that is one thing i wish more players had here
there are some who have it, but very few...
i dont understand why people complain so much.
for instance
i was in a spit16(awesome plane) i had alt on a spit 8 i think it was an 8(he was NOT low and slow), i drop down on him and start to turn with him
i dont use my e advantage i turn with him,a few turns hes dead, he types over 200 "did ya have enough alt.." or something like that.
this was a long time player (we where in a squad together so i know hes been around awhile)and i was suprized thats what he said.
i did not reply back to him, to me he showed no honor,
if i am in a fight and my nme killz me i <S> em, unless he picks me, or vulches me, or i am out numberd,
i think when someone complains about what another else is flying, that shows no Honor
i have to say this game is great, and i am glad i found it.
i just wish there was more honor.
so this i say a huge <<S>> to those who show Honor.
all the others will get nothing from me not even a check6.

Two days ago when I logged on for the "night time" fight (around 9pm here) the only fight going on was Knights vs Bishop, so I switch to Knights. Turns out the Knights are outnumbered 4-1, and every single Bish was at 10-20K BnZing and running away. I would see why they would do that if they were the ones outnumberdd 4-1, but why would everyone BnZ if they outnumber the enemy? Went back on the next night, again there's only one real fight going on Rooks vs Bish. I join in with the Rooks, and again we're outnumbered and again every Bish is BnZing from 10-20K! There was one guy who actually came down to fight, and I gave him a big <<S>>!!
Sometimes this game can be very..."dweeby" is what I guess you can call it, and other times you can fight the best fight ever.
-
Since when is the legitimate tactic of BnZ dweebery? I fly planes that lend themselves quite nicely to that tactic, not all aircraft are meant for turn fighting. But I do agree with your point that more people need to give a <S> or perhaps just lose gracegully saying nothing rather than come back with some sort of derogitory remark to the pilot who just bested them. :aok
-
There is no repercussion for a lack of "honor" in this game, hence, all the dweebery that is frequently seen.
Bout sums it up.
-
Even complaining about being picked is lame. Last i knew this was a TEAM game. Object is to kill the nme. i may grumble to myself that i got picked, HO'd, or whatever. but 3 sec. later i have forgotten about it. Most of the nancy boys in the game that cry foul are your long timers. Which is why the noobs do it. But that just my opinion. :D
-
It will never change. 1/2 the folks are after a "fair" fight (or even like starting w/ a disadvantage) and 1/2 fly with every advantage they can. Actually, I would bet that the majority of players spend a bit of time on both sides of that fence.
Plenty of players have no problem picking, ganging, hoing, & alt monkeying while at the same time throwing a fit when anyone else uses the same advantages against them.
-
its to funny,
i enjoy this game very much,
but some people make me wonder why?
last night over TT i take out someone with a beautifull high canopy shot, almost HO but they had no shot, they died
so here he comes on and talks crap to me, via private message, and voice, saying "...only way i can kill em is to HO, im the worst stick, in game, bla, bla, bla..."
i just LOL over 200 and did not say any thing back to him, squelched him,
i play this game to release stress and have fun, i try very hard to play with HONOR, and give credit where its due.
but players like this make me wonder why? whats the point?
-
I was jumped by a P-47 last night while I was engaged with another con. No problem was watching him all the way in. Just turned with both him and the spit till the spit died. By then the jug was smoking and lost his engine. I thought about letting him go.. many times I would... except, he came in while I was engaged so I followed him a bit then gave him a short burst. He died. On another night I may have waved off. You never know lol..........

:rofl people say it is only a game but what it does is it shows the true person on the other side. No fear of anything since no one knows them so the real person comes out.
I love it when stuff like that happens. Most of the time these guys could not fly their way out of a wet paper bag so try apologizing and ask them for a few pointers in the DA. After they die (5 seconds or so) apologize again and tell them you did not know they were AFK. Most will log at that point and they never bother you again :rofl

Demanding honor in an online game is pointless. If you get it, as defined by your way of thinking, enjoy it. However, we're not talking honorable samurai, nor honorable crusading knights, nor honorable judges presiding.
Your definition of honorable doesn't match mine. I'm not going to say somebody fought with honor or without. I'm going to say somebody was lame or was good. Different connotations. Different moral implications.
P.S. I see a lot of what you describe, but I fly as knight, so I guess that's just normal of bish or rooks?
-
Most people in the game don't like to "die". Either because they think is unfair or they that you had to have cheated (because they are too good for you to have got them fairly), or whatever. Channel 200, for some, is a way to vent and get it out of their system. They send out a short "nice HO" or "had to gang bang me to kill me". I don't think it as much about honor as it is about the nature of the beast. The game engenders intense emotion and immerses people into it. They get geared up. Sometime they just suck it up and move on, other times they have to let out a few PSI of steam.
All that said, there is no cause for going on and on and on and on and on ad nauseum. But I think that has less to do with honor and more about a total lack of manners.
Sorry you have had the negative experience.
-
All you can do is have fun the best you can. Expecting it of anyone else in the game is just gonna give you headaches. I figure the only way I really can impact on the game is by how I play and what I contribute. If I get lucky and that makes a difference, it's all good. I hope, but don't expect that other folks will all feel the same way I do.
And as long as I'm not really dying and I get a new plane every time, I can't lose...unless I quit having fun. So far that's not happened :)

come to the AVA then, its not AS bad as the MA. it still happens but its happening less lately. we encourage you to join the Allied side. its a ball. try it, You'll like it!!

1. honesty, fairness, or integrity in one's beliefs and actions: a man of honor.
There are very few actions in the game that are without honor. One would be spying. Killing your enemy by whatever means does not show a lack of honor. Complaining on 200 or through PM that you were killed is without honor.
The solutions are simple:
1. If you don't want to loose because your opponent is in some late war uber ride, take out a late war uber ride.
2. If you don't want to be picked, take off at a rear base and get some alt.
3. If you don't want to be horded, work on your SA.
But don't cry about it when you get vulched, picked, horded, hoed or whatever.
About the BnZers: I read a book by a P51 pilot (can't remember which one now) in which he stated that the first rule for fighter pilots was: One pass, haul prettythang. You see, in real life, pilots who got into turn fights tended not to make it back to base. Not always, but it was a risky proposition. A turn fight, even if you were the victor, left you low and slow, easy pickings for someone else. I believe the same is true in AH.
If you want to turn fight, fine, go ahead. Just don't cry when someone picks you in the MA. If you want a pure fight go to the DA.

please bear in mind that we frown on MA tactics such as HO'ing, vulching, tool shedding, cherry picking, alt-monkeys, etc. its a different type of game. a more civilized type of game.
Anybody tell JG54 that Anybody who thinks gameplay in the AvA is better is delusional IMO.
i agree with humble i went to ava the other night it was lame, same crap as MA watermelon talking, cuz i was in spit, i got vulched... there is no difference, that will be the last time i go to AVA.

:rofl It is getting there, don't worry. But then, when the skies are full of P51s and D9s at 20K turning away from each other before visual range to avoid getting into a fight , there will be no one to pick :rofl
What are you guys going to do then? The graphics suck, so you cant really fly around and just enjoy the view :rofl

wuts honor

I like to give honor to every person that I fight. I try and not to take HO shots, but a lot of times it does not work and I get POed about getting HOed and 200 somthing out of emotion. Most of the time I try to give all of the players honor.
If it turns out to be a decent fight, either I die or he does I will always give them a "GF <S>" or .s name.
It just comes down to how well the guy fights me, HOing is the one thing that I do not like, picking I am ok with because I do it with myself.
-
Honor is as Honor does, to paraphrase Forrest Gump!
I have found that the more I <Salute> after a "good" engagement (win or loose) the more of 'em I get back. It is up to the (or US) "Veterans" to instill this sense of honor to the new guys by example. Some squads (ours the "False Prophets" included) like the 68th Lightning Lancers, Aces and Eights, AAs, AKs, Rolling Thunder and L.T.A.R just to name a few, make it a point to acknowledge a good fight on 200 with a <Salute> or a <S>!
I can't count how often some numbers guy on a two week trial has HO'd me... or how many times a high 190D has "Cherry Picked" me... Either way I put half of the blame for getting shot down (if that was the result) on myself for NOT having sufficient SA to avoid the situation.
It still takes two to HO, and for every Cherry picker there is a cherry. It's on me if I get picked, and If I turn nose on nose to some two weeker I expect that I will get HO'd.
I have on occasion gotten caught up in the moment and hastily typed "Nice HO" but always regretted upon reflection for the reasons stated above...
<Salute> to a good fight!
-
I said 'nice pick' to someone last week, because I meant it. He got me at a tough angle while I was turning with someone else.
He immediately got all defensive about it. I then explained that i didn't care about the fact that I died, but that it was really a 'nice pick."
He relaxed after that and understood it was no big deal to me.
-
I realize that 99.99% of the time it is something I did that got me killed, so getting mad at another player is rare for me. At the same time I give what I get, if my opponent comes head on, I will go head on, and after I die and get a nice little "nice HO" on 200, I chuckle and send a salute. PM's with dirogotory remarks are shared on country and squad channels, then ignored, not even worthy of a salute. The bravery of the internet coward is amazing, if you had these people standing in front of you they would be shaking in there boots and putting brown stripes in there BVD's, let alone talking crap. <SALUTE> to those that realize there is a person on the other end of your internet connection.

It would be nice if there was honor in this game.
One person said it's because there is no repercussion that twits do it...and get away with it.
Two quick examples....
Sunday, while doing one of our large missions...2 guys (from the same squad) join the mission. I should have been tipped off as they normally are always rook but....HAVE been knights on a few tours, so benifit of the doubt. I asked them to coordinate the escorts...and while they did, they took an extrordinarily LONG time to do it, lengthy radio transmissions, etc...and before you know it, it's taking 10 minutes too long to turn to target. All the while, rook fighters keep showing up...picking off bombers. Once we are almost to the radar ring of the base we are going to attack...the two dissapear...and we are SWARMED by fighters from high alt. They were just waiting for us.
They said that they "always switch to the side with the lowest numbers". (Third biggest lie on the planet).
The next hour they were bishops (lowest numbers). An hour later they were back rook (highest numbers, with ENY no less).
We DID have a CURE for garbage like that...it used to be a long time before you could switch countries and go back...now, it's like an hour or so...which only encourages slimeballs from switching & spying.
Non-stop Lies & no honor.
Today, I had scored my kills and had landed on the runway, engine off...and that faint half second when you click "end sortie" and it takes...got vulched on the runway by a rook.
It would be nice if there were were honor. Maybe someone will start a "Aces High Hall of Shame" website with films. That might help.

i think that what he's getting at is that we fly this sim for the fight.......if you're stayn hi and safe, then you're not really fighting.

Those two sound like backstabbers.
Our Squad almost always flies low number side. We have found it to be the best way to find fights. The 80th can be trusted to never divulge info across teams. So not all folks who say they fly low numbers are crooked. There will always be folks who do as your saying though.... I mean our prisons are full of that low class type.
On occassion when just our Squad is heading to a "base of no consequence" we announce our intention on 200 to get uppers there and a fight started. But... we never give out any team mission info.

The problem is that a lot of shall we say "individuals" in this game, as in all other games would wear this like a badge. Some players in any game out there live to just grief and ruin someone elses gaming experiance just because they can, and to feed some weird beast in their head.
Not sure this would work.

Well what frustrates me the most is when someone tries to pick me and I end up HOing them. Then they call me out on 200 and complain.
The other thing is when the Bish horde gangs up on 2 planes when there are more than enough for them. There have been times where i had 2 or 3 fighters on me and the Bish horde would be on some helpless little B25 and I got 2 spits on me...
But you make a good point sir <S>
-
Guys, I know that we all get frustrated but you have to remember that this is an online game. Expecting someone to live up to your sense of fair play or honorable play is only going to get you frustrated and make the game not fun. I'm sure we pay our 15 bucks to have fun vs. getting frustrated. In my opinion, this game has more players with a sense of fair play than any other massively played online game. Once in a while, you will get the true jerks. I don't think those guys last too long though. Whenever I get piss'd, I try to put this into perspective and then most of the time, I laugh and up again. I'm not perfect and sometimes I'll blast something across 200. When I do resort to that, I almost 99% of the time regret doing it as soon as I hit the enter key.
Just check the ego at the door (I know its hard sometimes). Its not something serious like Golf where I would do anything including cheating to win (HA! JK guys). :rofl
-
HO's yeah I've been known to take the HO shot if I'm left with a HO or die option. (Think pulling up during a fight to see a 190 diving in front of me buns a'blazing) though I did used to do it more times than necessary.
I BnZ quite a bit when I'm in an aircraft that lends itself to that kind of attack. Since I fly the La (Russian squad that actually did fly the La7 in WWII) a lot I will try to force the turn fight but I'll use it to BnZ too if needed.
If I die, it's because I made an error, either not knowing when to leave a bad engagement or making another tactical error, or simply because I was bested by a better virtual pilot in the fray. If I was going to be spending significant time in hospital recuperating from the battle then I'd be a tad upset. Since I get a new plane within seconds and another chance to wreak haoc on the enemy hordes I don't think I'll be sweating it.
I will however keep friendly aircraft appraised of the actions of enemy aircraft in the battle zone. If particular aircraft are displaying consistent tactics they will be announced on range to allow friendlies the information they need to counter their attacks, but that's just good teamwork IMO.

Dollars to doughnuts he expected you to come in way too fast and overshoot repeatedly until he turned the tables and killed you, and was pissed when you didn't.
Sorry, but the fact that "I didn't use my e-advantage" doesn't constitute some great act of chivalry your part either. You had a plane that was comparable in turning ability, better in roll, in that case, dumping E and saddling up on him was the most simple and direct way to kill the other guy, as opposed to BnZing/Efighting him. You killed him, he did not kill you, good for you, bad for him. That is all.
"Honor" doesn't come into it. One generally avoids HOing because it is a 50% chance of death, you generally don't jump on the bandit with 4 friendlies already on his tail because you have at best a 20% chance of getting the kill and because there will always be higher cons coming in to gang the low gangers, like zombies in a graveyard. The man who is, for instance, skillfull enough to beat a neophyte Spit pilot angles fighting in a 190A8 (I've seen it done) doesn't do it because he is so darned "honorable", he does it because he CAN, because like everybody he likes to kill, and because it puffs the ego even more to beat someone in an outrageously disadvantaged situation. (OTOH, if he is less skilled than he thought he was and gets whacked doing this, he is not "Captain Honor" either, he is "amateur-who-should-have-dove-and-run-from-that-spit"). You treat the green guys right (don't steal kills, help them out when practical) primarily because you might, probably will, need them at some point.
"Honor*" is a silly term to bandy about in regards to a video game, a video game that simulates an activity that never really resembled some sort of chivalric tourney in the first place.
*Okay, there are a few activities which could in fact be called "dishonorable", because they violate tacitly agreed up rules of the game. Deliberate warping, hacking, etc, but I am convinced that these are very, very rare. "Spying" would fall into that category, although it is incomprehensible to me that anyone CARES about this base taking stuff enough to bother with it.*
-
Well said, BnZ :aok
-
I'm new to AH but when I flew WB I had my own code of honor. I never expected anyone else to show me the same, it's just the way I played.
1) I never shot at a plane that had lost it's engine.
2) If the fight was good and the con was damaged and had to ditch I would fly by and waggle my wings...let him ditch and tell others to leave him alone.
3) If I was beat in a fight I would always send out a <S>
4) always respond to a distress call.
5) gave six calls even if no one called mine
Results?
1) No one ever let me ditch....
2) Never had a con protect my ditch...
3) made a lot of freinds...
4) made a lot of freinds...
5) made a lot of freinds...
I never complain about being killed. If I'm killed I made a mistake plain and simple.
Outside of that any tactic is fine by me, HO, vultch, flying at 20k+, etc.
Show me what you got :salute
As I said I'm new to AH and I have been having a great time here.
I hope to make more friends and have some great fights.
<S> kc
-
If someone is hurting and it is obvious such as half wing, smoking engine; I won't engage that person, not because I know I probably won't get the kill to my credit, but because if the player is trying to make it back to base then probably has kills they want to land. I'm not saying I've never shot down returning planes because I have in past. I just don't do it anymore. As for landers, I hate it when I get shot down when returning to base or landing so again, I don't shoot landers. As for 1vs1 - If i see one going on, won't come down and help out unless my countryman asks for help
Not saying i'm Saint of AH world, I just believe in honor :aok
-
There's no honor without good old fashion guts, the real 'Sisu' stuff :lol
-
I wrote this in another thread months ago
The way you play this game is a reflection of who you are in real life.
Some are brave
Some are cowards
Some are team oriented
Some are loners
Some have honor and respect
Some have none
Some are helpful offering kind words
Some could care less, as long as they get what they want
Some shun the thought of cheating
Some look for every possible way to cheat
Some had good family and parents who taught them well
Some grew up like weeds and never listened or were taught a thing
Word to your mama
As in every part of life, young to old, you are judged by the people you surround yourself with since they are who you inspire to be like.
<S>Kculon and the like

Coming from a base taking squad I got to say.. If we're trying to take a base and your trying to stop our troops from landing or making it to the ground, I'm Ho'in. I'll either try to kill or partially blind you if I can. It just takes to much time, effort and luck/skill to not try to do all i can to capture a base if you and your buddy's are set on stopping it from happening. <S> to you as well for giving it your best shot.
I see more disrespect and dishonor on 200 than anywhere else BTW and rarely subscribe to that channel.
