I had said that I hoped that ron paul would get out and not harm the republicans by taking away votes. I felt he was too good a man to do that.
I am glad to see that he is.

So it's either going to be Hussain, Hillary, or Ted Kennedy's Twin.

All in all, with virtually no love from the media Paul had a pretty solid run. I would have liked to have seen him closer to double digits in more places, but overall not too bad.
His positions require a lot of public education, with limited opportunities to do so. He was a radical simply because we lack, broadly, any deep understanding of how we came about as a country, why the framers created the limits and balances they did, and for Republicans what conservatism was before the Nixon era. Similarly, he was not Johnny Charisma. But, the debates did allow him to express ideas that I believe many people, or at least many Republicans, will have in the backs of their minds as we move forward. As the mainstream Uniparty continues to crap on America for its own power and profit people will notice more and more.
Another encouraging thing is the youth vote. His youth supporters actually care. And they are evangelical.
So, <S> Ron Paul, and better luck for all of us next time.

well the doctor's numbers pretty much proved one thing... the empire is like a fruit box with less than 10% real juice.

charon.. I disagree.
I am normally pretty optimistic but...
I believe that the more people knew about ron paul the less chance he would have in America. I believe that freedom and individual rights and self reliance and small government are the last things that the vast majority of Americans want today.

I don't disagree -- today. And I never thought he would do better than 10 percent in a best case scenario. I guess my angle is that Paul reintroduced what has become an entirely alien concept to most Americans. A smaller, less intrusive Govt. The idea that we might not actually need a bigger and growing Govt.
Now, did most find him a loon? Probably. But, at least they are now aware of the concept. As the uniparty continues to fail (under both parties), as the obvious failings of big Govt. continue to become hard to ignore I think people who have dismissed him will pay more attention if small govt. supporters keep expressing their side of the argument on forums and in personal discussions. Slowly but surely, I think even mainstream progressive types are starting to wonder if their tax dollars are buying the social miracles that are promised in terms of results. I think they're getting a bit of nanny law overload too, and if we swing into a recession I would imagine that they will pay even more attention to bloat and waste. In fact, the do noting, no change business as usual that would result from an Obama presidency might be the spirit crushing event we need to dispell the big mommy Govt. fantasy once and for all. Lemons and lemon aid, perhaps.
An interesting side point. The Cook County budget deadline almost passed without a resolution. No budget cuts were to be made at all in the bloated Govt. Numerous taxes were proposed and fought with a final cave in with our 1 percent increase in the sales tax. Before that happened though there was talk of only having "essential" services should a budget not be reached... That sounded great to me! Why are we paying for all these non essential services :)

Yahoo news if it isnt already is getting as bad as the rest.
Mostly talking half trueths out their arses.
he's still in for the rest of the primaries.
And while he very well knows his odds of winning are between slim and none.
He wants to start something bigger
In his own words put out yesterday

Naa he got lower numbers because the corperate owned media refused to give himm any serious coverage.
Fox blew him off outright. CNN is the only media outlet I saw give him any real coverage. and even that was miniscule in comparison to the group the media wants in there

I can't help but think we are not ready for ron paul yet.
the government is not quite big and oppressive enough for most Americans yet. Once the pendulum starts to swing the other way.. he, or someone like him, will get a lot of press and a lot of support.

WRONG....I want all those things. Small example: I wear my seat belt but I hate the fact there is a law telling that I have to wear it. For children YES wear your seat belt/car seat but as an adult you should understand what could/would happen. IF you die in a crash because you were not wearing your seat belt then you just helped clean the genepool...ty moron. The founding fathers knew that a large central government would be the down fall of America and it is getting to that. For the last 20 years we have had 2 different "genepools" running this country and looking (if Hillary gets in) to add up to 8 more. We as a people are told what to think, say, and do by the government like it or not...know it or not.
IE: We had an outcry when fuel prices started to rise. Now you hear nothing other than grumbling at the pumps. The government knows we are a nation of ADD cases and DO NOT FEAR us in anyway shape or form. They know they control us...what we watch on TV, the news we recieve, what we eat, who owns guns, and so on. We are not ruled by the people for the people...we are ruled by a rich few for corp. america

While RP winning would have been a dream come true, that is and always has been the longest of shots. I'm disappointed, but keep telling myself that this isn't JUST about RP. A movement has been started, Ron Paul Republicans are running for various house and senate positions. Thousands, if not millions, of Americans have been brought out of political apathy and are working to take back the GOP and restore the republic.
An article I read a while back puts it all into perspective when it said (paraphrasing) that "Ron Paul was the movement's Goldwater, not necessarily its Reagan." Goldwater wasn't politically suave enough, Reagan had to put a pretty face on it and use his silver tongue before Goldwater's ideas took hold. I just hope there's a republic left to restore in 4 years...
That said, here's a funny pic that makes a lot of sense to me...

stroker.. how am I "wrong"? just because you say you like freedom does not mean that the majority of Americans do... You talk of the rest of us being "morons" and "brainwashed" yet.. you give an example of where you are a brainwashed moron. I may be wrong.. you may not be but.. if you think not wearing seatbelts is gonna thin the gene pool in any real way.. you are brainwashed.
Your chances of a seatbelt saving your life (unless you race or drive very badly) are miniscule... you are brainwashed.. you dutifully put on the seatbelt every day.. yet.. you probly don't carry a gun.. your chances of being the victim of a violent crime are about 1 in four... choosing seatbelts as the best threat assesment seems to be well.. moronic... I would say those that don't carry a gun are "thinning the gene pool" but, unlike you.. I don't revel in it.
I will say it again.. the vast majority of Americans today fear freedom and do not want it.

BSD.. glad to see you are still with us. I think that there is a lesson in ron pauls run... that we were not quite ready.
I think that there is a lesson in his decision to not run and be a spoiler too.. I think it shows character and.. it is smart.. there is no plus in making the libertarian ideals hated by throwing an election to the demoncrats.

Problem is. by the time it does get that big and oppressive.
It will be too late.
I'd rather join the movement now and encorage it to grow.
So when the time comes. We actually have something to move against, or I should say counter it with.
Rather then starting a grass roots movement when its already too late.

How do you define "be a part of the movement"?
I voted for the guy in the primary. I explained to everyone here why I did so. I did not lie about the mans position. I explained that some who supported him.. even to them in person.. probly shouldn't.
I don't think you should dred.. I don't think you would want to live under an individualistic type of system. I have seen no evidence that you embrace libertarian or individualist principles.
I do so every day and every chance I get. It is never "too late" until you die and then.. only for you.

LOL how do you figure I dont embrace individualist principles?
what specifically causes you to think that?
As for the movement. Watch the clip.
while he knows he isnt winning the election. he wants to keep the "revolution" in his own words. going
-
"keeping the revolution going" has a nice ring to it... very osamabama like.. "changing the hope" or whatever he says.. I think he may even have a "keeping it going" soundbite.
I don't care about the phrases and soundbites.. I care what the guy means. if ron paul means he is gonna drop out that is good news for all of us. much as I like the guy and believe that he is right.. staying in would cause more harm than good at this point.. he had his chance.. America had it's chance... we soundly rejected him and individual rights over socialism.

Thanks, Lazs. I'm glad I'm still here too... :)
'Bout "the movement" or "the revolution", it's all about the Constitution; constitutional principles and the candidates who will uphold them. Being part of it (the "movement" or "revolution") means doing the best you can to educate people about said principles and supporting candidates who are true to the Constitution.
BTW, Ron Paul IS NOT dropping out. He was interviewed on CNN this morning, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYi1458u5iU (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYi1458u5iU) Explains why he's staying in ("Republicans deserve to have a conservative to vote for"), why he's not running third party and why he won't support McCain.
Another piece on not dropping out, RP's son, another Dr. Paul, is interviewed by his local news and explains why RP's staying in, essentially to send the GOP a message. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DsK4i6BroTU
-
Oh, I absolutely agree that it does no harm for him to stay in the primaries and run as a republican. That is what he is saying. in essence.. he is out of the race but being seen and heard. this is good.
What would be bad is if he ran as an independent... this I don't think he will do. I think he is too good of a man for that.
It is good that the republicans have a conservative individual rights guy to vote for.. the democrats don't at all and haven't for many decades.
They don't like libertarian principals.. they are quite happy to vote for the most liberal democrat the democrats can field sooo..
ron paul running as an independent would only help the liberal socialism cause.

wanna see "the movement" in action? Here's a short video from a debate of sorts from the North Carolina 4th congressional district race. From what I gather, it's a neocon-ish guy and a Ron Paul Republican guy being asked who can better beat the Dem incumbent. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-AJtRzROGvE
Edit: another Ron Paul Republican, Murray Sabrin, addresses Union County Republicans. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=efAXNyFZgT8

As I have said.. the more ron paul republicans we have the better. that does not mean that I want him to run as an independent tho.
