First thing this morning, I read Guppy/Dan's thread about Nit paranoia. Apparently the yammering from the leet mishunz crew was enough that it spoiled the night (no pun intended...at least I don't think it was). In consequence, he plans to stay clear of the Knight side to avoid irritating the irritatable.
Now, I've never met Dan, and I've rarely bumped into him in combat. But for as long as I've known of him, he's been nothing but a class act. It seems to me that if anything could sum up his attitude, it would be this: He knows what's really important in life, and it's not AH. Every time he talks about the game, he reminds people that it's all about relationships and having fun -- nothing else about it matters.
As you'd expect from someone with that kind of attitude, Dan seems to get along with just about everyone. (And seems to be comfortable ignoring those who just don't get what life's about.) Knowing what little I do about his character, when guys have gone off on Dan I pretty much know that the problem is with the other guy.
Which brings us to ROX and the missions. I think missions and cooperative activity are great stuff, especially for those who like the capture aspect of the game. Most of the time, air to air combat guys and capture people peacefully co-exist since their activities complemet each other. (A capture attempt attracts combat, which attracts fighter guys, who shoot down defenders and make the capture easier...etc) Only rarely do I remember seeing individuals who are so polarizing that they CREATE conflict between the styles of play. And I only remember one other player who drove entire squads to switch countries simply to avoid him and his single minded, all encompassing desire to win bases.
aStone/ xCephas.
Now I don't really think they're the same person. But they do unpleasantly share certain style characteristics, and those are unpleasant enough that I don't want to be around them. Bottom line for me is this: I like to play for fun, and to keep things fair for everyone, just like Dan and many others. If the lemmings on the nits don't want Dan -- then I don't want the lemmings. They can see what happens when they get their way, and all those who aren't for them become against them...I for one will fly only against them until they're willing to play nicely.

Great post Simaril and a big <S>.
Oh and anybody that pops off the mouth to Cork has to be a serious tool and just plain stupid.
You cant fix stupid so I'd just let go. Typicaly people who get worked up this much over a game are most likely pretty miserable in some manner and its just a matter of time before they implode. There's a fine line between competativeness and obession. I know.... been at both ends of the spectrum I'm afraid.
Anyway, take care and I'll try to avoid getting wacked by your KI :)

AStone had to retire because of medical reasons but he could rally players and yep at times drive everyone on all countries crazy lol. If Rox is flying only B26's and likes to dive bomb on towns ( his trade mark flying style ) then AStone may be back but as one of his former squadies I doubt it.

aStone/ xCephas.
You animal! How dare you besmirch the name of my favorite AH character. I've been in and out of this game several times since early Beta, and aStone/xCephas and the LCA squadron caught my attention and have kept me interested for a couple of years now. Stone's been away for several months (to the best of my knowledge), but AH is poorer for his absence. You may not have appreciated his attitude and his total focus on ticking off the Bish but he always kept things interesting!
BTW, the "animal" reference is an insider's joke. Only Cephas cohorts will understand.
-
And, BTW, Stone was quite distinctive on vox. If Rox makes you think you're on a mission with the Sopranos you just may be flying with Stone.
-
I think Stone is taking time off to lead the campain for Barack Obama in his area........he always was a bleeding heart liberal......ha.
-
lol he sounds like the type for obama.

take the politics to 200 :p

I'm sure that up close xCephas was a nice enough guy, but I had real problems with the way he treated his countrymen...and the way he treated fellow Rooks who didn't play his way as an enemy. He openly said "He who is not for me is against me" , talking about his TEAMMATES. He repeatedly singled out rook players, decided the rooks would be better off without them, and tried to get them to change countries. He picked fights with air-to-air guys on country channel. In short, he was the absolute opposite of "play the game for fun and have a good time."
Never could get him to see that chasing players away from rooks was counterproductive if he wanted the rooks to win. And, BTW, would be surprised if his absence was triggered by medical problems alone...since he disappeared immediately after his squad imploded.

"Only Sith deal in absolutes!"

oh ya, forgot about that guy and all his "interesting" pm's.

CREATE conflict between the styles of play.
I don't see ROX starting posts and bashing furballers on BB , but i wonder how many posts does it take to cover his name in dirt. He shows maturity not replaying .

If people would stop digging their own holes, maybe everyone else wouldn't be so willing to grab a shovel and help fill it in.

Apart from some real squeakers, he is currently the players showing least signs of maturity, whether in countrychannel, BBS or ingame behaviour in general.

Well, either maturity or embarrassment.
Take your pick. I already know which one I pick.

by the sounds of it he is far to busy dishing it out in the ma to reply here. also of note, this doesn't have anything to do with furballers per say. It is more about running around calling people cheaters and spies (completely unfounded i might add), then flinging insults. but hey, defend that behavior if you like.
-
It did start with flinging public insults, at Stang specificaly.

His 15 minutes has GOT to be over by now.

Can’t say I have ever run into the folks mentioned in the original post. With the exception of being 68ROX for 8 months, I have always been ROX, going back to 1995 on Air Warrior.

As long as there are loose cannons there will be a loose cannon alliance. The squad is doing quite well, actually.

ROX,
If you are flying as ROOK, consider sending me a PM.
Sounds like you guys and the LCA should be teaming up. ;)
BTW, whats all this talk about some Knight Alliance?
Never seen 'em in the game. Is this propaganda or is there
really such a ting?

Hi Mr. Delta! :salute
One of the whole ideas behind the Alliance is to get multiple different squads to work together. The vast majority of the squads in the Alliance stay exclusively knights. If me or my squad changed sides, I know for sure the integrity of the Alliance would be gone. It's taken quite a bit of organization, but it's so much fun--everytime we put a mission up, the slots fill up. As soon as we've achieved the objective...country text is alive with "lets do another one"
Knights are having fun again. The feedback we're getting is like when folks get off a rollercoaster ride--then get right back in line to do it again.
The reason you may not have heard of us is that for the last seven weeks we have primarily made the Bishops our pet project. You can see on these boards how that is being welcomed :rofl
A BIG :salute
And see you in the cyberskies.
It's all about having fun!

We've never had more than 24-26 people ever join an Alliance Mission...but if it feels like more than that, I appreciate the compliment.
Hey, It's our $15 bucks a month.

ROX
Cool ROX!
This could be fun! :aok
I am about 2 weeks away from finishing up a boatload of work I've been
doing setting up the infrastructure and support for something similar.
We used to have RJO (Rook Joint Operations) but that effort seems
to have faded into oblivion. Anyway, the idea is sound so I plan to
try and resuscitate it with the help of like-minded players.
I'll be sending invites to ROOK squadrons that I have identified and have
emails for then we'll see what happens. Hopefully there will be enough interest to
justify all the work I've put into it.
If squadron CO's prove interested, I plan to start things off with an
inaugural mammoth mission 'cause our coming out party has to be a biggun!... :D
...but that will have to wait a little while longer yet...still some work to do... :cry
Who knows, we may even bump into each others missions one night..now that
would be sumpthin!.
The greatest challenge in this game has to be organizing players but if
successful, the rewards are great and the fun factor is high! I am glad that
your efforts have met with success..even if you are our sworn and bitter enemy
(but you're lucky, we usually make the bish out pet project as well.) ;)
:salute ROX!
P.S. Remember, when they try to shame and ridicule you it just means
one thing: they fear you! :uhoh
P.P.S. Is any ROOK CO wants to assist in organizing this, please fire off
a PM in my direction. Thanks! :pray

I wish we had an arena "Furballers vs Toolsheders":
Imagine all the LCA, BOPs,Knights Alliance and other strat team players ,bashed here on the BB over the years ,bombing the "Furballistan" 24/7 in low lancs to give them real reason for whining on BB. After 2 days they would come out in french style ,with hands up and white flag begging for unconditional surrender .
-
Ghi,
While guys have always bashed each other's play styles, that has nothing to do with this. This is about somebody going nasty on one of the easiest going, most honorable players in the game -- and refusing to let up when people try to explain.
I've always felt that each play style is valid, and each works best alongside the other. Furballing vs Toolshedding is irrelevant here. Guppy kept saying, "Look the point is that everyone have fun the way they like to play..." but the idiots who thought every switcher was a spy wouldn't leave the 80th alone.
It's just plain wrong for anyone to hound another squad, or another player, into switching sides for relief. That's what happened to Guppy and his squad, when they simply came to nits to balance the player numbers.
-
Well, by the sounds of it, the bish have also been beaten into submission as there is nothing they can do to stop alliance missions. If you read the other long thread, you will learn that the only way bish could stop alliance attacks would be to not go over to the knights and assinate rox's character and spy. You would also learn that because of certain country switchers (furballers), the bish are easily defeated. So the only people who can stop there missions are the furballers, who he calls spies. It's all very confusing, but it seems bish strat squads are of little use to the bish war effort, as the alliance claims to take your bases at will.
I still don't see how this is anyway furball vs. strat argument. He is basically saying furballers are spies, and without country switching furballers on the bish side, the strat squads stand no chance (obviously by process of elimination).
-
Reading 96Delta and Rox' posts reminds me of that mall ninja link someone posted a while back. Going to see if I can find it.

I like it best when Corky is on another side because that's about the only time I can get a kill - a proxy if I'm close to his airfield when he's landing. :D
Seriously though, Corky & the 80th are great to fly with and against. Fun times either way. As for spying, I think they only spy on themselves. If you're on another country, just ask 'em where they are. They'll tell ya. Just be prepared for a fight. :)
