Do you think they went too far in their advertising?
-
I'm more offended people still drink that crap.

Thus the reason and need to advertise. ;)
At the risk of turning the thread into "what vodka tastes good"...what do you think of Grey Goose?
-
It's pretty good, my cousin got me a bottle of Level and Blue Berry Stolis and those both are great. I'm not much a Vodka drinker any more, Crown Reserve is my drink now.

If/When I drink vodka (usually special occasions) I like it straight up on the rocks, with a twist. GG is really smooth. Stoli is garabage. It became too commercialized and the taste changed in the mid-80's.

I've been to the Absolut plant. the product is made in a very professional, very modern facility. the earlier product that as produced was made in a more primitive fashion and the facility could not keep up with demand.
On my tour of the facility, we started out at the bottling of the product and moved in a reverse direction of production. just prior to bottling is the fermentation vat, a HUGE stainless steel tank with motors turning a big paddle for proper mixing and to prevent settling. After climbing up what seemed like 5 floors of steel stairwells, we came to the "secret" mixing room, which was elevated above the steel tank and connected to it by a clear glass pipe aprox. 2 feet in diameter, coming out of the floor. I could see what looked like unfiltered product flowing through to the tank.
outside the door to the mixing room there was pallet after pallet of potatoes and what seemed like a hundred people waiting to start their shift. As I stood outside the two large doorways, a red light began to flash and the doors opened and a flood of people came streaming out. I looked in and could see that the room was lined with a stainless basin that completey circled the room and was attached to the glass pipe.
These people were all potato peelers and crushers or so I thought. all at once they started to pee in the basin.
They were getting paid in potatos.

...can they even afford it there? :devil

ill take jack daniel's over any vodka any day

I've seen a lot more grey goose in fighter bars than absolut... After seeing the ad though, I think I'll make a point of quietly replacing any absolut I find with an alternative brand. It's not like it'll be any huge sacrifice since there are plenty of good and inexpensive alternatives.
Nothing like discarding well-off American customers to try to gain Mexican market share... :huh

Ahem...Back on topic, advertising reactions are one area where the consumer can actually make a difference. Those of you who are offended by the Absolut map should write them a letter and complain- and to be sure they can understand it give them a Spanish copy of your letter too.

Mohawk.
I like my vodka like I like my women... Cheap and nasty. (http://smilies.vidahost.com/ups/layla_phoenix/boobies.gif)

Offended? Naw.
This will go away as the end result is Absolut probably won't convince those drinking tequila to switch to vodka, let alone theirs.
Central and South Americans are for the most part pretty indifferent to Mexican history so this ad campaign is going to fail south of Mexico.
Now if Absolut actually had a premium tequila product then they might increase sales to the Mexican market.
This type of advertising would also be unnecessary.
Kind of like Golf fans buying Oldsmobiles because Tiger Woods was in their Ads.
Much ado about nothing. I think the negative reactions might be a bit overly sensitive.
I don't drink alcohol so I don't know the good brands. If I did drink, the ad wouldn't sway me one way or the other. The ad campaign will die eventually.

I only drink Belvedere. I've tried em all. Belvedere is the smoothest. GG is a notch below Stoli, from my experiences. Absolut is piss water.

Absolut has already apologized for the advertisement.
-
Imagine the uproar if the advertisement had a map showing Cuba the same color as the US and an American flag with a prominant 51st star.

Yeah, but I'll bet they didn't apologize in Spanish, broadcast over Mexican TV.
-
I don't see what the big deal is. The map is just the boundaries that existed prior to 1836. We took it from 'em fair and square, no harm in letting them dream of what might have been :)

The country of Panama didn't exist then. That was part of Columbia.

why would this cause an uproar?

Are Belvedere and Chopin made by the same company?

Are Mexicans actually offended, or just Americans?

Looks like a lot of people fell for the #5
