Title: Stall limiter
Post by: manglex1 on April 17, 2013, 03:46:01 PM
What exactly does this do? For the bit I've been playing I never really found out. (Please don't say "it loses fights"  :lol)

The stall limiter limits the maximum AoA you can pull during flight

And thus can prevent you from stalling your plane. Howver without stall limiter, you can pull a tad more before stalling ("flying at the edge") and thus turn (somewhat) tighter.

What Snail said, it greatly limites the AoA, therefore it doesnt let you perform any post-stall moves, just like snaprolls, hammerheads or tailwhips.
Do yourself a huge favour and disable it.

I dunno if you do or do not, but if you do fly with stall limiter on TURN IT OFF!

You will do so much better once you learn to fly without it. It may take a few weeks, but you'll get the hang of it.

Thanks for clearing it up guys. And, to be honest I do fly with it on. I tried turning it off and seemed to be dying way more often  :rofl

I fly with it off.  Getting beat now and then is better than being able to do fancy moves that I have no idea how to do.
And not crashing every sortie is a plus.  :)

Even though you die more with it off, You will become a better pilot. It will help to learn control. I flew with it on for about three months and when I finally turned it of I had to relearn . But it IS worth it .

I meant to write that I fly with the stall limiter on.  Derp.

Guess my proofreading skills are about on par with my flying.  :)

RedBull still uses this feature. That and auto-takeoff.  :neener:

Three more weeks and the Orange plane is back....

To the OP, I used to get so frustrated watching guys turn inside of me and not understanding why. The stall limiter "off" forces you to fly with a higher degree precision. You can't slam your stick around like you used to (unless you are a 190 guy  :neener:) and as a result, your overall control of the airplane will improve over time.

You will be extremely frustrated at first, stick with it.  :aok

It's taken you how long and you still use it?

You might want to take a little time at first and fly around in the TA a reduced power settings and explore where the edge of the stall is, you know without someone shooting at you. :)

you do have the option in sounds.  or just record a blank sound file for it.

Now would be a good time to discover stick scaling too, with disabling the stall limiter.

http://www.hitechcreations.com/Help-Section/Getting-Started/Aces-High-Joystick-Configuration-Information.html

In your AH settings folder, locate your controller .jsm file (it will be named the same as displayed in the Windows Game Controllers) and open it.  It will look something like this.  Remember to back up this file before making any changes so you can revert back to it if necessary.

CH Control Manager Device 1   <---Controller name
3,1
X Axis
255,32767,65535,0.000000,0.000000,0.250000
AXIS,ROLL,0,1  <---Aileron
0.45,0.49,0.53,0.57,0.62,0.67,0.73,0.83,0.93,1.00  <--These are the stick scale setting numbers
NOTUSED,NOTUSED,0,0
NOTUSED,NOTUSED,0,0
NOTUSED,NOTUSED,0,0
Y Axis
255,32767,65535,0.000000,0.000000,0.250000
AXIS,PITCH,0,1  <---Elevator
0.45,0.49,0.53,0.57,0.62,0.67,0.73,0.83,0.93,1.00  <--These are the stick scale setting numbers
NOTUSED,NOTUSED,0,0
NOTUSED,NOTUSED,0,0
NOTUSED,NOTUSED,0,0
Z Axis
0,0,0,0.000000,0.000000,0.000000
NOTUSED,NOTUSED,0,0
NOTUSED,NOTUSED,0,0
NOTUSED,NOTUSED,0,0
NOTUSED,NOTUSED,0,0
Button 0
NOTUSED,NOTUSED
NOTUSED,NOTUSED
NOTUSED,NOTUSED
NOTUSED,NOTUSED

Copy the stick scale numbers and paste them into your controller's .jsm file under Roll (aileron) and Pitch (elevator) and save it.

Make sure that your controllers have been properly calibrated in both Windows and AH.  Remember in AH there are two calibration routines, one in the map controllers section (Calibrate Axis) and the general Calibrate Controllers in the Options/Controllers section of the clipboard.

I have my dead bands and dampening turned all the way down on the bottom.

The only significant change I've done to the stick scale is that I no longer scale the ailerons, just the elevators.  I left the scale numbers for the ailerons in this example because that's how I originally created this stick scale and didn't want to confuse anyone.

you do have the option to increase/decrease the stall sound within the game.  actually you can do that for each individual sound.
