Walked outside this morning, and a large bird was sitting in a tree by my pond. When it took off, I could see that the tops of its wings had white speckles all over.

looks like some cross breeded owl-hawk. :rolleyes:

Looks like a Red Tailed Hawk or some similar type of Hawk.

Well, its a good sign to be seeing birds of prey. It means the local ecosystem is relatively healthy.
