Version 2.24 Patch 0 Changes
======================

This version completely revises the ground vehicle system and alters mouse function within the game.

NOTE:  The mouse cursor will only appear and function when the clipboard is active or when the radio bar is open.

Your mouse now defaults to mouse look when you are piloting a plane or to gunner control when you are in a gunner position.  You can toggle mouse look with <Shift M> or disable or enable it to default on in the Options/Preferences/View Options menu.  This may not be defaulted on if you have modified your View Options in the past.  You can also set the sensitivity of your mouse look in this menu.

Gunner positions can now be controlled with either the mouse or the joystick.  Both controls are live at the same time so you don't need to switch modes to switch controls.

Vehicles are now controlled with the W, A, S, and D keys.  This allows you to be able to completely control the vehicle while manning a gunner station.  A and D controls left and right turns and W and S controls acceleration and deceleration.  Holding down the S key will also shift into reverse.  Pressing <Shift W> will accelerate your vehicle to full speed without having to hold down the W key.  Pressing <Shift S> will bring your vehicle to a full stop.  Gear shifts take place automatically.

All tanks with turrets and tanksights now have a commander's position in place of the driver's position.  The commander's position can use the mouse or joystick to slew the turret.  Vehicles with commander's positions can only attach a second player as an observer and not a gunner.

Added new tank sights.  The German and Russian tanks are using sights with adjustable reticles.  You can dial in the range of the sight using the C and V keys or the mouse wheel if mapped.  Different tank sights have different magnifications and field of views.  Most tank sights are a single fixed power but some tanks (Tiger, Panther, Firefly) have a second maginification range that can be toggled using the zoom (Z) key.

NOTE:  Your mouse buttons will not be default mapped if you have remapped your joystick in the past.  You can map your mouse buttons in the control mapper.

NOTE:  The vehicle, gunner, and chute keymaps have been reset to the new default configurations.  If you remapped any of these keyfunctions in the past, you will need to remap them again.

All keys from your flight and vehicle keymaps are now active while you are gunning.

The gun modes for the large ship guns and shore battery are now controlled with the <Q>, <Shift Q>, and <CTRL Q> keys.  Sea and Land mode firing adjustments are now made through the W, A, S, and D keys while the mouse and joystick just control your view but not where your guns fire.

Tanks with coaxial machineguns and hull mg's no longer have a gunner position for the hull.  It is instead slaved to the coax gun and will fire whenever the coax is fired within the hull gun's field of fire.

The Panther and Tiger now have reversing tracks that allow them to pivot in place.  Just hold down the A or D key with the engine running while you are stopped.

Updated the title screen art.  Thanks to Cactus for his winning submission!

Updated the shape of the A6M2.  Thanks to Greebo for providing the skin.

Added the A6M3 Model 22.  Thanks again to Greebo for providing the skin.

Updated the shape of the C-47.  Hat trick to Greebo.

Updated the M3 shape.  Added some new loadouts that allow you to configure the M3 as a 75mm Gun Motor Carriage.

Fixed a damage mapping bug in the F2B pilot.

Fixed a damage mapping bug in the Panther's treadwell.

Fixed various damage mapping bugs in the M8.

Fixed a damage mapping bug in the Panzer IV.

Fixed a damage mapping bug on the SdKfz 251's engine.

Changed the rate of fire on the M4A3(76).

Added a rocket and drop tank loadout to the Typhoon.

Added weight and drag to the Typhoon rocket rails.

Added a loadout with smoke shells to the LVT(A)-4.

Reduced dispersion of coaxial machine guns on tanks.

Increased lifespan of vehicle .30 cal machine guns.

Fixed a small invisible sinkhole in a town shape.

Fixed a shape bug on the Lancaster when a flap was destroyed.

Reconfigured B-24, B-17, and B-25 bomb bays so that all bombs now show on the bomb racks.

Added 2000lb bomb loadout to B-17.

Reconfigured various hangar loadout shapes and labels.

Fixed a tailwheel graphics issue on the Bf 110G, B5N, and the SBD.

Fixed a shadow bug on the 190F8 and Il-2.

Fixed an issue with the vehicle hangar that could cause a phantom collision.

Added turret sounds to tanks.

Fixed a Z fighting issue with the taxi way on the large airfield.

Calibrated Spitfire XIV airspeed indicator.

Adjusted collision volumes on Pacific tile set vegetation.  Made some of the smaller bushes non-collidable.

Fixed ammo load discrepencies on the Tiger and Firefly.

The Il-2 has been switched to an attack plane only.  You can no longer use external view in it or log bomber sorties.

Fixed an issue with the hangar ordnance labels turning grey and being hard to read when using a machine with a low end video chip.

Updated web help link to go to the right place.

Fixed an issue that would cause films and screenshots to take a long time to write to your hard drive if you had a large number of films or screenshots in your directory.

The in-game mouse cursor now uses the mouse sensitivity settings in Windows.

Trooops no longer disappear beneath certain terrain features.

Added a test sound button to the advanced sound page.

Added a sound slider for game volume when you are transmitting on voice.  This slider is in the voice preferences menu labeled as "Record Effects Volume".  This can keep your game sounds from bleeding into your voice transmissions and degrading their quality.

Fields no longer reset to original ownership when the war is won.

Added a host option to load a new terrain if the war has not been won within a certain amount of time.

Added an optional new voice compressor that can be selected on the host for trials.

All flight and vehicle key controls are now always available while you are gunning.

Splash screen music can now be replaced by placing a title0.mp3 file in your sounds subfolder.

Spoke with HiTech himself a few minutes ago and they are working very diligently on fixing things. Apologies to Dale and the community for my previous post made in haste. Some of us tend to get easily bent out of shape in an instant when for whatever reason, can't log on to get our fix be it a problem on their end or ours as users. We players sometimes forget all the hard work and efforts made by the men and women of HiTech Creations who bring us our favorite game/addiction. Salute to them for their contributions and for us players, patients, patients, patients. The issues will be resolved in due time.

kovel, when you right click the executable...go to properties then under the compatibility tab there is a checkbox for "run as administrator"...that makes it permanent.

I dl'd it, fiddled with my administrator privileges, and it worked okay for me.  Didn't even lose my stick settings.

FYI

99 times out of a hundred when I am dl'ing a new patch or update I copy and paste my stick settings to my desktop just in case.

Pic please for those of us stuck at work for a couple more hours, good sir!

This is nothing short of a massive patch for AH, should of been a 3.0 or 2.8.0, tons of new content and lots of already existing content that got reworked.  And then there's the new vehicle control system and other small pieces of candy (B-17 + 2kers = awesomeness.  LVT + Smoke shells = brilliant!).  Gonna be at least two solid weeks before I will of been able to adjust myself and try everything out.  Thank you HTC!   :airplane:

lets see the pros and cons about the update

pros:

: new tank sights

:can turn in place on some tanks

:can use the "test" sound

:can change music

: alot of other small fixes

cons:

: if you use mouse your screwed you have to recalibrate every flight
: auto select mode in flight dose not work w/ mouse
:have to run AH as administrator

"funny things"

:plane 188

now their are more pros than cons but the cons make the game unplayable

still its better than no update at all. why you might say because i can bet you 100$ HTC will have a update by Friday and probably sooner

Read the new improvements and you'll probably see why the mappings are gone.

Quite a laundry list of changes.

Land Mode and Sea Mode are different now too........

I've saved my mappings in 3 places on my network. Restore em, switch arenas, mappings gone again...Must be the mapping fairy screwing with my head? :bhead

I'll revise my statement quite a bit.  I do understand that they work hard to deliver a quality product.  I do understand that they try their best and have a vision that most of us do not know.  But, this is a HUGE change.  Despite what the change notes said, I had to re-do most of the key mappings I had, I had to recalibrate everything, using guns now is going to take a LOT of re-learning both from stationary and GV guns, I have not been able to figure out, or perhaps it's not possible, to drive a GV like I used to using my joystick.

I still think this is the greatest Air combat game around, but this last patch, really had me scratching my head.

From a customer point of view. If its not broke don't fix it applies here. Give the customer the chance to at least vote on major changes like this. I really cant stand the new gv system. Very few gvers in the game that I've spoken to like the changes, we would have rather had the tank flipped by a bush problem fixed than this major change. Not happy about uber tiger guys getting an even bigger leg up now either.  So many probs with this new system I wont waste time pointing them out everyone who plays should know them already.

Ps. uber tiger guys: sitting on concrete at base shooting incoming tanks from d5000 or greater.

That is because it is historically accurate. The spit16 has an amazing climb rate and kills me every other sortie, but it is historically accurate.

That is why the tiger is perked.

Post by: Turk on April 25, 2011, 08:42:30 PM
Ok first off one of the fun things about AH was the fact that it was realistic.....now need to get an M1A1 abrams manual to understand the HUD for a tank.  LVT gun site goes no further than 850 yds will not zoom with c,v keys.  LVT quit moving for no reason while i had set the shift W key it just stopped with no key or control input.  new tank options with fixed site no zoom make it almost impossible to site in, so do we shoot from the top where the hud is and search for a target there then jump in site and hope we can see it?

I don't get it....where is the beta arena and the loyal game testers who provide feedback.  I appreciate the work that went into it but don't you think it wise to have people try it first to get a feedback for possible game play issues before making all your paying customers change everything they know?  Having played games since chuck yeagers flight sims i have seen them get more complicated than they are worth playing.

Respectfully
Turk

Having to right click and start as an admin in W7 is a bit of a PITA but I'll live.

Went into ava tonight and my sight wouldn't center (it stuck about 15 degrees down) TIR left, right, up, down, etc inputs were accepted.  Logged off and back on and got that sorted.  Offline skins are working, in game they're not, new zeke doesn't respond to roll input, and I don't do the whole GV thing so I can't comment on it.

Dear Sir,

I enjoy this Sim very much and i understand there are problems with new patches etc.... but wtf. The game has come a long way.
I'm with Turk on this one, why am i paying to be a test monkey?! Yes that's my own fault for playing for 6 years. i would be happy and I'm sure many others that play this game would enjoy and welcome the option to have the old controls and the new controls; basically let the people who pay you have a choice on something like this. what's the point of having a joystick and rudders if you can only use it half the time?

I like everyone else from time to time have a gripe, but this is out of control. I've never had a problem with support and welcome new ideas and changes from Hi Tech creation. But I don't think you'll be getting my $15 a month to be a test monkey much longer. at least try testing on a small scale before a full release?

also the eny thing works about 2% of the time but it's total crap. log on in an evening and look at the two arenas. all bish and knit in one arena rooks in the other, and each arena is being "horded" like it was years ago. i don't like paying to fly c205's everyday because of eny. i can see it if the cap eny would be 10, but 25 almost everyday?! Before one wise guy says "switch arenas";I pay to play with my friends and have a good time and if my friends are in one arena that's where I'll be.

I'm sure there will be a solution as there always is, and i will give it time. but i don't think i am going to give it much more time.

I'm sure they tested in house before the release, as well as having a number of players doing some testing for them, but even so there must be THOUSANDS of computer combination out there. How can anyone be ready for ALL of them? Everyone just needs to take a step back and give them a couple of days to get the bugs worked out.

OHHH MY GOD!!!! You have to learn something new???? Might as well go out and shoot yourself now!

I guess you said it well..  $15 a month or not, why am I paying to be a test monkey?  Wouldn't have put it that way, but fits.

Well take your $15 and go have a pizza. Eat slow so it last the whole month.  LOL!!!!

But I don't think you'll be getting my $15 a month to be a test monkey much longer. at least try testing on a small scale before a full release?
ever buy a computer game from any of the big game developers that was perfect out of the box? nope...and the patches usually take several months to get out...you're a "test monkey even" with the operating system you're running on that computer you're using...didn't think about that did you?

in 60 days the changes will be a memory and everyone will be having fun whining about other things...give it time.

also the eny thing works about 2% of the time but it's total crap. log on in an evening and look at the two arenas. all bish and knit in one arena rooks in the other, and each arena is being "horded" like it was years ago. i don't like paying to fly c205's everyday because of eny. i can see it if the cap eny would be 10, but 25 almost everyday?! Before one wise guy says "switch arenas";I pay to play with my friends and have a good time and if my friends are in one arena that's where I'll be.

I'm sure there will be a solution as there always is, and i will give it time. but i don't think i am going to give it much more time.

Respectfully     -Harp
if you're so called friends aren't willing to switch with you...then they aren't very good friends are they? and it's not a matter of they shouldn't have to, it's a matter of they will if they feel the same way you do.

in the mean time have one of these and relax

I don't get it....where is the beta arena and the loyal game testers who provide feedback.  I appreciate the work that went into it but don't you think it wise to have people try it first to get a feedback for possible game play issues before making all your paying customers change everything they know?

I enjoyed the new tank sights.

I just disabled the mouse look around and used my joystick and hats as usual for guns.

Interface will take some getting used to.

Some minor bugs that will be fixed soon.

So far, all I hear is this...

Well the issue is the arena cap prevents friends from playing and we do switch arenas to play together.  So moot point on your part.

Now to other problems....played at 7 CST now at 10CST get on and all controllers have lost their x,y,z axis.  Go to reset and only allows Radio1.  Logged off and back on was able to set the throttle, but then to joystick and now back to only radio1.  Opps, now look throttle has lost its mapping as well....so i guess we were meant to play with keyboard and mouse then?  Again lost of issues with this update....not many good.

I'm not sure if I should post this in the bug report yet, but I noticed that if I change the title music and then go into an arena, while the terrain is loading the original title music starts to play and crashes the game.  I removed the title0 file, and had no problems after that.

Anyone else notice this?

That being said....

Gentlemen,

Always amazes me to see the howls after new big updates. Particularly from those that have been around a while.

By now anyone who has been here a couple of years should know the routine.

New update or version comes out. Report whats not working right and usually within 24 hours patches start showing up to fix them. No need to scream, stomp your feet, whine, howl, or cry.

I fail to understand why we go through this silliness with people who should know better how its going to play out every single time there is an update.

Simply report the problems.Show a little patience. And watch with wonder and amazement them getting resolved.

For whatever disagreements any of us may have with how certain aspects of the game is done. Some I agree with and some I dont.

There is no way I could even remotely agree with anyone who doesnt think that HTC busts their butts to  be forthcoming with any needed patches so that the game runs correctly for the maximum amount of people as soon as possible.

As for changes to old ways of doing things. Look at it as a new game. You finally have something new to learn and explore rather then the same old same.

Lighten up folks

ch rudder pedals do not work, no rudder even using the keys (cannot turn my plane on the ground or yaw in the air), g15 keybinds for coms don't work, center view for trcak ir 5 in my case the delete key will not center my view in game. It is as if the game ignors and/or blocks inputs from these devices

I'm sure they tested in house before the release, as well as having a number of players doing some testing for them, but even so there must be THOUSANDS of computer combination out there. How can anyone be ready for ALL of them? Everyone just needs to take a step back and give them a couple of days to get the bugs worked out.

1. MJSmoke jumped into a field gun last night and couldnt get out. Everyone else could though...not sure what happened there, but e had to redownload the whole game.

-1 that was really gamey, the new sights are an excellent historically accurate addition, and cleary illustrate why some tanks were more feared than others IRL. In the same way as correctly modelled ballistics and traverse rates for the different guns and rounds are. :aok

Set one hat switch as Accelerate, decelerate, turn left and turn right. This lets me drive the vehicle with my left thum on one of the hat switches on my throttle. I then work the gun with teh Flight stick.

So easy
Title: Re: New Version
Post by: Vinkman on April 26, 2011, 09:06:12 AM
The changes to teh GVs worked just fine for me. I had no problem operting anything and it looked great.

I thought the view system was different from the gun system. I was in a t-34 last night to check it out, and when in the commander position, my Track IR didn't work. To look around I had to use the joystick and the gun followed. Am I suposed to be able to look around without the gun turning? Pyro implied you were suposed to be able to look around without the gun following. Did I miss-understand?

 :salute

Thanks.

Set one hat switch as Accelerate, decelerate, turn left and turn right. This lets me drive the vehicle with my left thum on one of the hat switches on my throttle. I then work the gun with teh Flight stick.

If you do that, and press, say, up and to the right, will AH recognize both inputs at the same time - i.e., will it accelerate and turn right? IIRC it recognizes extra hat switches as 4-way rather than 8-way, but will it recognize the diagonal directions as multiple inputs?

All-in-all I like the new system for GVs, there are just some bugs to work out.

I have tried all the so called "fixes", but to no avail. In my 6 years of playing this game, I have never had this problem before. So, this IS officially the worst patch EVER!!  lol

Yes it will accelerate and turn left if you pull move the hat swtch diagonally. Also for what ever reason, maybe Patch 1, but my TrackIR worked from teh Commander position again. So I could look around without hte gun moving and then move the gun with the joystick. System is fine. I too would prefered if they ADDED steering and acceleration and braking to the pedals as an option, but driving the tank with one hat switch is easy peasy.  :salute

Got in the Panther yesterday and love the new site and how it worked. I don't know if the c,v funtion (elevation change) is assignable through the game interface, but I can map it because I have a programable hat switch, so that was also a piece of cake.

I like it. Great job.  :salute
