Title: "muppet pass" achievement
Post by: Franz Von Werra on February 24, 2013, 06:24:42 AM
"muppet pass achievement"
This move is as old as dogfighting, but the first time I ever heard it named, it was called a "muppet pass."
Enemy overshoots player, player shoots and kills enemy before any next maneuvers.
Only way to register it, I suppose,  would be if overshooter first pinged the player.

Two planes: dodobird and muppet.

so, if Dodobird pings Muppet, and then within 10 seconds, Muppet pings Dodobird, and gets credit for the kill of Dodobird, then it's a "muppet pass" achievement.
Maybe have it declared even after 10 seconds if say Dodobird lost a whole wing or whole tail, but didn't bail out for more than 10seconds later. So somthing fatal within 10seconds would award the achievement.

I witnessed Grizz (in a 262) do this to Drbone (in a La7) a year back or so. Wizer may have been there, not sure. Neither of them reffered to it as a "muppet pass" though heh.
A few of us were trying to land, not sure who had killed DrBone earlier, but he had come back in an La7 after the 262!

It takes a heck of a lot of Situational Awareness and coordination to guage where the enemy is going to be and line up nose to that vector to hook him as he goes by... not easy. You're looking out back window, and guaging where he's going to be in your front window, then see him out side window... etc... then fire and boom.
Ten seconds is probably too much time, it happens faster than that... You guys be the judge? five seconds?

Not a muppet pass

If anything I would call it a Levi/Wldthng/Mane pass

These days it is common as muck, but 10 years ago it was rare

Its not supposed to be when like normal dogfighting. It's more when Dodobird is going say at least 30% faster speed atleast. Like Dodobird more or less 'Bouncing' or 'Picking' the muppet. This is why i was cutting the time.
10 seconds is a normal overshoot kill. Add the factor that Dodobird's speed is 30% faster than Muppet?

Seems like this could slow down the game if the program is constantly checking 5 seconds and speeds. hmm

I'm pretty sure it's doing more than that millions of times a second already :)

I think it was actually called a "muppet shot" when someone saw me do it! I don't remember who said it, was years back. "that was a muppet shot," said.

For me its rare... no idea your skillz or what what. As stated, its even worse because the 'must be pinged first'... say 6 seconds between 'he pings you' and 'you kill him.'
Again, trick is to hook em before he extends away...

Post a footage if its soooo common! Bunch per flight? Lets see em! I'm waiting... someone help em out?  :D

La7 dives on seemingly defenseless and damaged yak9.

There should be some sort of time limit.....maybe a 10 second window after last hits landed by the attacker/overshooter and the hits from the plane that was overshot.

"Muppet pass" otherwise known as a "barrel roll defense".

Was a Great shot I recall it like it happen yesterday.

Grizz has been the only ever to make unbelievable shots from the most outrageous ranges.

I have not seen much of Grizz on here then again I have not been around either send my best wishes to him.  :salute :salute
Is it the one in this film:

At about 1:14?
:salute

You know, he made some great shots, but the man missed lots too.  He hasn't played though since HiTech made the Mk108 un-lazer-like at longer distances (It has always "dropped", it used to not deviate at all though other than to drop down, but ever since it now also adds some random displacement and at greater distances, no more Grizz....  ( :ahand :headscratch: )

I concur, the humping is strong with this one.

Thank you, Buzz Killington.

I find it very odd that Gri..., err Red Bull hasn't posted in this thread yet.   :noid  :devil

I never heard of this occuring.  When was the MK108 apparently "nerfed"?

It still seems pretty potent to me: http://youtu.be/frar8uSpB1M

p.s. this move is old as dirt and is hardly idiosyncratic enough to deserve a special name

lol
2 of those were/are muppets.. the 3rd was just a trainer in his trainer plane.. :bolt:

and babalon, the 30mm was not nerfed or changed in anyway affecting if grizz plays the game.. most of his shots were inside 400 with the majority of those inside 200d..

fixed.

hehe you're reminding me of how fuzzy my memory is..  you may be correct.. maybe he was with us while we were the twin engine devils.. maybe a short period as aom.. it is all in the splendor of antiquity... hehe

never heard it called a Muppet pass... always an overshoot or reversal..

but i will admit i like the idea of that name being an achievement.. haha

If it was to be called a muppet pass achievement it should surely be only with tater armed birds?

WT was muppet when I first joined AOM. He wasn't in TED.

Name of achievemnt?
Call it whatever HTC likes, suggested sound right to me. Its more than just a revesral though, its an 'instant payback' kill-shot also... like nobody's business! heh.

Nerfed?
What about all those posts with screenys and films of taters hitting stuff for no apparent damage? Were 'duds' introduced to expain these occurances? fixed? or still happen?

Aiming!
About taters anways, there was a thread that had some diagrams of where taters are in the gunsight at which ranges, had a curve graph, with ingame target dartboard thing too.  Was a few of these, for different convergence settings... one of which was set for 650 convergence. Post the link if remember name of thread please! An hour off line pratice with the dartboard targets would probably help anyones game.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I don't feel any Achievement should be named after an existing squadron or person.

For example, someone had suggested the 'Capt Dell Achievement' that is awarding by driving more than 25 miles to take a base. Since Capt Dell has passed on, this is a good suggestion (if a historical based name/description isn't available).

I would love to see the captain dell achievement.

Of course, I will probably be the first to score it.

Well I made this film when I saw someone say it was a barrel roll defence but now I see it's just some pisstake move? I do hope you're not serious. no wait, I do. I do hope so.

Grizz grizz grizz in the 152, only fester would catch me. Grizz I never had problems shooting down, nice fella but why does he torture himself ... or did with that boring ufo craft. I don't know, video from 2009 when it had good guns I suppose? I can't hit toejam with anything but wing mounted 20mm. and a tater here n there. nuless this thrustmaster stick is the true true. mabe I'll stop ki-84ing sin... no. never. but if it's a smooth stick I'm gonna have to pla arounid with tater planes more.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eLlhUQQG-vQ&feature=youtu.be

The sads film to me looks like a move where you're just waiting to die, or came back from being afkand hit the trigger in panic. How is that even a move? there's no movement. It's terrible in practical terms but funny it be.
If anyone ever attempts this against me I think I'm just gonna have to attempt landing on their canopy. I wonder if that's a viable collision attack now ! just gentle nudge them into the ground.
but they haven't even updated the typhie cockpit after a decade so I don't have my hopes up.

Looks fun.. and looks like you have to be the drunkest mouthbreather to die to it let alone not get the kill when someone flies off like that.

clearly I've been trolled. gg.

It was a "move" but only as much as missing half a wing will allow you to do.

He ended up with the exact same damage to his plane.
