours after the end of any granted extension in case of a dispute. If a dispute arises then they must be saved until such dispute is settled.
- Films must be posted by the winning player for all duels from the quarter final round forward for the viewing pleasure of the community. Films may be posted during earlier rounds if both participants agree.
- The losing player will post in this thread after the duel series in the following format:

The loser posting is a means to verify that the results are uncontested. If the loser hasn't posted by the deadline then the winner may post the results but they will be deemed contested and films will be required to verify the win.
- This information must be posted by no later than 12:00 noon CST/CDT (as appropriate) Sunday following the posting of the updated bracket so that I can get the brackets updated and re-posted on Sunday afternoon/evening.
- If a player does not show within 15 minutes of the arranged time they forfeit the series. In that case the winner by default must post a message confirming the arranged duel time and a screenshot of the DA roster showing that the opponent is a no show no later than 12:00 noon CDT Sunday following posting of the updated bracket.
- If a duel cannot be arranged between two players each player will have a chance to post the circumstances in the Bracket and Results thread prior to the posting deadline. If only one player posts and it is clear that they are making an attempt to arrange their duel then that player will advance, provided their post was at least 48 hours prior to the round closing deadline. If both players post and it is clear that the issue lies with only one player then the player not at fault will advance. If it is unclear which player is at fault, if neither player posts, or if a single player posts inside the 48 hour window then a random draw will determine which player advances.
- Each player has the opportunity to review films of their duels for potential rules violations. If a player suspects a rules violation they can petition the review committee via PM. Both regular and alternate committee members, the tournament administrator and the opposing player must be copied on the petition (the review committee members, alternates and administrator are listed in the roster). This petition must be filed by the regular deadlines. The player must include a posting of their own films with the petition along with a description of what they believe the rules violation to be. An initial determination will be made within 36 hours of the petition. If the review committee finds sufficient evidence to further their investigation a committee spokesperson will contact the opposing player for their films of the duels. These films must be submitted within 36 hours of the committee's request or the duel(s) in question will be forfeit by that player. The review committee will then make a final determination no later than 36 hours after receiving those films. The review committee may overturn posted results. If a clean determination of a winner cannot be made the review committee will determine an appropriate course of action which could include a rematch, a random draw or the expulsion of one or both players from the tournament. These stated actions are not intended to limit the actions that the review committee might recommend. The review committee's determination will be final. In any case a final determination will be posted by no later than midnight Thursday in a worst-case scenario. If a final determination is not posted by noon Wednesday the winner of the dispute and their next opponent will automatically be given a 48 hour extension of their next duels, which must then be completed no later than noon Tuesday of the following week. If a determination is made by noon Wednesday the normal noon Sunday deadline will be in effect. Because this could delay both the winner's and his/her next opponent's ability to arrange their next duel it is in the best interest of everyone that the players reach an agreeable conclusion to their duels on their own.
- Violations of the official tournament rules as stated could constitute grounds for expulsion from the tournament.
- Any player caught breaking the rules twice in any tournament will be automatically ejected from the tournament.
- The initial bracket will be posted on Sunday, September 26 and each Sunday thereafter until a winner has been determined.

What they all said. The random number generator also assigns open slots for byes with the exception that you'll notice there's a buy stemming from each quarterfinal for eight plus one more. Those slots are marked to not be filled. I do that to balance the bracket and not have all the byes lumped into one section. Each bye slot within each quarterfinal root is randomly assigned then the last bye slot is randomly assigned from all available slots. Then I just start with the first open slot and let excel tell me who to put there then move on to the next. The random number generator also assigns planes from a numbered list.
Of course the number generator sometimes gives me the same player again. In that case I just generate a new random number until I get a new player. If I go 10 trys without getting a new player I re-sort the list to get rid of those already assigned then reset the generator to a smaller range of possible values and start assigning again from where I left off.

I intend to as much as I can. We prolly fought for a couple of hours tonight all told, had a great time and tons of good fights. I figure if I keep fighting guys that beat me maybe one day I'll get good at this stuff.

Yeah, stick in the DA with the regulars. Some, like Bat, are better at teaching than others, but there's always good challenging fights.
Hopefully I'll be flying next weekend if I have a computer delivered and internet hooked up in the new place. I've been sitting here piecing together and pricing out rigs on newegg for the last hour or two. I've been gone long enough that you'll have to teach me how to start my engine. :)

Well he can't post as he is banned at the moment and will be for a while longer. As much verification as I can give. The only reason I could see needing to re duel would be DrBone doesn't have film of the fm2 duel.

We may have an update in the SEraider/Vino/ToneyJoey love triangle. :D
I've given SEraider and Vino until 10:00 PM Tuesday to try to get their duel in. Evidently they were in contact and had a match set for Sunday that Vino missed. If they can't get it in then Vino will forfeit per his request, SEraider will advance and, in either case, a new first duel plane will be assigned.
DrBone, if you don't find perdweeb to refight that duel, given the extenuating circumstances of perdweeb's absence from the BBs and in order to keep the tournament moving along, post the 109 film and convince Kazaa to vouch for you.

the rules state that the one who is not victorious ( the losing player ) is supposed to post / announce the results to this thread
the only time the winner is to post the results is if the loser does not post them by the deadline which is 12 noon CST on Sundays ( or in circumstances as if someone may have been blocked from posting to the BBS perhaps??? )
so many of the winning players keep posting the results immediately after they win, and that is wrong...... if you win, give the losing opponent enough time to post the results or if something is wrong, the rules explains how to go about handling any disputes
and the films are requested, to make sure there is no disputes because the losing player did not post
people should re-read the rules, it would make it a lot easier for everyone....
is there a reason Krupinski is not posting? if there is that needs to be PM'ed to BaldEagl, and BaldEagl will present it to the review commitee.....

Is it not possible to ask for a redo? I was getting some major lag while fighting JOACH1M in the 109G2 round.
Lag does not always relate to internet connection, shortly after I logged I was spiking 100% CPU usage.

I believe it is up to each player to maintain their equipment sufficient to compete, and that an equipment failure by one player is no fault of the other. Furthermore, any such claims of failure open a can of worms in terms of disputes. Therefore the following rule will be added for this and future tournaments:
- If a player experiences technical and/or equipment issues the duel will continue. After the duel that player will be allowed fifteen minutes to correct such issues and re-log to complete any remaining duels in the series. If he does not or is unable to re-log within 15 minutes he will lose any remaining duels by default.

I hope its OK that I add my thoughts here. I fully support and agree with BE with regard to the rule he's added above. We need a clearly defined policy to handle this type of issue, my comments to BE reflect EXACTLY what he wrote.
However, their is always a counter point. I know Krup and personally I wouldn't want to win a fight on a "TKO". This is not aimed in anyway at JOACH1M, simply my personal thoughts. Now I am far far from the top of the dueling heap so for me flying in these was (and will be) a fun event....but Batty and all the guys who do cross props with me in the DA know I'll break off a fight I think started unfairly. I want to win...but not at any cost. So while I fully support the rule my hope is that if their is any genuine doubt in a participants mind with regard to A GENUINE TECHNICAL ISSUE proper consideration is given based on your "gut feel" of events as a matter of good sportsmanship :salute :airplane: :joystick: :salute

BaldEagl & all the Review Committee please ask that noone else post on this matter......

Krup always has intardnet issues. He got booted from Koth when he was in the final 2 at the end of a round with sunsfan. Sounds like an internet issue that needs resolving to me.

That was all you (both good and bad). You were buried under Twizzty's nose and it's just a question of timing. Either your gonna get a point blank shot, give a point blank shot or meet in the middle. Lag was enough that you collided and he didn't. You had control of the fight at that moment and just didn't convert, been there many many times. :salute

Oh my. It seems each week I get later and later. I've had a lot going on IRL lately. The review committee probably thinks I've disappeared during the week but I do keep checking in and, since they seem to have a good handle on things, I just let them go.
This week went off much better. Everyone got their duels in. Now JOACH1M and Krupinski, aren't you glad you just went ahead with the rematch? It sounds like you both had fun. There would have been a lot less BBs drama and a LOT fewer PM's in my inbox had you just done that from the beginning.
Dodger, I hear you collided. The rules clearly define what happens in case of collision. Don't take it too hard. Come back next time and try not to make that same mistake. I did the same thing last tourney.
From my own perspective, I was dreading having to face batfink knowing he was a good flyer but I felt I held my own so I was satisfied. Our last fight went 3:30 from the time we crossed paths, most of that in a rolling scissors. I know where I made my mistake and will be ready next time. :D
In the only official business of the round J3EWNAH advances by forfeit (he PM'd me rather than posting here) and Sunsfan is now Suns in-game.

hehehe, 90lbs draw is not that bad, but repeated use puts a strain on the shoulders and especially the wrists and elbows! Consider that the English longbows found on the wreck of the Mary Rose weighed in at 190lbs draw even after being underwater for hundreds of years.

It would be extraordinarily easier to film the fights and just go off the honor system. If there is a dispute, the pilot who disputes can review his film and see if his dispute has merit. If it does then he can log a complaint with BE and go from there. That way you don't have to review film for every single fight between vets who obviously aren't contesting the results. Waste of time/effort/sanity reviewing films unless there is a huge cash prize involved. Regardless of who posts the results (All these scandelous bbs duelers going around posting false results to be asses... i know) if the loser doesn't dispute within 48 hours it stands. Do yourself a favor and make it easier on yourself be.

I wouldn't say countless infractions but we have had several instances in each tournament where a winner has posted results in questionable circumstances. While all of these to date have been in elimination rounds the rules are there to run a fair and impartial tournament as well as to streamline the decision making process.
I'm not a big fan of rules but over time they've expanded to include more and more circumstaces that have cropped up. At the end of the day all I want is for everyone involved to say that I ran the tournament fairly and didn't play favorites. Do you think I really enjoy pouring over every post between updates seeing who did and didn't post and what they said and when to determine if they should advance or forfeit or deal with the mounds of PMs I get during rounds?
I don't think that given the fact that we hold everyone else to the rules that they should suddenly be discarded in the later rounds.
I'm working 12-13 hour days with an hour or more of commute time to make ends meet. I have about two hours of free time when I get home at night and if things don't click to allow me to update on Sunday nights then my limited time for any type of relaxation gets eaten into. So Sunday didn't work out this week so here I am Tuesday only to find out I'll probably be back each night the rest of the week to see if things got settled. It might be funny to you but it's not to me.

BE thanks for all the effort. Perhaps someone could pick it fromyou and give you a breather. I will consider it, but perhaps a more experienced veteran will step up first.
As for the desputed fights due to the loser not posting, Perhaps a time limit of 24 hours is enough. If a player really has a dispute, they should say right away. Perhaps the frustration of losing causes some to avoid the thread for a few days. No reason you should have to wait for them to return to find out they had no dispute.
As for my match with Suns. I guess we're waiting to hear from JB11, but might I suggest you assign a plane? I'm willing to fight Suns, and if something changes the outcome and I have to have a re-do with JB11, I'll just re-do it. I'm perfectly fine with more duels. :aok

I am nothing more than slightly amused at the excessive judging effort that goes into these things when there is nothing on the line. I think official postings and requiring confirmations are just silly. No one signing up for these things is trying to troll the tournament. If someone posts the results, those were the results. If the tard is lying (for god knows why) don't you think you'd hear about it?
Also, you might find some more rest and sanity And a better bracket if you drew these back to twice a year.

I can post I guess. I haven;t figured if you can actually load a file to this thread or just a link. I don't have a mediafire or any other such account to link to. But inthe interest of interest, I will try to figure it out and post.
I did not do very well against Suns style. He sort goes vertical and stays there until the planes are shuddering out of control, a condition he controls much better than I did. All of the fights were me listing to the blaring stall buzzer and watching my plane shake all over the place. A hopeless frustating feeling, as I watched him creep over me or onto my six o'clock. But it seemed the right place to be in reaction to what he was doing, so I give him Kudos for dictating and controlling the terms of the fight, in a way I had no answer for. :salute
So I will try to post, and then all can see.

First of all I'd really like to see all the winners post their films from this last round per the rules. Lots of people follow the bracket waiting for this point so they can watch the films. And don't forget during the next two rounds.
Also, I see some forgot the quarterfinals forward were best of five. They are. Also don't forget the plane selection rules are modified at this point. Check the rules if you don't know about it.

Oh they were down dirty alright lol. Lots of stalling and missed shots. I don;t think those were the best fights we could both put up. I ll blame mine on being tired lol.

S! Grizz, check out round four in the films. Suns had me for a 3-1 victory when I blacked out but some angel saved me, lost half a plane to his guns there. Suns flew better than me tonight as can be seen on the films. I only won the 109 rounds due to his engine dying both times.

I don't see any sense in delaying this since I had a little time while having my morning coffee.
Congrats to both batfinkv and dedalos for making the final! WTG!
Before I post the final match-up I went back and did some checking. Unfortunately I accidently deleted the lower half of one of the brackets while cleaning out my photobucket account and didn't want to take the time to reconstruct it so there's one person I'm missing somewhere here but in five tournaments we've had 27 different people make the quarterfinals out of a total of 40 possible. Of those six people have appeared in the quarter-finals multiple times for a combined 17 appearances. Only two of those six have won; JB11 twice and Grizz once.
Bat's made the most quarter-final appearances of anyone with four and finished in the runner-up position in the first bracket to moot. Will this finally be bat's day? On the other hand ded's never made the quarterfinals (unless he's the missing person from that deleted lower half of that bracket) and has taken a run all the way to the final. Can he take it all the way? Well, the point of this is: On any given Sunday.

As promised here's the final bracket.
