Title: Midway
Post by: Moelders on January 03, 2012, 10:30:22 AM
Background: Midway had to pass the entrance test for a certain squad; I am told that the task he was given by this other squad was to kill 2 TG in one sortie...he employed known tactics but unfortunately failed on his first attempt. Better luck next time. Film posted on his request.

Ok; so maybe the background story isn't reality, and you are ok in my book midway...but this just had me in tears last night for 5 minutes... :aok

Midway

When you first came into the game and spammed ch.200(yes I know I can detune ch. 200 but there is alot of Players I Respect here so I do not detune it) it was funny at first, but now with all your kissing butt to certain Squads is also Getting Old, I know I am paying my money each month like others in the game but they also are getting tired of it and this also leads to the influx of more request for per ma squelch, so we do not have to keep squelching the same old players in the game and enjoy our limited time of flying. I am requesting you keep your comments to yourself and stop kissing butt to the Top Squads in the Game cause by now we all know who they are.

Thanks,
Crazy8s

P.S I have my steel outfit on so let the flaming begin <Salute> Also Midway I am not asking ya to do anything Crazy and leave the game but we have Our Opinions and I am voicing mine finally.

meh.  you have 3 options:

1. .squelch midway
2. de-tune 200
3.simply ignore

it's easy enough to filter out with the rest of the chaff on 200 that doesn't pertain to my awesomesauce...ness.  :aok

i only ever squelch 2 things. ch 1 and ch 6.  i used to wish i could squelch ch 2 and 3, but with that change to the radio buffer interface, you can drag it so it shows no text, which i do sometimes.  :noid

First thing I do when I log on is type .squelch midway. And if he's not on when I first log on I'll wait till I see the first message from him and then instantly squelch him along with anyone that replies to him. Is it annoying? Yes. But it works. I don't see HTC doing anything about it so I guess we'll have to continue to live with his stupidity. It's really a shame that HTC continues to let one person cause so much trouble when they could easily take his texting ability away. I wish they would permanently or at least a year.

HTC has provided the necessary feature if you wish to ignore what a player says and as you posted, you used that feature so you wouldn't be bothered by a particular player.  There is no need for HTC to take any actions against Midway as he's done nothing that would be considered remotely against the terms of service.

Besides, if you want to shut up Midway just shoot him down and he'll be quiet for at least 5 minutes.  I've tested this out one day and enjoyed a blessed couple of hours of radio free Midway.

actually this is incorrect Bone, Midway no longer referred to you as one of his "7 FPH's"   when you started asking him if he wanted to do shrimping with you.

So maybe Midway is a little homophobic which would surprise many of you.

EzRhino,  This all started when he politely asked to join my plane to see "how it is done" rather than cry cheat or haxxor he sat queitly in the back like R2D2 and it turned out to be a better than average sortie of awesomeness.  This left a deep impression on the chap and I won't be held responsible for any resulting man love he has for my cartoon skillz.

I had a FPH about 11 years ago and everyone should try and observe like Midway has done and strive to become a better, more honourable pilot.  :D

One shouldn't be forced to mute the same loudmouthed player day after day.

If one is repeatedly asked to stop detracting from gameplay and doesn't, how is that still acceptable?

I think what Molsman is getting at is that it's annoying to:

Want to squelch as soon as you log in.
Want to squelch whenever THEY login.
Deal with everyone still discussing the "squelched"  and then try to squelch them ;)
Ignore it, and see the exact same things posted day after day (Might want to CONSIDER YOUR WAY) :noid
...Then see it on the forums...uhh like here...

...So I think he means that it's run it's course, time to stop?

Yes.

'Us people' tend to like chatting with those on the other side for some friendly banter or to have a nice chat with the virtual enemy, whom is still a friend.
'Us people' tend to dislike it when the unofficial community channel is overrun by politics, hatred, and otherwise jagoff behavior.

Midway tends to disrupt the flow of pleasantness, so it would seem.

Is it so bad to politely ask for a discontinuation of behavior that is harmful to one's enjoyment of a game?

It's not bad to ask, or to squelch him if he continues to annoy you

It's a bit much to claim he's spoiling AH's gameplay just because he winds up thin skinned idiots on 200 all day :)

You apparently did not read the earlier posts of how it disrupts ch200 even if a player is squelched.  Which alot of us really like.

I would assume HTC would punish something wrong.

I would not expect them to touch something regarded as frequently annoying.

to me, disrupting 200 chatter (which is invariably garbage anyway) is not the same as detracting from the gameplay of AH

all I can suggest is that you grow a pair, then these
heinous crimes of chat disruption might not cause you such anguish :)

I was winging with Delirium the other day and we ran up against Midway in his Spit.  Even though it was a 2 v 1, he did not HO, and when he found out he was fighting me and Del together (more Del than me), he continued to up and fight us.  Midway's 200 antics aside, for the way he plays the game, he gets a lot of respect from me.   :salute Midway, they were fun fights sir!

If Midways 200 banter bothers anyone to the point that is seems reasonable to post a "shut up, you are ruining my gameplay" thread. Then the majority of the other ch 200 rants that go on during the day must drive you just shy of going on a 25 state puppy killin spree.

Well, think about the following situation.

you have to take the subway to get to work. its a 35 min drive. every day the same 15 years old boy comes in and talk loud and stupid stuff all time, he never paused, he talks on and on!
EVERY DAY BOTH WAYS. Do you think ppl would tolerate that on their way to work in a subway??? Why should we tolerate it here?

So think about it, we got exactly the same here in AH, and there is no RL or online difference. We sit in front of the computer, wanna shoot stuff, wanna have fun! And all time that troll flood ch 200 with his stupidity. I stop here, becaue i am getting angry about it!

just one idea at least for a compromise:
It would be very helpfull if we can have a permanat mute list, just a simple txt file at AHs roo dir. We would enter all ppl we wanted to squelch and it would be good

You know, I don't really know Midway that well.  At times he comes across as stalkerish and a bit too addicted.  However, someone who genuinely loves Aces High, strives to improve, fights against all odds, and who keeps a positive attitude is an asset to the game.  Many of you guys act like he's the worst thing that ever happened to Aces High, and that's far from true; Drex was by far the worst thing that ever happened.

Actually I'm afraid to tell you that Bruv119 did leave and has now been replaced by an exact replica just like what happened to Paul McCartney in 1966. The replacement Bruv119 is so authentic that he doesn't even know he is a replacement.

Midway isn't bad. He is always willing to fly into the horde at low alt and put up the best fight he can. His 200 banter is innocent and witty. He sure is a lot more easy to put up with than many others in the game. :salute Midway for spicing the game up a bit.

 :aok

I think Midway plays a smart game.  If he is in a situation he doesn't like, he patiently puts himself into the right situation and reengages.  My encounters with him have always been fun and always a challenging fight for me and almost always end up with a salute from me (as I am the one usually in the tower).  I prefer to fight guys like him and a few other posters to this thread because I learn valuable tactics in the game.

IMO - All in all, 200 banter is just part of the game.  If anyone is getting under your skin on 200, you are losing the battle.  It is just like goaltending in hockey, if you let someone in your head during a game, they own you.  Mental toughness is sometimes needed.  Otherwise, detuning 200 works too...

See y'all in the cartoon skies!

Ya see, I like my radio set a certain way, then leave it.. Just askin for perfectly natural power switches on the radio sets.. Don't have to alter anything, just hit the switch, that should be there, like the real thing.. I'd turn it on when required, when needed.. When I did turn it on, I want to hear and read everyone without having to MESS WITH IT!.. Other than flip the switch to the on position.. Both radios, Pretty simple, Switch on, Switch Off, Geez!

Midway used to really annoy me but I have come to understand it wasn't him it was me at fault, I was getting too involved and letting things in a game get to me.
I would like to sincerely apologise to Midway for all the disrespect I have shown him.
We all have our fun in our own way and I'm sure he's just trying to lighten the atmosphere but I never did understand or even give him a chance, I'm sorry. :salute

You choose what you want on, and when.. :aok

` key is your switch.  Set text box size to zero lines (minimized), then hit the key, set text box size to what you like (say 20 lines).

Hit ` key once, text box off, hit ` key again, text box on.

Easier than clap on, clap off (since you just use one finger instead of two whole hands).  :aok

Settings are saved so you won't have to set it up more than once.  :)

Yes! Now there is something to salute about if it is true, NOMOHO: WTG Bruv for teaching, guiding etc, etc... always thought you were a decent stick Midway but then you always seem to use the HO anytime it becomes available. IMHO if you are a good stick there rarely is any call for it, unless your just feel nasty that day. Like I said above IMHO.

Ok what exactly are you going to do about my annoying 15 year old on the subway that has every right to do what and say what he wants as long as he isn't breaking the law? Huh... Beat him up? Tape his mouth? Midway pays his $ just like the rest... Cannot believe a bunch of babies made a thread about Midways 200 Talk....If you don't like it... You leave the game! I would miss midways comments, I wouldn't miss all the crybabies who spend more time crying about other players 200 habits. Turn 200 off or Go play Hello Kitty or some other game where everyone is nice to you!! :salute :rock

:O Nice??  Bruv is awesome!  Skills of a FPH's FPH.  Looks like a regular guy walking around England somewhere... little do people know who he really is and how good he is at flying Spitfires and other aeroplanes.   Most English know of the Spitfire and how it helped save the world, but few, very few know that the closest you can get to flying a Spitfire in combat today is in AH... and Bruv is one of the, if not the, best at it.

And what better foundation can you found a squad on than The Few... the real Few.  Check out their website and see how they honor The Few that are owed so much by so many.

Not taking anything away...  Just saying...  Spend some time in the sun while you are young and free...  Plenty of time to hole up in a man cave and play video games when you hit your 40s and have a wifey and a few kiddies!

Neither makes sense.  Real air transport pilots are much safer pilots and air shows are also about being safe.  WWII pilots in the real world obviously dealt with variables and risks AH can not model. However, where else can you get into a WWIi fighter or bomber and fight others with top notch ACM skills, accurate shooting skills, and all the while needing to maintain SA. AH is as close as we'll ever get which is still a long way from what it was really like.

While AH certainly is a game, it's also a very good WWII air combat sim, maybe the best, and the skills needed to be an awesome fighter pilot in this "game" are very challenging.  Chess and pacman are pure games.  AH simulated air combat involves many of the real world skills and tactics to be a top pilot and thousands of hours of practice.  I know it isn't real, far from it, but it sure is fun and challenging to become good in it.

If it were easy, anyone could do it.  But it isn't, instead it's very hard to be among the best and anyone that is among the best in this "game" of skill has invested a lot of effort, overcome great odds, and learned something most of us are still trying to comprehend.

None of that is "kissing" anything, it's just admiring the skills of those that are the best among us AH simulated air combat pilots.  It is what it is and nothing more or less.

:huh Big word, Shane, but does not apply to me.  One can have fighter pilot heros without expecting some form of approval or acceptance in response.  Levi being a FPH of mine that I have never seen in game nor I expect any form of approval or acceptance. He is just an awesomely skilled pilot based on films I have seen. As for Bruv, Grizz, Yenny, and all my other FPHs, their acceptance is not my goal, acquiring their level of skill is.  I do listen when they point out problems in my fighting, but that's far from any sort of sycophantic relationship.

Oh, i totally overlooked that aspect of his post.  :noid

Heh... he's too far behind the curve and a) not getting any younger b) not doing the things his FPHs did to get to their level of skill c) hasn't shown any innate talent that would elevate those skills to FPH levels, all of which possess both skills and talent.

He works hard at it, no question, but he continues to limit himself.

Is this what you will do if you acquire these 'awesome' skills Midway?

(And no I don't mean shoot down Shane's LA7).

Good point, Nrshida.  I want to be a man of peace (thru strength -- of character).  That takes time too and I very much appreciate you pointing out my failing here.  Another moment of weakness  i am considering my way now.  Thank you, sir.  :salute

Im still laughing at that picture of Bruv.........

not in a bad way Bruv..........

its just funny...I started flying in AH to kill people...the one and only reason....kill suckers and not go to prison.......I get it in my mind that the red guy is the enemy and must be killed, so you picture in your mind, some hulking evil monster at the controls of the enemy plane....

then I see that picture....and just laugh...for I realize...I am the Hulking evil monster.

Finally, someone gets it.  :)

pm sent, sir!

My wife never cared one way or the other for cole slaw, but I fixed this initially to go on a fried catfish sandwich, and WOW it was awesome. She loves it, and refuses to eat any other cole slaw at all now. It's spectacular on a pulled pork BBQ sandwich, and packs a little heat itself. The combination of the fresh cilantro, chipotle pepper, and lime is killer. 1 chipotle pepper gives it a little bite, add 2 peppers if you like the heat and the slaw will bite you back.

I can say this about Midway... He's not afraid to fight. Even when at a disadvantage, he stays and does his best.

We've spent a few hours in the TA, where I wanted to assess his skill level and get an idea where he is weakest. I've made a standing offer to meet with him on Tuesday evenings in the TA to work on what I observed.

A few things he can practice any time...

Be quicker on the reverse. Begin this by never meeting straight-on, nose to nose. Grab some angles prior to the merge. Every degree of advantage you grab there translates to the second merge, where you can manage a crossing shot if you get enough angle.

In a turning fight, be careful about reversing your turn. You rarely gain anything, and it usually costs you.

Don't use flaps in a Spitfire so much.. They decrease turn radius relatively little, at the price of killing E (and by consequence, turn rate). IE: When you dumped flaps in an attempt to out-turn my 109G-2, I took the fight vertical and you had no E to follow. Manage your E better. An advantage in speed can allow you to fight up and down, whereas your opponent must now react to you. One method that will force you to conserve E is to fly a fighter than climbs and accelerates poorly. The P-40s and Ki-61 are some examples. Both of these types have poor flaps that create a lot of drag for little gain in turn radius. Get them slow and you get dead quickly.

Practice flying and turning on the edge of the stall. I'll show you a technique that will help you develop this skill. You want to be able to turn the smallest circle possible. With practice, no one will ever out-turn you in the same aircraft type. Match you? Perhaps, but not be superior.

Duel in dissimilar aircraft. This enables you to learn how to deal with various fighter's attributes and quickly learn their weaknesses.

Spend more time in other aircraft. If you specialize in one or two types, you limit yourself. I refer to the F4Us and F6F vs F4U duels. Your goal should be to be proficient in all types.

Practice judging E states. You need, more than anything else, to equalize E states. If you engage with a significant E disadvantage, you're already on the short end. A reasonably skilled opponent will capitalize on his E state advantage and keep you slow by forcing you to evade, until you're so slow that you can't change your aspect enough to avoid getting hit.

Keep practicing. However, you need to break some old habits and cultivate new ones.

I gotta ask this question, just who is Midway and why do all of you even care?  I don't know him but I know he is no FlightSim legend and the ones that are the FPH's aren't the legends of the FlightSim Community.  The hot shot killers run their course and fade but those who code, skin, make maps and soundpacks, and do the thankless support jobs like farming out donated parts to keep players playing (TequilaChaser comes to mind), and those who create and run the various scenerios and events are the true Legends of the FlightSim Community (Airwarrior, WarBirds, FighterAce, and Aces High), well their deeds have been running for over 20+ years and will continue.  Those that want to ankle hump the FPH's can have at it but you are missing the entire spirit of the whole community.
