Title: Battle of Britain scenario is epic
Post by: thrila on August 19, 2017, 03:52:30 PM
I've just had some of the most memorable fights in years- i'm having a fantastic time. That is despite current;y being in the tower because i was forced to ditch after being shot up by a gaggle of 20-30 bf 109s. :)

Get into the special events arena and participate in this before this finishes in 7 hours tiime. There is a strong possibility you will have a good time.

Pretty amazing down in the gutter dogfight with my Stuka being attacked by spits and hurricanes. That was BRUTAL but fun!  Oh, and sorry about A33, we just happened to be flying over it as the launch window popped, couldn't resist!

PS -  To all the folks that stayed in for 12 hours, way to go!  You now have a glimpse what it's like to fly a Global, Gulfstream or Widebody Boeing/Bus.  Minus the guns and all that stuff but still...

WAY TOO GO 610 Squadron(of which I helped) :rock You guys were AWESOME(I helped a bit, too)! Top Squadron in Battle of Britain(in kills) Thanks again Weiser,Damphyno, Bgoldy ,DutchvII and all you guys. Best 10 hours ,almost straight, ever   :rock  It left me with an impression that was hard to put aside though. It is amazing to me, how Britain did what they did in real life. Out gunned, against seasoned Warriors, awe inspiring to say the least. Just the littlest glimpse of the REALITY those boys went through, has kept me awake after this scenario. Sort of makes Churchill"s "No more has been owed" speech seem more real,in a way? Then I have to think about my American Warriors. Thank you,for all you have done...AND still do! Thank you Nefari and anyone else that spent the time organizing this event. It meant more than you can ever realize or I can express. I needed this, lets just leave it at that! THANK YOU

Huge thanks to everyone who made this event happen, it was truly epic. Just kept wanting more and more, so many different situations, experiences and feelings you go through in that 12 hour span. There were epic scenes when diving in for the bomber formations, fighting in huge furballs, looking at big groups of planes maneuvering on a map before combat and being completely overwhelmed by incoming information etc. Got everything I asked for and more from this event. Special thanks to BFOOT1 for being a great squad leader. I will try to register the next time to make the job easier for the leaders and organizers.

Keep the screenshots, gun camera compilations, stories etc coming.

Man scenarioas are about 3,000% better then the MA!  Really makes you wish the early/mid war or AvA arenas had life in them.  I must say, with the graphics turned all the way up and icons turned off the absolutely massive formation of HE111's and JU87's being escorted by 109's and 110's was beautiful!

I fully understand how you was feeling, Flossy.... I made for the first 6 hours and said I was going to rest for  about 2 hours and come back... Bad idea, for the resting turned into becoming more aches and pains and stiffening up in my neck, shoulder elbow and hand on my right side....i was bummed out... Next time if I'm around, I'll just push through it and keep going until I am not able to continue...

Was awesome fun and good fights/flying on both sides

Thank you for creating this scenario for the AH community members, Nefarious! It is greatly appreciated

Being 1:30 in the morning also had a bearing on it; if it had been earlier in the evening I would have probably kept going as I did last time.  Last night though I really didn't think I could last until 5:00 am.  This getting older lark doesn't help either.  LOL   :old:

Hey guys I made this newspaper, because back then it was very popular for both sides to announce the major battles that happened over Britain. Hope you all enjoy!  :salute

Edit: It may be hard to read so you may have to zoom in. Yesterday was epic! I thoroughly enjoyed the constant dofights with you Luftwaffe boys. My favorite fight was the fight we had on the deck with multiple 109's just north of Biggin Hill. Odee, and I, were turn fighting what seemed to be 20 109's and 110's. I know JG3, JG51, JG52, and ZG1 were in the fight based on the logs. I bagged one of the 109's, but there were so many Odee and I were just in constant turn fights. Then the 110's came down for the BnZ, and some of them were involved in the turning fight as well. It was the best fighting I've had on the deck in a long time. Kudos to Kanth who got me, and the rest of you that got pieces of me  :salute

Edit: I played around and got what is pictured above for, in my opinion, something that looks 100x's better.

Also, for your viewing pleasure, footage of the most-improbable bomber mission I have ever flown in my 30 years of on-line flying.

As Corky pointed out, I owe my survival to 303's, and I also owe it to my trusty last He 111, which unbelievably held together just barely long enough for me to slam it down on the runway, come to a grinding halt, and end sortie.

I was in a running fight from just after bomb drop on a city target, to the English coast, all across the channel, and even over the airfield I was trying to ditch at.  Along the way, I collected bullets from CorkyJr, Oboe, Yarbles, Amsoil, Bruv, JimmyC, Dace, AKRaider, and Makayla.

Popsman was my gunner, which allowed us at times to fire at attackers coming in from different directions.  Eventually, we ran out of ammo, though, which is a little after where the film starts.

(Apologies to guys on my side for my asking a bunch of times for gunners at 157.  With gunfire and other folks talking on the radio, I couldn't hear the replies, and in my state of mortal fear, I wasn't thinking of the obvious -- that there was no way to launch them there outside of a launch window.)

And an external view of the action:

<S> to my RAF foes and to my fallen comrades from KG 76.

The speed  ans firepower of the EW planes was grinding..

HOW did you survive that????
Your He111 was tougher than 3 B-17s

BTW  The nose gun on your vid from the inside view is BACKWARDS.  Go look at your film from the inside and its pointing Backwards?   How is that???  :headscratch: :headscratch: :headscratch:

added:

Brooke I just now watching your external video of same event, also from exterior your He111s nose gun is Backward.  I will have to check my He111s to see if they are backwards.  Is this a known bug?

I think it's a glitch you see on other bombers as well, when you jump to a turret, it will "snap" to the nearest limit based on your last gunner view. Until you do that, the gun follows your view when aiming other guns, it just can't fire. Same for waist gunners on B17s and such that I've seen. If you're in a tail gun and jump to the cockpit, you haven't "reset" the forward gun's last known angle. It corrects itself if you jump to it.

stop calling them my minions its very rude!

we had scout duty first hour so we went and found them.

i agree with those who said it wasnt right but if you didnt take so long climbing we wouldnt have been over there.  as you saw later on coming in low and under dot dar was smarter, quicker and more effective.  its what i would have done considering the turn around times.

after that very successful first 2 hours i have to say our scouts werent good enough.  we had very little warning where the bombers were and they started getting through.

Yes, I hope to have the results posted by Thursday evening.

I don't envy the task, working out what targets were hit at what time and if they were actually valid targets in that particular phase.

I think quite a few missions missed their time windows and were hit anyway.   :aok

We had 12 hours to kill, this was all part of the plan. Test your reaction times, response times, and how willing you were to go to which lengths.  All in the first sortie ;)  A disposable hour to learn much. Both raids were per the plan we designed at our first group meeting   That was a fantastic battle.  Very proud of the Axis effort, Impressed with the Allies.  The opposition was intense and enjoyable.
